EDD Money Network debit card automatic replacement? Still have old BofA card
So I'm filing a new claim after not being on unemployment for over 2 years. I still have my old Bank of America EDD debit card from my previous claim, but I know EDD switched to Money Network recently. Will they automatically send me the new Money Network card when my claim is approved, or do I need to request it somewhere? I don't see any option in UI Online to select card preferences. Anyone gone through this transition recently? Just trying to avoid payment delays once my claim gets processed.

Yes, they'll automatically send you the Money Network card once your claim is approved and they make your first payment. You don't need to request it. The system recognizes that you don't have a Money Network card yet based on your EDD account. Just make sure your mailing address is up-to-date in UI Online!

•Thanks! That's a relief. My address is current, so hopefully it'll arrive without issues.

I HAD TO WAIT ALMOST 3 WEEKS for my Money Network card to arrive after my first payment was issued!!! The EDD website said my payment was sent but I couldn't access MY OWN MONEY for weeks!!! They don't warn you about this AT ALL. The old BofA card is completely useless now, might as well cut it up. This whole system is designed to make us suffer!!!!

They'll send the Money Network card automatically after your first payment is processed. One tip though - you can actually set up direct deposit with Money Network and avoid using the card altogether. That's what I did. Look for the direct deposit option once you activate your card. Much faster than waiting for funds to hit the card.

•That's good to know! I'd definitely prefer direct deposit. Does it take long to set up once you get the card?

•It's pretty simple. Once you get the card, you'll create an account on the Money Network website, then you can set up direct deposit with your checking account info. Takes about 2-3 business days to verify your bank account, then future payments go straight to your bank.

When I filed my claim in January, my first payment was pending for weeks and I couldn't get through to EDD on the phone to find out about my card. I tried for days - constant busy signals and disconnections. I finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to a rep who confirmed my Money Network card was already mailed but had been sent to an old address. They helped me update it right away. Saved me weeks of waiting! They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km

•Yes, it worked for me - got through to a rep in about 25 minutes instead of spending days redialing. They basically keep calling for you using their system that knows when to get in the queue.

I just went through this last month! So first they approve your claim, then they issue the first payment, and THEN they mail the Money Network card. The whole process took about 10 days from approval to having money I could actually use. My old BofA card from 2020 just sits in my drawer now lol

•10 days isn't too bad. Did you have to activate the card by phone or online?

•You have to call the number on the card to activate it. The automated system asks for your SSN and makes you create a PIN. Pretty simple process. The card comes in a very plain white envelope so don't throw it out thinking it's junk mail like my roommate almost did with mine!

•Just to clarify - any remaining funds on the old BofA card don't automatically transfer to the new Money Network card. If you still had funds on your BofA card, you need to contact Bank of America EDD customer service directly to access those funds or request a check. The two card systems are completely separate.

Another important thing to know - make sure you verify your identity correctly during the application process. If there are any ID verification issues with ID.me, your payments might get held up even if your claim is approved, and that will delay your card being sent. The Money Network card will only be mailed once your first payment is actually issued (not just approved).

•Good point. I already completed the ID.me verification and that part went smoothly. Hoping everything else goes as planned!
