Money Network debit card not arrived - EDD says payment issued 2 weeks ago

I'm at my wits' end with this Money Network card situation! EDD says they've paid me and my UI Online account shows 'PAID' for my last 3 certifications (about $1,650 total). The payment was supposedly issued 14 days ago, but I STILL haven't received my debit card in the mail. How long should it normally take? I've never received unemployment before, so I'm not sure if I'm supposed to activate something online first or if it just shows up? My rent is due next week and I'm starting to panic. Has anyone dealt with this recently?

It can take 7-10 business days to get the card after ur first payment. But its been longer than that for u so u should call Money Network directly at 1-866-692-9374. They can tell u if the card was even mailed out. EDD doesnt handle the cards, which is super annoying.

Thank you! I had no idea I was supposed to call Money Network directly. I've been wasting time trying to reach EDD. Will call them first thing tomorrow.

The Money Network cards are notorious for getting delayed in the mail. I had to wait nearly 3 weeks for mine in January 2025. If your UI Online account shows 'PAID' status, that's good news - the money is definitely there waiting for you. Here's what you should do: 1. Call Money Network at 1-866-692-9374 to confirm they've mailed your card 2. If they say it was sent, ask for the date and whether they can see tracking info 3. If it's been over 10 business days, request a replacement card (they can expedite for a fee) Don't worry about activating anything beforehand - you'll activate the card when it arrives. The funds will all be there waiting for you!

This is super helpful, thank you!! I didn't know I could request expedited shipping. My anxiety is through the roof waiting for this money. Will definitely call them tomorrow.

I highly recommend setting up direct deposit once you get your card. It's so much easier than dealing with the debit card. Here's what to do: 1. Once you receive your Money Network card, activate it by calling the number on the sticker 2. Create an account on the Money Network website 3. Go to "Account Settings" and select "Direct Deposit" 4. Enter your bank account info 5. Future payments will go straight to your bank account within 1-2 days It saves so much stress! In the meantime, definitely call Money Network customer service to check on your card status.

Thank you! I had no idea I could set up direct deposit. Will definitely do this as soon as I get the card. The whole separate debit card system seems unnecessarily complicated.

If you need to reach an EDD rep about this or any other claim issues, I'd recommend trying Claimyr.com. I was dealing with a similar issue (and several other problems with my claim) and couldn't get through on the regular phone lines for days. Claimyr connected me with an EDD agent in about 25 minutes. They have a video that shows how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km In my case, the EDD agent was able to confirm my payment was sent to Money Network and gave me the exact date. Then I called Money Network with that info and they expedited a replacement card when I explained my situation.

Thank you for this suggestion! I've been trying to call EDD for days and keep getting the "we're experiencing high call volume" message. I'll check out that service if Money Network doesn't help resolve this tomorrow.

is this legit?? seems sketchy to use a third party service to talk to EDD...

It's definitely legit - they don't access your EDD account or anything. They just connect your call to EDD and get you past the busy signals. Totally worth it if you've been trying for days with no luck.

One more thing - while you're waiting for your card, if you're really in a bind financially, you might qualify for emergency assistance through your county. Many counties have short-term emergency funds available for people waiting on unemployment benefits. Worth looking into if rent is coming up and you're worried.

I hadn't thought of that! Great suggestion - I'll look into local resources as a backup plan. Hopefully the Money Network situation gets resolved quickly, but it's good to have options.

WHY CAN'T EDD JUST DEPOSIT THE MONEY DIRECTLY TO OUR ACCOUNTS FROM THE BEGINNING?!?!? Why force us to wait for some stupid plastic card and THEN set up direct deposit? Makes ZERO sense! The system is designed to delay our payments!!!

They actually do offer direct deposit from the beginning now, but you have to specifically select that option when you first apply. If you didn't choose it initially, then you default to the Money Network card. It's not well-explained in the application process.

Of course they don't make that clear!!! I bet most people dont know that option exists!! Typical EDD making everything as difficult as possible!!!

UPDATE: I called Money Network this morning and they confirmed my card was mailed 16 days ago! They said it must have been lost in the mail and agreed to send a replacement with expedited shipping (2-3 business days). Had to pay $15 for the expedited shipping, but that's worth it considering how much I'm waiting on. Thank you all for your help and suggestions!

Great news! Glad you got it sorted out. That $15 is definitely worth it for peace of mind and getting your benefits faster. Remember to set up direct deposit once you get the card!

good to hear! yeah the $15 sucks but better than waiting another 2 weeks!
