EDD claim approved but no Money Network card received - do I need to call?
Just got my EDD claim approved after a month-long wait (finally!!). The status changed from pending to paid three days ago, but I haven't received any Money Network debit card in the mail. This is my first time on unemployment and I'm not sure if I'm supposed to actively request the card or if they automatically mail it once you're approved? The EDD website is confusing me because it says payments were issued but I have no way to access them. Does anyone know if I need to call them to request the card or will they just send it automatically? How long does it typically take to arrive after approval?

•3 weeks?! Ugh, I was hoping to pay rent with this money next week. Is there any way to speed it up?

They will automatically send you a Money Network card once your first payment is processed. You don't need to call to request one initially. However, the shipping can take 7-10 business days (sometimes longer with current processing times). If it's been more than 10 business days since your first payment was issued, then you should contact EDD to check on the status or request a replacement. When you log into UI Online, you should be able to see the date your payment was issued - that's when the card processing began.

•Thank you! That's helpful. My payment was issued on Monday, so I guess I just need to be patient for a few more days. I appreciate the clear explanation.

The same thing happened to me and I spent THREE WEEKS trying to call EDD to find out where my card was!!! Called hundreds of times and couldn't get through. They should seriously tell people upfront how long this takes. I was panicking because I had $2,400 sitting in an account I couldn't access while bills were piling up!!!

Just to add some clarity - Money Network (the company that handles EDD debit cards) automatically sends the card once EDD notifies them of your first payment approval. You don't need to request it initially. However, if you need to EXPEDITE shipping, you CAN call Money Network directly at 1-866-692-9374 (not EDD). They can rush a card to you for a fee. For future payments, I'd recommend setting up direct deposit in your UI Online account once you get your card. That way you won't have to wait for funds to hit the card.

•I didn't know I could set up direct deposit! Definitely doing that once my card arrives. And thanks for the Money Network number - that's super helpful if it doesn't come soon.

When I got approved last year my card took forever too and then my neighbor accidentally got my mail. Make sure you're checking with neighbors or anyone who might have grabbed your mail! The envelope is plain white and doesn't look important at all!

•This is actually a really good point. Mine came in very generic envelope that looked like junk mail. I almost threw it away. It won't say "EDD" or anything obvious on the outside.

I was in the same situation last month and got so frustrated trying to reach EDD about my card. After trying for days with no luck, I found this service called Claimyr that got me through to an EDD rep in about 20 minutes. Totally worth it because I found out my card had been sent to my old address even though I updated it online. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km and their website is claimyr.com if you end up needing to actually speak with someone at EDD about your card.

•Does that actually work?? I tried calling over 50 times one day and kept getting the "too many callers" message. So infuriating.

•It worked for me! The system basically keeps dialing for you until it gets through, then calls you when there's an agent. Saved me from having to manually redial all day.

•FOR REAL!!! It's like they're still using technology from 1995! How hard is it to just send a text message when your card ships??

My sister works at a bank and she said something about how the cards are actually processed by Money Network not EDD directly which is why there's always delays but idk if that's true or not but anyway I remember my card came about 2 weeks after my first payment it was so stressful

•Your sister is correct. Money Network (managed by Fiserv) is the financial institution that handles the debit cards for EDD. They process and mail the cards after receiving authorization from EDD. This handoff between two separate systems is part of why there's often a delay.

Thank you everyone for all the helpful replies! I'm feeling less anxious now knowing this is normal. I'll wait another week before trying to contact anyone about it. And I'll definitely set up direct deposit once I get the card to avoid this issue with future payments. I'll also check with my neighbors and make sure I'm watching for a plain envelope that could look like junk mail. Really appreciate all the advice!
