Money Network Card delivery time after claim reopening - transferring funds to bank account

Just reopened my EDD claim after ending a 6-month contract position, and I certified for the first time this Sunday. My UI Online account is showing 'paid' status but I'm confused about this new Money Network Card situation. From what I understand, I need to wait for a physical card to be mailed to me before accessing my benefits? Anyone know approximately how long it takes for these cards to arrive? Also, once I get the card, what's the process for setting up online access and transferring the funds to my personal checking account? First time dealing with this new payment system and I'm trying to budget for bills coming up next week. Thanks for any guidance!

Yes, you'll need to wait for the Money Network Card to arrive by mail. For most people, it takes 7-10 business days after your first payment shows as 'paid' in the system. Once you receive it, you'll need to activate it by calling the number on the sticker, then you can create an online account at moneynetwork.com. From there, you can set up direct transfers to your bank account. Remember to keep the card even after transferring the money - future payments will be loaded to the same card.

Thanks for the clear explanation! 7-10 business days is longer than I hoped... any idea if there's a way to check the status of the card delivery? My rent is due next Friday and I'm cutting it close.

I got mine in like 5 days but my friend had to wait almost 3 weeks for hers!!! so frustrating

OMG THREE WEEKS?! That's ridiculous! The EDD needs to fix their system - people need their money when they're unemployed, not weeks later! How are we supposed to pay bills?

i got confused too when i reopend my claim last month! the most annoying thing is you need to active the card when it comes or it wont work. make sure u dont throw away the envelope it has instructions. and yeah u can transfer to ur bank but theres a limit i think like $1000 per day or something

Thanks for the heads up about the activation instructions and transfer limits. Did you find the online transfer process easy to use once you got everything set up?

If you've received unemployment benefits before (pre-2023), you might still have the old Bank of America card. That won't work anymore - the Money Network card is completely different. You'll definitely need to wait for the new card. For bank transfers, there are actually two options: 1) One-time transfers through the Money Network portal, or 2) Setting up recurring transfers. The daily limit is $1,000 and there's a $10,000 monthly limit. Transfers typically take 1-3 business days to complete. If you need your funds urgently and can't wait for the card, you might want to try contacting EDD directly, though that's extremely difficult with their phone system.

Good luck trying to get through to EDD on the phone! I was calling for THREE DAYS STRAIGHT last month and couldn't get past the 'we're experiencing high call volume' message. So frustrating!

Thanks for all the helpful responses everyone. I called Money Network customer service this morning and they confirmed my card was mailed out yesterday. They said it should arrive within 5-7 business days, and they gave me some tips on setting up the account. I'm still nervous about the timing with my rent due soon, but at least I have a better understanding of the process now. I'll update once I receive the card in case it helps anyone else in a similar situation.

something else i forgot to mention, u can actually use the money network app on ur phone to check if money was deposited before the card even arrives. u just cant access it till u get the physical card. the app is actually pretty good, way better than the old BofA one.

That's a great tip about the app! Yes, you can set up your Money Network account online or via the mobile app even before receiving the physical card. This lets you see your balance and transaction history, but as mentioned, you won't be able to use the funds until you activate the physical card.
