Money Network card delivery timeline & transfer options after EDD payment approval

Finally got my unemployment payments approved yesterday after filing on March 13th. The system shows 'paid' status for the weeks I just certified, but I still don't have a Money Network card to access the funds! I served my first week as excessive earnings (had some leftover vacation pay), then had a waiting period week, and now my claim is active. Here's my confusion: 1. How long typically before the Money Network card arrives in the mail? 2. I called Money Network customer service and they said I'm not in their system yet?? 3. Once I get the card, how many days does it take to transfer funds to my personal bank account? 4. Is it safer/faster to request paper checks instead of using the card? 5. If I certify on Sunday and request a check, when should I expect it in the mail? 6. Random question but what bank issues the EDD checks anyway? I'm getting anxious because I've got bills due next week and need to know when I'll actually have access to this money. Any insight from folks who've recently been through this?

The Money Network card usually takes 7-10 business days to arrive after your first payment is processed. Since your payment just went through yesterday, I'd expect the card around the first week of April. Don't worry about Money Network not having you in their system yet - there's often a 1-2 day delay between EDD approving payment and Money Network receiving your info to create the card account. Once you get the card, transfers to your bank account typically take 2-3 business days. The card is generally the fastest option vs paper checks. If you need funds urgently, you can actually call Money Network once your card is in their system (try again tomorrow) and request expedited delivery of your card for a fee (around $10-15).

Thanks for the timeline! That helps a lot. Do you know if there's any way to check if Money Network has received my info yet without calling them again? Their phone system is brutal to navigate.

Ugggh the inconsistency is what makes this so stressful! Did you get any kind of email notification when they shipped the card?

I requested paper checks instead of the card because I had my identity stolen a few years ago and I'm paranoid about cards. The checks came about 4-5 days after certification. They're drawn on Bank of America (they handle the payment processing for EDD). One thing to note - if you switch to paper checks now, it might delay your current payment while they process the change. So if you need money ASAP, stick with the card for now and you can change your preference later. Also be aware that BofA and Money Network are different systems. The old unemployment used BofA cards, but since 2023 they use Money Network. So if you had unemployment before that, that's why you saw money in BofA.

Freya Larsen

•

That explains why I was confused about the BofA account! I had a claim during covid and it went to that card. So they switched to Money Network completely? No wonder I couldn't find any new deposits in my old account.

THE WHOLE SYSTEM IS A JOKE!!! I waited almost THREE WEEKS for my Money Network card and when it finally came, it was impossible to activate! Their website kept crashing and when I finally got through on the phone after TWO HOURS on hold, they said my card was flagged for "security reasons" and I had to verify my identity AGAIN even though I already did the ID.me verification with EDD!!!! Just be prepared for a nightmare. Print screenshots of everything. Document every call. The left hand doesn't know what the right is doing over there.

same thing happened to my nephew! the verification thing is ridiculous, he had to send photos of his drivers license 3 different times before they would activate his card

To answer your question about checking if you're in Money Network's system without calling - unfortunately there isn't a way to check online before you have the card. Their online account creation requires the actual card number. But you can try calling EDD directly to confirm they've transmitted your payment info to Money Network. If you can get through to a rep, they can sometimes see on their end if the transfer of information has occurred.

If you need to reach EDD quickly about this, try using Claimyr (claimyr.com). I was in a similar situation last month - needed to find out why my payments were delayed and couldn't get through on the regular line. Claimyr connected me to an EDD rep in about 15 minutes when I'd been trying for days on my own. They have a video demo of how it works here: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km The EDD rep was able to confirm my payment had been sent to Money Network and gave me the exact date my card was mailed out. Saved me a ton of stress.

That's really helpful, thank you! I'm going to check that out because waiting around with no information is making me anxious. Did the EDD rep have any ability to expedite the card delivery when you called?

I believe u can set up direct deposit after u get ur card so u dont need to transfer money manually each time. That's what I did and now my bi-weekly payments go straight to my checking acct without me having to do anything. Took like 2 days to set up after I activated my card. U should double check this on the EDD site tho cause they change things all the time lol

•

This is correct. Once you activate your Money Network card, you can log into the Money Network account portal and set up direct deposit to your bank account. For future payments, you can choose to have them automatically transferred to your bank instead of loaded onto the card. One important note: the first payment will always go to the card, then you can set up the automatic transfers for subsequent payments. And yes, the direct deposit setup typically takes 1-3 business days to verify and activate.

