EDD debit card timing after payment shows paid - how long to actually receive?

Finally got my first unemployment payment approved yesterday after waiting almost 3 weeks since filing my initial claim. My UI Online account shows 'paid' status for the weeks I certified, but I still haven't received any actual Money Network debit card in the mail. This is my first time on unemployment so I have no idea how long it typically takes after the payment shows as 'paid' before I'll actually have the card in hand. Anyone know the normal timeframe? I'm getting kinda worried because rent is due next week and I was counting on having access to these funds by then. Is there a way to check if the card has even been mailed yet?

Congrats on getting approved! The EDD debit card usually takes 7-10 business days to arrive after your first payment shows as paid in the system. If you go to the Money Network website, you can't really track it, but once you receive it, you'll set up your account there. Just be patient - it's frustrating but normal for there to be this gap between seeing the 'paid' status and actually having funds in hand.

Thank you! That's helpful to know. Do you remember if you got any kind of email notification when it was shipped, or does it just show up?

I had this same problem last year. The first card can take 7-14 calendar days to arrive after your first payment is processed. Important things to know: 1. The Money Network card is mailed from a facility in South Dakota, so factor in that mail time 2. You can call Money Network directly at 1-866-692-9374 to check if your card has been mailed 3. If it's been more than 10 business days, you should contact EDD to make sure they have your correct mailing address 4. Once you get the card, activate it immediately and set up online access so you can transfer funds to your bank account Tip: For future payments, they'll go directly to this same card, so keep it even after you're done with unemployment. I made the mistake of cutting mine up after I got a job, then had to wait for a new one when I had an adjustment payment months later.

This is super helpful info, thank you! I didn't know I could call Money Network directly. I'll wait a few more days and then try that if the card hasn't arrived.

anyone else think its RIDICULOUS they still use these dumb cards in 2025?? just direct deposit already EDD!! every other state does it!!

Actually, EDD does offer direct deposit now. You just need to set it up in your UI Online account under "Payment Preferences" once you get your card and create your Money Network account. It wasn't available before but they finally added the option last year.

oh wow didnt know that!! thanks for the info. still annoying u have to wait for stupid card first tho

If you're desperate to reach EDD to check on your card status, try using Claimyr. It helped me get through to an actual EDD rep when I couldn't get my card for over 3 weeks (turned out they had my old address). The service connects you with an EDD rep usually within an hour instead of spending days calling and getting the "too many callers" message. Their website is claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km But honestly, if it's only been a day or two since your payment went to paid status, I'd wait at least 5-7 business days before getting too worried.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll definitely keep this in mind if my card doesn't show up in the next week or so. Good to have options if I need to talk to someone about it.

Does anyone know if there's a way to track these cards? My payment has been stuck at "paid" for 2 weeks but still no card. Starting to wonder if it got lost in the mail or stolen.

There's no tracking system for the initial card, unfortunately. But after 10 business days, you should definitely call Money Network at 1-866-692-9374 to report a potentially lost card. They can tell you if it was mailed and when, and can issue a replacement if needed.

thanks, i'll call them tomorrow. this whole system is so stressful.

My payment history shows Paid but my claim balance hasn't gone down. Does that mean they haven't actually sent the money to the card yet? So confused by all this.

0 coins

That's normal! The claim balance updates a little while after the payment shows as paid. The two systems don't always sync immediately. If it shows 'paid' in your payment history, the money has been sent to be loaded onto your card.

Quick update for everyone in this thread - after you get your card, I highly recommend setting up direct deposit from your Money Network account to your regular bank account. It's much faster for future payments. You'll still need the card initially, but after that, you can have funds automatically moved to your regular bank account within 1-2 days of certification.

Oh that's good to know! I'll definitely set that up once I get my card. Hopefully that will make things smoother for future payments.

Just wanted to share my recent experience to help ease your worry! I was in the exact same situation about 6 months ago - first time filing, payment showed "paid" and then the anxious waiting game began. My card arrived exactly 8 business days after the payment status changed to paid. One thing that really helped my anxiety was checking my mailbox at the same time every day (around 2pm when my mail usually comes) instead of obsessively checking multiple times. The card comes in a plain white envelope from "EPPiCard Customer Service" so don't throw it away thinking it's junk mail! Also, once you do get it, make sure to call the activation number immediately - I waited a day and then panicked thinking something was wrong when really I just needed to activate it first. You've got this! The waiting is the hardest part but it sounds like you're through the worst of it with getting approved.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience! This is exactly what I needed to hear. I've been checking my mailbox like 3 times a day which is probably making me more anxious. I'll try your approach of checking once at a consistent time. And good tip about the plain envelope - I definitely would have been suspicious of that! Really appreciate you taking the time to help calm my nerves.

