EDD Money Network card delays - certified but still using old BofA card?

Just certified for my benefits for the first time in 2025 and now I'm confused about the payment card situation. I still have my old Bank of America EDD card from when I was on unemployment last year, but I heard everyone's supposed to be on the Money Network card system now? Will my funds be deposited to my old BofA card or am I supposed to wait for a new Money Network card to arrive? I don't have direct deposit set up and really can't afford to wait weeks without access to these funds. Anyone know if I can just use my old card or what the timeline is for getting the new one? Really stressing about bills coming due next week.

You'll need to wait for the Money Network card since EDD completely switched from Bank of America. Your old BofA card won't receive new payments - they've fully transitioned all accounts. Most people get their Money Network card within 7-10 business days after their first payment is processed. You can check if your payment was issued by logging into UI Online and going to Payment History. Once it shows 'paid' status, your card should arrive within that timeframe. If you're really in a bind, try calling EDD directly to see if they can expedite it, but honestly good luck getting through their phone system... I spent 4 days trying to reach someone when I was in your situation.

Ugh, that's what I was afraid of. I really can't wait 7-10 business days... my rent is due Monday and I'm already late on utilities. Is there ANY way to speed this up? Do they offer any emergency options?

Thanks for confirming. Do you remember how long it took for your Money Network card to arrive?

If ur payment says PAID in the system but u dont have a card yet u might try going to a BOA branch to explain the situation. They cnt give u the $ but they might be able to tell u for sure if any $ still on old card. Sorta similar thing happened to my cousin and he just needed to activate his money network card online first b4 the money showed up.

This is incorrect information - Bank of America branches cannot help with EDD cards anymore, even old ones. They completely ended their relationship with EDD and transferred all remaining balances to Money Network. Going to a branch will just waste the person's time. The only solutions are waiting for the Money Network card or setting up direct deposit in UI Online (which takes 1-2 payment cycles to activate).

I had the same issue back in January. EDD switched ALL unemployment payments to Money Network - the BofA cards are completely phased out. Even if you have an old BofA card, new payments will only go to Money Network. Here's what you can do: 1. Log into UI Online and set up direct deposit immediately (if you have a bank account) - this won't help for your current payment but will prevent future delays 2. Call EDD to verify your address and see if they can expedite your card. Getting through to EDD is nearly impossible with regular calling, but I used a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me connected to an actual agent within 25 minutes. They have a video showing how it works here: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km. The agent I spoke with was able to confirm my Money Network card was already mailed. 3. Once your card arrives, immediately set up the Money Network mobile app - it makes managing your benefits much easier than the old BofA system.

Thank you SO much for the detailed info! I'm going to try setting up direct deposit right now, though it sounds like I'll still need the card for this first payment. I'll check out that Claimyr service too - at this point I'd try anything to get this resolved faster. Really appreciate the help!

The EDD/Money Network transition has been a COMPLETE DISASTER!! I waited 3 WEEKS for my card after certifying and almost got evicted because of their incompetence!!! The worst part is that nobody at EDD even bothered to clearly communicate this change to claimants. They just expect everyone to somehow know that the BofA cards aren't used anymore!! And good luck trying to reach anyone by phone - I called 47 TIMES in one day and never got through!!! This system is BROKEN beyond belief!!!

To clarify some confusion in this thread: 1. All EDD unemployment payments now go through Money Network cards, not Bank of America. This transition was completed in July 2024. 2. Your first payment after a new claim or reactivated claim will always go to the Money Network card, even if you set up direct deposit immediately. 3. The average delivery time for new Money Network cards is 7-10 business days after your first payment is processed (shows as 'paid' in the system). 4. For future payments, direct deposit is the fastest option. You can set this up in UI Online under 'Payment Methods' - it typically takes effect after your first payment cycle. 5. Money Network does offer expedited card delivery for a fee ($15 typically), but you must speak with an EDD representative to request this option. If you're in a financial emergency, you might want to look into local emergency assistance programs while waiting for your card. Many counties have short-term emergency funds available for those waiting on unemployment benefits.

Thank you for all this detail. I didn't realize Money Network offered expedited delivery - that $15 fee would be totally worth it in my situation. I'm going to try calling EDD tomorrow morning first thing.

UPDATE: I wanted to follow up in case anyone else runs into this problem. I used the Claimyr service mentioned above and actually got through to an EDD rep in about 20 minutes (after trying for 2 days on my own with no luck). The representative confirmed my payment was processed and requested expedited delivery for my Money Network card for a $15 fee. They said I should receive it within 3 business days. They also helped me set up direct deposit for future payments. Just wanted to share what worked for me - thanks everyone for your help!