My wife had the same issue last month waiting for a Money Network card. Took 9 business days to arrive. Not sure about the checks, but when we finally got the card set up, transfers to our bank took 2 business days exactly both times we did it. One weird thing - the envelope with the card looks like junk mail. Very plain with not much indication it's important. Almost threw it away by accident!

Oh wow, thanks for the heads up about the envelope! I'll be sure to check ALL my mail carefully. 9 business days sounds about right based on what others are saying too.

i think my brother wated like a week and a half for his card i remember him complaining about it lol. but once he got it he said the money transfers were pretty fast like 2 days or something

Just wanted to add one more thing - if your need for funds is truly urgent (rent due, utilities about to be shut off, etc.), you can request an emergency payment at an EDD office in person. You'd need to explain your hardship situation, but they do have provisions for people who are in dire financial circumstances and can't wait for the card. You would need to bring multiple forms of ID and your claim paperwork. This is a last resort option, but it does exist if you're in a really tight spot.

I didn't know that was even an option! I should be okay for another week, but if the card doesn't show up by then, I might have to consider this. Do you happen to know if I need an appointment for the in-person EDD office visit?

0 coins

Omar Hassan

•

Yes, you generally need an appointment for in-person services at EDD offices. You can schedule one through the UI Online portal in your account, or by calling the EDD appointment line. Some offices do accept walk-ins, but the wait can be extremely long without an appointment. Before going through all that trouble though, I'd recommend trying to reach an EDD representative by phone first to confirm if your Money Network card has been issued yet and get an estimated delivery date.

I went through this exact same situation about 6 weeks ago! My timeline was pretty similar to what others are saying - card took about 8 business days to arrive after my first payment showed as "paid" in the system. One tip that really helped me: I signed up for USPS Informed Delivery (it's free) so I could see images of all mail coming to my address each day. That way I knew exactly when to expect the Money Network envelope and didn't have to stress about missing it. Also, once you do get your card, make sure to activate it right away and set up that direct deposit option for future payments like others mentioned. The whole process becomes much smoother after that first payment hurdle. Hang in there - I know the waiting is stressful when you have bills due, but based on your timeline you should have access to your funds by early next week!

I'm going through the exact same thing right now! Filed my claim a few weeks ago and just got my first payment approved yesterday. The waiting is so nerve-wracking when you're counting on this money for rent and bills. From what I've been reading online, it sounds like the Money Network card delivery is pretty inconsistent - some people get it in 5 days, others wait 2+ weeks. I called Money Network this morning and they told me the same thing about not being in their system yet, which is frustrating but apparently normal. One thing I learned is that you can actually use the Money Network card at ATMs to get cash as soon as it arrives and is activated, so you don't have to wait for the bank transfer if you need immediate access. There are fees for ATM withdrawals though, so the bank transfer is definitely more cost-effective if you can wait the extra 2-3 days. Really hoping both our cards show up soon! This whole process has been way more stressful than it should be.

I'm in the exact same boat as you! Filed around the same time and just got approved yesterday too. It's so reassuring to know I'm not the only one dealing with this uncertainty. The ATM access tip is really helpful - I hadn't thought about that option for getting cash immediately once the card arrives. Even with the fees, it might be worth it for emergency expenses while waiting for the bank transfer to process. Thanks for sharing your experience, and fingers crossed we both get our cards by early next week!

I just went through this whole process a couple months ago and wanted to share what worked for me! My Money Network card took exactly 10 business days to arrive after my first "paid" status showed up. Here's what I wish I had known: Money Network has a card tracking feature once you're in their system. After about 48 hours from when EDD processes your payment, try calling Money Network again and ask specifically about card tracking - they should be able to give you a tracking number for the envelope. For the bank transfer question - once I got my card activated, the transfer to my personal account took 3 business days the first time, but subsequent transfers were consistently 2 business days. Way faster than paper checks in my experience. Also, keep an eye out for a plain white envelope with just your name and address - no Money Network branding on the outside at all. I almost missed mine because it looked like random mail! The anxiety is totally understandable when you're waiting for money you need, but based on your timeline you should definitely have access by early next week. Hang in there!

0 coins

This is super helpful info, thank you! The card tracking feature sounds like exactly what I need to ease my anxiety about when it'll arrive. I'll definitely call Money Network again tomorrow and ask specifically about that. Good to know about the plain envelope too - I'll make sure to check everything carefully. Really appreciate you sharing your timeline and experience!

