Money Network Card not arrived after first EDD payment - should I keep waiting?

Just got my first unemployment payment processed today (yay!) but I'm confused about the Money Network card situation. I haven't received the card in the mail yet, so I'm not sure how to actually access my funds. Do they typically send the card after your first payment gets issued? I tried calling the Money Network customer service line, but their automated system seems designed for people who already have their cards and are having issues with them. I couldn't find an option for 'where the heck is my card?' Should I be proactive and call EDD directly about this, or is there a standard waiting period I should expect? Anyone know the typical timeline for card delivery after first payment?

The Money Network card is usually mailed automatically after your first payment is processed, but it can take 7-10 business days to arrive. They don't actually wait for a payment to be approved before sending the card - the system is supposed to mail it shortly after your claim is initially set up, so it's a bit concerning that you haven't received it yet if your payment was already processed. How long ago did you first file your claim?

I filed my claim about 3 weeks ago. So maybe the card is already on its way? I'm just anxious because rent is due next week and I really need access to these funds ASAP.

Thanks, that's somewhat reassuring. Did yours just show up without any tracking info or notification?

You should definitely call EDD right away. This happened to me last year - my first payment was issued but no card arrived after 2 weeks. Turns out they had the wrong mailing address in the system! The EDD rep was able to verify my correct address and expedite a new card to me. Don't wait on this because if the card was sent to the wrong address, someone could potentially access your funds. The problem is actually getting through to EDD on the phone. I spent 3 days trying before I found Claimyr (claimyr.com) which connected me to an EDD rep in about 20 minutes. They have a demo video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km Definitely worth it to resolve this quickly since you mentioned rent is coming up soon.

Oh that's concerning! I did update my address recently, so I'm worried there might be a mix-up. I'll check out that service - getting through to EDD has been impossible so far.

DONT BOTHER CALLING EDD!!! They will just tell you to call Money Network, and Money Network will tell you to call EDD. The most FRUSTRATING loop ever!!! I went through this exact same thing in February. The secret is to call Money Network and when the automated system asks for your card number (which you don't have), press 0 repeatedly until it connects you to a human. Then explain you're waiting for your first card. They can tell you if it was mailed and when.

That's a great tip! I didn't think about just pressing 0 to bypass the system. I'll try that tomorrow morning.

You should consider calling EDD directly about your stuck claim. If it's been 5+ weeks, something might be holding it up that requires intervention.

Just an FYI - I was in the same boat last month. After my first payment was processed, I waited about 9 business days and the Money Network card arrived. One important thing to note: the envelope is VERY plain and looks like junk mail. It comes in a white envelope with just a PO Box return address from South Dakota. I almost threw mine away! So check your mail carefully. Also, while you're waiting, you can set up direct deposit for future payments through UI Online. That way, after you get and activate this first card, you can transfer the funds to your bank and have all future payments go directly to your account without dealing with the Money Network card.

Thanks for the heads up about the envelope! I definitely would've expected something more official-looking or at least clearly marked. I'll keep an eye out and set up direct deposit as soon as possible.

when i certifyed for my benifits my first time I got the payment in like 2 days but the card took another 8 days after that. super annoying but i guess thats what happens when they use a 3rd party for payments lol. just wait a bit longer.

That's because the PAYMENT and the CARD are completely different systems!!! EDD handles the payment approval but Money Network handles the card distribution. That's why it's such a mess when something goes wrong - neither one wants to take responsibility!!

Update us when you get it! For anyone else reading this thread in the future, here's what you need to know about Money Network cards: 1. Cards are typically mailed 7-10 business days after claim setup (not after payment) 2. You can check card status by calling Money Network at 866-320-8699 (press 0 repeatedly to reach a rep) 3. If it's been more than 10 business days, contact both EDD and Money Network 4. Set up direct deposit for future payments to avoid card delays 5. The envelope is very plain and easy to miss in your mail Also worth noting: if you need a replacement card, it can take 7-10 days unless you pay for expedited shipping.

Will do! I tried the tip about pressing 0 and managed to speak to someone at Money Network. They confirmed my card was mailed 4 days ago and should arrive by the end of this week. What a relief! Thanks everyone for your help and advice.
