EDD debit card delivery timeframe - still waiting after 10 days
Hi everyone, I just got approved for unemployment benefits last week (finally!) after waiting nearly a month for my claim to process. My EDD account shows that my first payment was issued 10 days ago, but I still haven't received my Money Network debit card in the mail. The payment status says 'paid' in the UI Online portal. Is this normal? How long did it take for your cards to arrive? I'm getting worried because I have rent due next week and was counting on these funds. Should I be calling EDD about this or just keep waiting?

It usually takes 7-10 business days for the Money Network card to arrive after your first payment is issued. The card comes separately from the payment notification. If it's been more than 10 business days (so about 2 weeks total), you should contact Money Network directly at 1-866-692-9374. They can tell you if the card was actually mailed and when. EDD doesn't handle the cards themselves.

•Thanks! It's been exactly 10 days including weekends, so maybe I'm just being impatient. I'll give it until Monday and then call Money Network if nothing arrives by then.

•3 weeks?! Ugh that's so frustrating. Did you end up calling them or did it just randomly show up one day?

THE WORST PART OF THE WHOLE EDD PROCESS!!! I swear they deliberately make the card take forever so they can hold onto our money longer. My first one took 12 days back in January and when I called they just gave me the runaround saying "it's in the mail" but wouldn't give me any tracking info. The whole system is designed to make us suffer!!!

•That's not actually how it works. EDD transfers the funds to Money Network immediately when they issue payment. The delay is with the card production and mailing, not EDD holding funds. Money Network has the money while your card is in transit.

Having had to deal with this twice now, here's what I can share: 1. First-time cards typically take 7-10 business days (so that's 2 weeks in real time) 2. If you just reactivated an old claim but lost your previous card, it can take 5-7 business days for a replacement 3. Money Network ships from their processing center in South Dakota, so that adds time depending on where in California you live If you're approaching day 14 overall, I'd recommend calling Money Network directly. They can verify if your card was mailed and even expedite a replacement if needed (though they might charge a fee for that). In the meantime, once you get your card, set up the direct deposit option in your Money Network account to avoid this issue for future payments!

•This is super helpful information, thank you! I didn't realize they ship from South Dakota, that explains the delay. I'm definitely going to set up direct deposit as soon as I get the card.

I had the same issue last month and got so frustrated with waiting. After trying to call EDD for THREE DAYS with no luck (kept getting the "we're experiencing high call volume" message), I found this service called Claimyr that got me through to an actual EDD rep in about 20 minutes. The rep was able to confirm my card had been mailed and gave me the exact date. Saved me so much stress! Their site is claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km - totally worth it instead of spending hours redialing.

One thing to note - make sure your address is correct in both your UI Online account AND your Money Network account (once you receive and activate your card). Sometimes people update one but not the other, which causes issues with replacement cards or other mail from EDD.

•That's a good point. I double-checked my UI Online account and the address is correct. I'll be sure to verify it matches when I set up the Money Network account too.

If you absolutely need the funds immediately and can't wait for the card, once your Money Network card arrives, you can set up direct deposit for future payments. The transfer from Money Network to your bank account typically takes 1-2 business days after that. For your current situation though, unfortunately you'll need to wait for that first card to arrive before you can access any funds or set up direct deposit.

Based on today's date, I'd give it until next Tuesday (which would be 14 calendar days/10 business days) before contacting Money Network. If you haven't received it by then, call them directly at 1-866-692-9374. They can verify if a card was mailed, when it was sent, and can issue a replacement if needed.

Just wanted to add that if you're really in a bind financially while waiting for the card, some local food banks and community assistance programs can help with emergency food/utility assistance. I know it doesn't solve the rent issue, but it might free up other money you have to cover rent until your EDD card arrives. Also, if you explain the situation to your landlord with documentation showing your payment was issued, some are understanding about EDD delays since it's such a common issue. Worth a shot if you have a decent relationship with them.

