EDD debit card arrival time after first payment shows 'Paid' status?
I just got my first unemployment payment to show 'Paid' in the UI Online portal yesterday! Super relieved but also getting anxious because I haven't received the Money Network debit card yet. My rent is due next week and I'm cutting it really close. Does anyone know how long it usually takes for the card to arrive after your claim status changes to 'Paid'? Is there a way to track the card or expedite shipping? I'm in the San Bernardino area if that makes any difference for mail delivery times.

•Thanks for the info! Ugh, 7-10 business days is cutting it super close for me. Do you know if there's any way to check if it's been mailed yet?

The EDD uses Bank of America to issue their debit cards through Money Network, and it typically takes 7-10 business days from when your payment first shows as 'Paid' in the system. You can call Money Network directly at 1-866-692-9374 to check on the status of your card or request expedited delivery (though they may charge a fee). Also, once you've received your card, I recommend setting up direct deposit to your personal bank account for faster access to future payments. You can do this through your UI Online account under 'Payment Methods.

•This is super helpful, thank you! I'll call that number tomorrow morning. And yes, I definitely plan to set up direct deposit as soon as I get the card!

When I was waiting for my card, I found that you can actually check if money is on the card before it arrives by creating a Money Network account online. Go to their website, register with your info (SSN, DOB, etc.), and you can see if your payment has been loaded. This won't make the card arrive any faster, but at least you'll know your money is there. If you really need funds immediately, you might want to try contacting an EDD representative to see if they can help expedite your card. I had success using Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to an actual human at EDD when I couldn't get past the busy signals. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km. The rep I spoke with was able to note my account for urgent card delivery.

•I tried creating a Money Network account before my card arrived and it wouldn't let me - said I needed info from the physical card first. Did they change the system? This was back in November though, maybe its different now.

•Oh no, 12 days would definitely put me past my rent due date 😬 Did calling them actually help at all or just give you the runaround?

The EDD system is DELIBERATELY slow with these cards! They make interest on YOUR money while you wait. I had to wait 14 DAYS for my card while they told me "7-10 business days" EVERY SINGLE TIME I called. Then when it finally arrived, the activation system was down for maintenance!!! It's all by design to make you suffer and make them money. Welcome to the broken system!!!

•While the wait is frustrating, I don't think there's evidence that EDD deliberately delays cards. The timeline is largely dependent on Bank of America/Money Network's processing and USPS delivery times. The 7-10 business day estimate is standard across most financial institutions for new card issuance.

Just a heads up based on my experience - when my card finally arrived, I had trouble activating it because I entered my ZIP code wrong (I had moved recently). If that happens to you, make sure the address they have on file matches exactly what you put in UI Online. Took me an extra day of stress to figure that out!

•That's good to know! I haven't moved recently but I'll double-check my address in the system to make sure everything matches exactly.

u can also go to any B of A branch with ur id once the moneys on ur account and they can give u cash. did that once when i was desperate before my card came

•This is NOT true anymore! B of A no longer handles EDD cards as of 2022, it's all Money Network now. They switched the whole system and B of A branches can't help with EDD cards at all now. I found out the hard way.

Just wanted to follow up - once you do get your card, remember to create your Money Network account right away. You can set up alerts for deposits, check your balance, and set up direct deposit to your personal bank. This will make future payments much faster than waiting for the debit card transactions.

•Will do, thanks! I've already got my bank info ready to set up direct deposit as soon as I get access.

•Yes! It finally arrived yesterday - took exactly 8 business days. Activated it right away and already set up direct deposit for future payments. Hang in there!

For anyone still waiting on their card, I found that calling Money Network at 1-866-692-9374 around 8 AM when they first open gets you through faster than calling later in the day. The rep was able to confirm my card had been mailed and gave me a general timeframe. Also, if you're really desperate for cash before the card arrives, some credit unions will do emergency loans against pending unemployment benefits - worth checking with your local CU if you're a member!

