EDD payment issued but confused about Money Network card vs old BofA card

Hey everyone! I finally got my claim certified and approved this week (thank goodness after waiting 6 weeks). I checked my UI Online account and it shows 'paid' status as of Monday, which is a huge relief. Here's my confusion though - I know EDD switched from Bank of America to Money Network for their debit cards, but my husband and I still have our old BofA card from when we claimed benefits in 2023. Will they just deposit to our old card during this transition period, or are we supposed to be getting a new Money Network card? I haven't received anything in the mail about a new card yet. Does anyone know if EDD still pays to old cards or should I be contacting someone about this? I'm trying to budget for upcoming bills and need to know where to expect the money and when. Thanks for any help!

Ughhh that's what I was afraid of! Did your friend have to contact anyone or did the card just show up automatically after the payment was issued?

The previous commenter is correct. EDD completely switched to Money Network in July 2024. Your payment is being held for you, but it will ONLY be issued to a Money Network card, not your old BofA card. The new card should automatically be mailed to you within 7-10 business days after your first payment is processed. You don't need to request it. Once you receive it, you'll need to activate it by following the instructions included with the card. You can also set up direct deposit to your bank account through the Money Network mobile app once you receive and activate your card if you prefer not to use the card for purchases.

Thank you for such a clear explanation! It's just so stressful when you see 'paid' but can't actually access the money. I'll keep an eye out for the new card in the mail.

I WAITED 3 WEEKS FOR MY STUPID MONEY NETWORK CARD!!! EDD says "paid" but you can't get YOUR OWN MONEY until their card arrives!!! It's ridiculous!! Call Money Network directly and they might be able to expedite the card delivery. The EDD website lies about the 7-10 days, it's taking way longer now because so many people are filing claims.

Oh no, 3 weeks?! I can't wait that long! Do you have the Money Network phone number? I'll call them right now and see if they can expedite it.

I went through this last month. Money Network will automatically mail you a card once EDD reports your first payment. You can actually track the status of your card by creating an account on the Money Network website before you even receive the card. Just need your SSN and some personal info. That way you can at least see if it's been mailed yet. And yes, unfortunately there's no more BOA option - I tried asking about that too since I still had my old card.

When I was having trouble getting through to EDD about my card issues, I used Claimyr and actually got connected to a live agent in like 15 minutes. I was shocked because I'd tried calling for 3 days straight before that with no luck. They have this system that calls for you and gets you through the phone tree. Saved me days of frustration. Their website is claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km

you guys are giving wrong advice! if u had direct deposit set up with EDD before the switch, they actually WILL deposit to your bank account. happened to me. But if u were using the BofA card, then yes u need to wait for Money Network card.

This is partially correct, but needs clarification. If you had direct deposit set up BEFORE the Money Network transition AND you've certified for benefits since the transition without changing your payment method, your first payment after the transition may still go to direct deposit. However, you will still eventually need to set up a Money Network account for future payments. Most claimants are being automatically migrated to Money Network cards regardless of previous payment method.

I've been working with EDD claims for years and here's what's happening with the transition: 1. All new payments go through Money Network now, not BofA 2. If this is your first payment in 2025, a card will automatically be mailed 3. Standard processing time is 7-10 business days, but current backlog has pushed some deliveries to 2-3 weeks 4. Once you receive the card, you can call the number on it to check your balance 5. You can also download the Money Network app to manage your funds 6. You can set up direct deposit from the Money Network card to your bank account after activation For fastest service, ensure your mailing address is correct in your UI Online account. Money Network cards are mailed to whatever address EDD has on file.

Thank you! This is really helpful. I double-checked my UI Online account and my address is correct, so hopefully the card will arrive soon. Is there any way to get an expedited card if I call Money Network directly?

To answer your follow-up question: Yes, you can call Money Network customer service at 1-888-393-5866 to request expedited delivery of your card. They may charge a fee for this service (usually around $15) which would be deducted from your balance. They typically offer 3-day expedited shipping. You'll need to verify your identity with them, which usually requires providing your SSN, EDD Customer Account Number, and answering security questions.
