EDD Money Network card never arrived after first certification - what do I do?

Finally got my claim approved and was able to certify for the first time last week (after dealing with ID.me issues for almost 3 months 😭). My payment status shows 'paid' in the EDD portal, but I still haven't received my Money Network debit card in the mail. This is my first time on unemployment so I don't have a previous card to use. The EDD website says it can take 7-10 business days, but I'm getting anxious since I really need access to these funds. Is this normal? Do I need to call someone to check on my card status? Anyone know how to speed this up?

This is totally normal and happens to a lot of first-time claimants. The Money Network cards typically take 7-10 business days AFTER your first payment is processed, not from when you certify. The EDD system has to process your certification, move it to 'paid' status, then notify Money Network to issue the card. So your card is probably just being processed and mailed out now. If you don't receive anything by next Friday, call the Money Network customer service at 1-866-692-9374 (not EDD). They're much easier to reach than EDD and can tell you if your card has been mailed or if there's an issue. They can also expedite a replacement if needed.

Omg thank you!!! I was starting to freak out. My account switched to 'paid' on Tuesday, so I guess I should wait until at least next Thursday before I start worrying too much. I didn't realize I need to contact Money Network directly instead of EDD. That's super helpful!

THEY NEVER TOLD ME THEY WERE SENDING A CARD AT ALL!! I waited for DIRECT DEPOSIT for 2 weeks before I realized I needed this stupid card thing. The EDD is such a disaster. My card finally showed up in some plain envelope that looked like junk mail - I almost threw it away!!! Make sure you check ALL your mail carefully. And once you get it, set up direct deposit immediately so you never have to deal with this again.

This is good advice. The Money Network cards do come in very plain white envelopes that don't say EDD anywhere on the outside - it's a security measure but confuses a lot of people. They're sent from Money Network in Indiana, not from California EDD.

If you need to reach EDD directly to check on your card status, I recommend using Claimyr to get through to an agent. I was in your exact situation last month and spent days trying to reach someone at EDD with no luck. I found this service at claimyr.com that gets you through to an EDD rep without waiting for hours. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km The EDD agent I spoke to was able to verify my card was being processed and gave me the exact date to expect it. Saved me a ton of stress!

Thanks for the tip! I'm going to wait a few more days first based on what everyone is saying, but if it doesn't show up I'll definitely check out that service. I've tried calling EDD twice already and couldn't get through.

Oh shoot, I didn't even think of that. I moved 6 months ago but I'm pretty sure I used my current address when I applied. Let me double check my profile right now...

Just checked and my current address is correct in the system. So at least that's not the issue!

Here's a complete rundown of the Money Network card timeline and process: 1. Once your first certification shows 'paid' in UI Online, EDD has transmitted your payment information to Money Network (typically 1-2 business days after certification) 2. Money Network then processes your card issuance (1-3 business days) 3. They mail the card via regular USPS mail (3-5 business days typically) So in total, it's usually 5-10 business days from 'paid' status to receiving your card. If it's been more than 10 business days since your payment showed 'paid,' then: 1. First call Money Network directly at 1-866-692-9374 to verify card status 2. If they confirm it was mailed over 7 days ago, request a replacement (they can expedite for delivery in 3 business days) 3. Only contact EDD if Money Network says they haven't received your information yet When you do get your card, I recommend setting up direct deposit to your bank account through the Money Network website or app to avoid future delays.

Thank you for such detailed information! This is incredibly helpful. I'm on business day 3 since my status changed to 'paid' so it sounds like I should continue to be patient. I'll definitely set up direct deposit as soon as I get the card so I don't have to worry about this in the future.

Did you check your informed delivery on USPS if you have that set up? Sometimes you can see when it's coming in the mail that way. Also just want to warn you to activate the card THE MOMENT you get it. My roommate waited a couple days and somehow her card got locked and it was a whole other headache.

I don't have informed delivery set up... maybe I should do that! And thanks for the tip about activating right away. I'll definitely do that the second I get it in the mail.

Quick update based on some of the other comments - the Money Network cards have very little branding. The envelope is plain white with an Indianapolis, IN return address. The card itself will say "California Employment Development Department" on it, but the envelope won't mention EDD at all. Many people miss it thinking it's junk mail. Also, once you get it, I'd recommend downloading the Money Network app. It's much easier to manage your funds, check balances, and set up direct deposit through the app than through their website.

This is so helpful! I'll keep an eye out for mail from Indianapolis. And I didn't know they had an app - definitely downloading that when my card arrives. Thanks again for all your help!