I went through this exact same situation about 6 months ago and it was so stressful! Mine ended up taking 13 days total, which felt like forever when you're counting on those funds. A few things that helped me: 1. Keep checking your mailbox daily - like others mentioned, it comes in a pretty plain envelope that's easy to miss 2. If you have informed delivery through USPS, keep an eye on that for any mail from "Money Network" 3. Don't panic if it hits the 2-week mark - that seems to be pretty normal based on what I've seen here The waiting is the worst part, but once you get that card and set up direct deposit, future payments go much smoother. Hang in there, it should arrive soon! And definitely call Money Network if you hit day 14 with no card.

•Thank you so much for sharing your experience! It's really reassuring to hear from someone who went through the exact same thing. I do have informed delivery set up so I'll keep checking that daily. 13 days is definitely within the range everyone's been mentioning, so I'll try to be patient a little longer. Really appreciate the encouragement - this whole process has been so stressful but knowing others have made it through helps a lot!

I would like to add that I received disability benefits I’m 2020 along with another coworker and we received our debit cards weeks in advance of receiving the electronic payment notices and award letters! Idk why it’s being sent after it paid but it’s not right at all since processing claims takes way longer now im 2025 smh

I'm actually going through this exact same situation right now! My first payment was issued 8 days ago and I'm anxiously checking the mail every day. Reading through all these responses is really helpful - sounds like 10-14 days is pretty normal, even though it feels like forever when you're waiting on those funds. I think I'll follow the advice here and wait until the 2-week mark before calling Money Network. It's frustrating that they don't provide any tracking or updates, but at least now I know what to expect. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences!

•I'm in the same boat as you! Just hit day 9 myself and checking the mailbox has become a daily ritual at this point. It's so nerve-wracking when you have bills coming up and you're just waiting on that plain envelope to show up. At least we know from everyone's experiences here that we're still within the normal timeframe. Fingers crossed both of our cards show up soon! The waiting game is definitely the hardest part of this whole process.

I'm currently on day 12 waiting for my EDD debit card and this thread has been a lifesaver! It's so reassuring to see that I'm not alone in this situation and that 10-14 days seems to be the normal range. I've been checking my mailbox obsessively and even signed up for USPS Informed Delivery after reading the suggestions here. The anxiety of waiting for funds when you have bills due is real, but knowing that others have successfully received their cards after similar wait times helps me stay patient. I'm planning to call Money Network on Monday if it doesn't arrive by then (which would be day 15). Thanks to everyone who shared their experiences and timelines - it really helps newcomers like me know what to expect!

•Day 12 is definitely still within the normal range based on what everyone's shared here! I'm actually a few days behind you - just hit day 6 myself and already feeling anxious about it. It's really helpful to see so many people confirming that 10-14 days is typical. The USPS Informed Delivery tip is genius, I'm going to sign up for that right now. Hopefully your card shows up this weekend or Monday before you even need to call! Keep us posted on how it goes - it helps those of us still waiting to hear about successful deliveries.

Reading everyone's experiences has really calmed my nerves - I was convinced something had gone wrong since I keep hearing horror stories about EDD. It's reassuring to know that 10-14 days is actually pretty standard, even though it feels like an eternity when you're counting on those funds. I've been religiously checking my mailbox and just set up USPS Informed Delivery yesterday after seeing how many people recommended it here. Planning to give it until early next week before calling Money Network, but feeling much more confident now that it will actually show up. •I'm on day 3 and already feeling anxious after reading all these timelines! It's both comforting and nerve-wracking to see that most people are waiting 10-14 days - comforting because it seems normal, but nerve-wracking because that feels like forever when you need the money. I just set up USPS Informed Delivery too after seeing everyone mention it. At least I know what to expect now and won't panic if it doesn't show up by day 7 or 8. This community is amazing for helping newcomers understand the process - thank you all for sharing your experiences!

It's so helpful to see everyone's timelines - definitely makes me feel better knowing that 10-14 days is the norm rather than something being wrong. Just set up USPS Informed Delivery after reading all these recommendations. The plain envelope tip is clutch too since I probably would have tossed it with the junk mail. This waiting period is brutal when you're used to direct deposit paychecks, but at least now I know what to expect timeline-wise. Thanks for sharing your experience and keeping the rest of us newbies calm during this process!