I just went through this exact situation about 3 months ago! My card took 9 business days to arrive, which was right in that typical 7-10 day window everyone mentions. One thing that really helped me was setting up text alerts through Money Network once I was in their system (usually happens 24-48 hours after EDD processes payment). They'll text you when the card ships and give you a rough delivery estimate. For the transfer timing - once you get your card activated, the first transfer to your bank account took 3 business days for me, but after that all subsequent transfers were exactly 2 business days. Much more reliable than the paper check option. Pro tip: When you do get your card, activate it immediately and then set up the direct deposit feature for future payments. That way you won't have to go through this waiting game again - your next certification will deposit directly to your bank account instead of the card. The whole process is definitely stressful when you're counting on the money, but you should have access to your funds by the middle of next week based on your timeline. The system works, it's just painfully slow that first time around!

•

Thanks for sharing your experience! The text alerts feature sounds really helpful - I had no idea Money Network offered that. I'll definitely set that up once I'm in their system. It's reassuring to hear that the direct deposit setup for future payments works so smoothly too. I'm already dreading having to go through this waiting process again for my next certification, so knowing I can avoid it is a huge relief! Really appreciate the timeline info and the pro tip about immediate activation.

Just wanted to add my recent experience to help ease your anxiety! I went through this exact same situation about 6 weeks ago - filed mid-February and got my first payment approved on a Thursday. My Money Network card took exactly 8 business days to arrive, which put it right at the beginning of the following week. The key thing that helped me was calling Money Network on day 3 after my EDD payment showed "paid" - by then I was in their system and they could confirm the card had been issued and give me an estimated delivery window. One really important thing I learned: even though the card envelope looks like junk mail (plain white, no logos), it actually has "IMPORTANT" printed in small text on the bottom corner. That's how I knew not to throw it away! For your bank transfer question - once activated, my transfers took exactly 2 business days every time. Way more reliable than when I tried paper checks during my previous claim. Based on your timeline (payment approved yesterday), I'd expect your card by next Tuesday or Wednesday at the latest. You should definitely have access to your funds well before the weekend. The waiting is brutal but the system does work!

0 coins

This is incredibly reassuring, thank you so much for sharing such detailed info! The "IMPORTANT" text on the envelope is a great detail - I'll definitely be looking for that. It's also really helpful to know that by day 3 after payment approval, Money Network should have me in their system and be able to give me tracking info. That gives me a concrete timeline for when to call them back. Your Tuesday/Wednesday estimate aligns perfectly with what others have said too, so I'm feeling much more confident about having access to funds before my bills are due. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience!

I went through this same situation last year and totally understand your anxiety! Here's what I learned that might help: The Money Network card typically arrives 7-10 business days after your payment shows "paid" - so you're looking at early next week most likely. The fact that Money Network doesn't have you in their system yet is completely normal - there's usually a 24-48 hour delay between EDD processing and Money Network receiving your info. For accessing funds quickly once you get the card: you can withdraw cash at ATMs immediately after activation (there are fees, but it's instant access), or do the bank transfer which takes 2-3 business days but is fee-free. One thing that saved my sanity was signing up for USPS Informed Delivery - you get email previews of your mail each morning so you'll know exactly when that plain white envelope is coming. The card envelope really does look like junk mail! If you're really in a bind with bills due, you might also consider calling EDD to see if they can expedite or provide any emergency payment options, though that's usually a last resort. Based on your timeline, you should definitely have access to your funds by early next week. I know the waiting is stressful when you need the money, but the system does work - just takes patience that first time around!

The USPS Informed Delivery tip is brilliant! I just signed up for it and can already see what's coming tomorrow. This will definitely help me stop obsessively checking my mailbox every few hours. I really appreciate the reassurance about the timeline too - knowing that early next week is realistic based on so many people's experiences makes me feel way less anxious about my bills. It's crazy how something as simple as seeing a preview of your mail can give you so much peace of mind during this waiting period!

I just went through this exact process last month and wanted to share what helped me get through the waiting period! My Money Network card took exactly 7 business days to arrive after my payment status changed to "paid." A few things that made the process smoother: 1. Money Network will have you in their system within 48 hours of EDD processing your payment, so try calling them again on Monday - they should be able to confirm your card has been issued by then. 2. Once you get the card and activate it, you can immediately withdraw cash at any MoneyPass ATM (there's a network locator on their website). Yes there are fees, but if you need emergency cash while waiting for the bank transfer, it's available right away. 3. For bank transfers, mine consistently took exactly 2 business days once I set it up. Much more reliable than the paper check timeline in my experience. 4. The envelope really does look like junk mail - completely plain with just your address. I almost missed mine! Given that your payment was approved yesterday, you're looking at the card arriving sometime between next Tuesday and Thursday. The anxiety is totally understandable when you have bills coming due, but you should have access to your funds well before the weekend. Hang in there!