I'm going through this exact same situation right now! My payment just switched to "paid" status 3 days ago and I've been anxiously checking the mail every day. Reading through all these responses is really reassuring - it sounds like 7-10 business days is pretty standard. I had no idea you could call Money Network directly to check if it's been mailed, that's super helpful! @Miguel Ramos thanks for that tip about keeping the card even after you're done with unemployment, I definitely would have made that same mistake. This whole process is so stressful when you're relying on these funds, but it's good to know the waiting is normal and the card will eventually show up.

I'm in the same boat as you and the original poster! My payment switched to "paid" yesterday and I'm already getting impatient. It's so reassuring to read everyone's experiences here - sounds like we just need to be patient for that 7-10 business day window. I never would have thought to call Money Network directly either, that's such a useful tip! The stress of waiting when you need these funds is real, but at least we know we're not alone in this process. Fingers crossed both our cards arrive soon!

Just wanted to add another data point for everyone waiting! I went through this same anxiety-inducing process about 8 months ago. My card took exactly 9 business days to arrive after the payment showed "paid" - right in that typical 7-10 day window everyone mentioned. One thing I learned that might help: if you have informed delivery set up with USPS, the EDD card will show up in your daily email preview as "EPPiCard Customer Service" like @Amara Oluwaseyi mentioned. That gave me a heads up it was coming that day and saved me from the constant mailbox checking! Also, once you get your card, I'd recommend immediately transferring most of the funds to your regular bank account if possible. I left money sitting on the Money Network card for weeks and got hit with some monthly maintenance fees I wasn't expecting. The sooner you can get set up with direct deposit for future payments, the better. Hang in there - the waiting is definitely the worst part but you're almost through it!

This is such helpful advice! I had no idea about the USPS informed delivery feature - I'm definitely going to sign up for that right now. That would save so much anxiety knowing it's coming that day instead of constantly wondering. And thank you for the warning about the maintenance fees on the Money Network card! I would have definitely left money sitting on there without thinking about it. Really appreciate everyone sharing their experiences here - it's making this whole waiting process so much less stressful knowing what to expect and having these practical tips.

I'm currently going through this exact same situation! My payment just switched to "paid" status 2 days ago and I've been refreshing my UI Online account and checking the mail obsessively. Reading through everyone's experiences here is so reassuring - it sounds like that 7-10 business day window is pretty standard across the board. I had no idea about being able to call Money Network directly to check on shipping status, or about the USPS informed delivery feature. Those are game-changing tips! It's also really helpful to know about setting up direct deposit once I get the card to avoid this waiting anxiety for future payments. The stress of needing these funds while waiting for a piece of plastic to arrive in the mail is real, but knowing this is totally normal helps a lot. Thanks to everyone for sharing your timelines and experiences - this community is amazing for helping navigate all this EDD confusion!

I'm literally in the exact same boat right now! Just had my payment switch to "paid" yesterday and I've been doing that same obsessive checking routine. It's so comforting to read everyone's experiences and realize this waiting period is completely normal. I signed up for USPS informed delivery right after reading @Tyrone Johnson s'comment - such a smart tip! Now I won t'have to stress about checking the mailbox multiple times a day. Also really glad to know about those Money Network maintenance fees ahead of time. This thread has been a lifesaver for managing my anxiety about the whole process. Here s'hoping both our cards arrive on the earlier side of that 7-10 day window!

I'm going through this exact same waiting game right now! My payment switched to "paid" status 4 days ago and I've been anxiously checking the mail every single day. Reading through everyone's experiences here has been incredibly helpful - it's so reassuring to know that 7-10 business days is the standard timeframe and that this anxiety is totally normal when you're waiting for funds you desperately need. I had no idea about so many of these tips! Definitely signing up for USPS informed delivery right after posting this, and I'll keep that Money Network phone number handy (1-866-692-9374) in case I need to check on shipping status. Also really appreciate the heads up about the maintenance fees and setting up direct deposit once the card arrives - would have definitely made those mistakes without the warnings from this community. The stress of seeing "paid" but not having actual access to the money is so real, especially when bills are due. But knowing this is just part of the process and that the card WILL eventually arrive is helping me stay (somewhat) patient. Thanks to everyone for sharing your timelines and experiences - this thread is exactly what I needed to find today!

I'm going through the exact same thing right now too! My payment just switched to "paid" this morning and I'm already feeling that familiar anxiety about when the card will actually show up. It's so helpful to see everyone's experiences laid out like this - makes me feel way less alone in this stressful waiting period. I'm definitely going to sign up for that USPS informed delivery service right now, and I bookmarked the Money Network number just in case. The tip about those maintenance fees is huge too - I would have absolutely left money sitting on there without thinking about it. It's crazy how seeing "paid" should feel like relief but instead just starts a whole new type of waiting anxiety! At least now I know 7-10 business days is normal and I'm not going crazy checking my mailbox constantly.

I'm going through this exact same waiting period right now! My payment switched to "paid" 6 days ago and I've been anxiously checking my mailbox every single day.