•This is really helpful advice! I wish I had known about calling early in the morning when I was waiting for my card. The credit union tip is brilliant too - I never would have thought to ask about emergency loans against pending benefits. Definitely keeping this in mind for future reference or to share with others in similar situations.

I had the exact same anxiety when waiting for my card! Mine took 9 business days to arrive in Orange County, so San Bernardino should be similar timing. One thing that helped me was calling my landlord to explain the situation - most are understanding about unemployment delays, especially if you can show them your "Paid" status screenshot. You might be able to get a few extra days grace period. Also, once you get the card, you can immediately withdraw cash at any MoneyPass ATM without fees (there's a locator on the Money Network website). The waiting is the worst part, but you're almost there!

•That's such good advice about talking to your landlord! I was so stressed about being late on rent that I didn't even think to just explain the situation. Most landlords have probably dealt with unemployment payment delays before, especially during tough times. The MoneyPass ATM tip is really useful too - I'll definitely look up locations near me so I know where to go once the card arrives. Thanks for the reassurance that 9 days in OC means I should get mine soon in San Bernardino!

Hey Diego! I just went through this same situation last month. My card took exactly 10 business days to arrive in Riverside, so you should be getting yours very soon since you're nearby in San Bernardino. One thing that really helped ease my anxiety was downloading the Money Network mobile app once my payment showed "Paid" - even though I couldn't access my account without the physical card, I could at least see the app was legitimate and read through all the features I'd have once activated. Also, definitely call your landlord ASAP to explain the situation. I was transparent with mine, showed them my UI Online screenshot of the "Paid" status, and they gave me a 5-day grace period without any late fees. Most property managers understand unemployment payment delays. You're so close to getting this resolved!

•Thanks so much for sharing your experience! It's really reassuring to hear from someone in the Riverside area who just went through this. 10 days puts me right at the edge of my rent deadline, but knowing it's coming soon helps a lot. I love the idea of downloading the Money Network app now just to familiarize myself with it - that's such a smart way to feel more prepared and less anxious while waiting. And you're absolutely right about calling my landlord. I've been putting it off because I was embarrassed, but showing them the "Paid" screenshot is a great way to prove it's just a processing delay, not that I can't pay. Really appreciate the encouragement!

I'm in a similar situation right now - my payment just switched to "Paid" status three days ago and I'm anxiously waiting for the card too! Reading through everyone's experiences here is really helpful. It sounds like 7-10 business days is pretty standard, which puts me right around the same timeline as you Diego. I'm also planning to call Money Network tomorrow morning early like Zainab suggested. Has anyone had luck with asking EDD directly if they can note your account for urgent delivery? I'm wondering if that actually speeds things up or if it's just something they say to get you off the phone. Either way, it's good to know we're not alone in this waiting game!

•I'm in the exact same boat as you! My payment just switched to "Paid" yesterday and I'm already stress-checking the mailbox twice a day 😅 From what I've read in this thread, it seems like noting your account for urgent delivery might help, but it's hard to tell if it actually speeds things up or just makes us feel like we're doing something. I'm definitely going to try calling Money Network early tomorrow too - seems like that 8 AM timing tip could make all the difference in actually getting through to someone. At least we know the money is coming, even if the waiting is brutal!

I went through this exact same stress last year! My card took 9 business days to arrive in Pomona, so being in San Bernardino you should expect similar timing. One thing that really helped me was setting up a Money Network account online as soon as my payment hit "Paid" status - you can actually check if your funds are available even before the physical card arrives (just use your SSN and the info from your EDD account). This won't speed up delivery but at least you'll know your money is safely loaded and waiting for you. Also, don't be afraid to explain the situation to your landlord - most understand unemployment payment delays and may work with you on timing. The waiting is absolutely the worst part, but you're almost there! Once you get it, definitely set up direct deposit immediately so you never have to go through this card waiting anxiety again.