This is such a comprehensive breakdown, thank you! The MoneyPass ATM network tip is something I hadn't heard before - that could be really useful for getting cash immediately once the card arrives. Your timeline of Tuesday-Thursday for card delivery matches what everyone else is saying too, which gives me a lot more confidence. I'm definitely going to call Money Network again on Monday since by then I should be in their system. Really appreciate you sharing such detailed practical advice - it's exactly what I needed to hear to stop spiraling about the timing!

I'm in almost the exact same situation! Filed my claim on March 15th and just got approved yesterday too. Reading through all these responses has been so helpful - I was starting to panic about when I'd actually see the money. The timeline everyone is sharing (7-10 business days for the card) seems pretty consistent, which gives me hope we'll both have our cards by early next week. I'm definitely going to sign up for that USPS Informed Delivery service that several people mentioned - seems like a game changer for knowing when to expect it. One question for folks who've been through this: once you activate the Money Network card, do you get any kind of email confirmation that it's ready to use? Or do you just have to try using it to know it worked? I'm worried about the activation process being another potential delay. Thanks to everyone for sharing their experiences - this thread is way more helpful than anything I could find on the official EDD website!

Hey! I just went through the Money Network card activation process a few weeks ago and can answer your question. When you activate the card (either online or by phone), you'll get an immediate confirmation that it's active - no waiting period. If you activate online, there's a green checkmark and "Card Successfully Activated" message. If you do it by phone, the automated system will confirm it's ready to use right away. You can actually test it immediately by checking your balance online or at an ATM once activated. No delays there thankfully! The activation itself only takes about 2-3 minutes, so that won't be another stressful waiting period like getting the card in the first place. And yes, definitely sign up for USPS Informed Delivery - it was a total lifesaver for my peace of mind during the waiting period!

I went through this exact same waiting period about 2 months ago and totally feel your stress! Here's my timeline to hopefully give you some peace of mind: Filed in late January, got my first payment approved on a Tuesday, and my Money Network card arrived the following Friday (8 business days). The card came in a super plain white envelope that I almost threw away thinking it was junk mail. A couple things that helped me during the wait: - Money Network had me in their system by Thursday (2 days after payment approval) and could confirm the card was mailed - I set up USPS Informed Delivery which showed me exactly when the envelope was coming - Once I activated the card, bank transfers took exactly 2 business days every time For your timeline, payment approved yesterday (Friday) means you should see the card sometime between next Wednesday and Friday. Definitely before your bills are due next week! One tip: when you do get the card, activate it immediately and set up the direct deposit feature for future payments. That way you won't have to go through this nail-biting wait again - your next certification will go straight to your bank account. The whole system is frustratingly slow that first time, but it does work. You'll have access to your money very soon!

This timeline is super helpful and really matches what everyone else has been saying! I'm feeling so much more confident now that Wednesday-Friday next week is realistic for getting the card. The direct deposit setup tip is something I definitely want to do right away - going through this waiting and anxiety once is more than enough! It's also reassuring to know that the bank transfers are so consistent at 2 business days. I was worried there might be more variability there too, but it sounds like once you get past this initial card delivery hurdle, everything else moves pretty predictably. Thanks for taking the time to share your detailed timeline - it really helps to hear from someone who went through the exact same situation recently!

I just went through this same process about 6 weeks ago and completely understand your anxiety! The waiting when you have bills due is absolutely nerve-wracking. My timeline was almost identical to yours - payment approved on a Thursday, and I got my Money Network card exactly 9 business days later (the following Tuesday). Here's what helped me get through the wait: Money Network will have you in their system within 24-48 hours of EDD processing your payment, so definitely try calling them again on Monday. By then they should be able to confirm your card has been issued and even provide tracking info. The envelope is super plain - just white with your name and address, no Money Network branding at all. I almost threw mine away! Look for small text that says "IMPORTANT" in the corner. Once you get the card activated (takes 2-3 minutes online), bank transfers are consistently 2 business days. You can also withdraw cash immediately at any ATM if you need emergency funds while waiting for the transfer, though there are fees. Pro tip: As soon as you activate the card, set up direct deposit for future payments so you never have to go through this waiting game again!
