EDD switched to Money Network cards - still waiting for mine but need payment tonight

I'm really confused about this whole switch from Bank of America to Money Network for unemployment payments. My regular certification went through last Sunday, and payment is supposed to hit tonight, but I STILL haven't received my new Money Network debit card. The EDD website shows my payment as 'paid' but where is it actually going? Is it being loaded onto a card I don't have yet? I'm seriously stressing because rent is due in 3 days and I was counting on this payment. Has anyone else dealt with this transition period? Will my payment still go to my old BofA card tonight or am I just out of luck until the new card arrives?

Have you tried checking the Money Network card status? I can't even figure out how to do that without the card number 😫

The switch from BofA to Money Network happened earlier this year. If your EDD account shows the payment as 'paid', it was sent to Money Network, not your old BofA card. You can check the status of your card by calling 1-888-964-1170. They should be able to tell you if it's been mailed out and when to expect it. If you're in a bind, once you get the card, you can transfer the funds to your personal bank account, but that takes 1-3 business days.

Thanks for the info! I tried calling that number but got stuck in a loop asking for my card number (which I don't have yet). Is there any way to speed up getting the card? My landlord isn't exactly the patient type.

My sister went thru this last month and yes the payment goes to the new card EVEN IF you dont have it yet!! Super stupid system. The money just sits there waiting for you to activate the new card when it finally arrives. EDD dosent care if your rent is due they just say 'we paid u' but u cant access it lol

Yup this is 100% accurate. The money is basically in limbo until you get that card. When I called they said 7-10 business days for delivery but mine took almost 3 weeks! Everything is just SITTING there waiting for you to access it.

I had this exact problem back in March when they first started transitioning. Here's what you need to know: 1. Your payment will NOT go to the BofA card - all payments now go to Money Network 2. Money Network typically takes 7-10 business days to deliver the card after your first payment is processed 3. You can request expedited delivery of the card for a fee, but you'll need to speak with an actual representative 4. Unfortunately, the automated system does require the card number which creates a catch-22 I recommend using Claimyr (claimyr.com) to help you get through to an EDD representative who can help with this situation. They basically call EDD for you and connect you when they get through. I was skeptical at first but their service actually worked for me when I needed to resolve an issue with my missing card. They have a video demo here: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km that shows how it works. Once you get through to EDD, explain that you need urgent access to your funds and they can sometimes help with expediting the card.

Thank you so much for the detailed info! This is super helpful. I'll check out that Claimyr service - I've wasted hours trying to get through to EDD with no luck. Desperate times call for desperate measures I guess.

I HATE this new stupid Money Network system!!! BofA wasn't perfect but at least it WORKED. This is the THIRD post I've seen today about this exact issue. EDD should have had a transition period where they sent cards BEFORE cutting off the old system. But nooooo, that would make too much sense for a government agency!! 🤬

They actually did send notices about the switch months ago... I got mine in january I think? But the communications were really confusing and buried in all their other emails. Still a poorly executed transition for sure.

Here's a tip that worked for me - if you call the Money Network number, immediately press 0# repeatedly during the automated system. Sometimes this will bypass the card number requirement and get you to a human. Took me about 4 tries but I eventually got through. The rep was able to confirm my identity with SSN and address instead of card number and told me exactly when my card was mailed.

OMG thank you! I'm going to try this right now. Did they give you any options for expediting once you got through?

Yes! They offered expedited shipping for $15 which they can deduct from your balance. Totally worth it if you're in a financial pinch. The regular card takes forever but expedited was 2 days for me.

my brother works for the apartment management company and says lots of tenants having this problem right now with the card switch... maybe your landlord has seen this before? worth asking for a few days extension and showing the EDD payment confirmation as proof your not just making excuses

That's actually a good idea. I'll screenshot my UI Online payment status and see if that helps. Worth a try at least!

Just wanted to follow up - were you able to get through to anyone? The Money Network system is definitely frustrating during the transition, but once you actually get the card, it works pretty well. The app is much better than the old BofA one.

Yes! The 0# trick actually worked after about 6 tries. I got through to a rep who confirmed my card was mailed 4 days ago, so it should arrive by the end of this week. I paid for expedited shipping for a replacement to be safe ($15 fee) which should arrive in 2 business days. Thanks everyone for your help! This community is amazing.
