How quickly can I access EDD funds after certifying on Money Network card?

So I just certified for the first time yesterday (Sunday) and I'm trying to figure out when I'll actually have access to the money on my Money Network card. My rent is due on Friday and I'm cutting it super close. Does anyone know how long after certification the funds typically hit the card? Is it different for first-time payments vs regular ones? I got the Money Network card in the mail last week but haven't activated it yet since there's no money on it. Do I need to activate it before they'll deposit the funds or does that not matter? Sorry for all the questions but the EDD website is confusing me!

After you certify, it usually takes 24-48 hours for EDD to process and deposit the payment to your Money Network card. BUT you definitely need to activate your card first! Don't wait! I made that mistake and it delayed my payment. Once the money is on your card, you can use it right away - the card works like a regular debit card at ATMs, stores, or you can transfer money to your bank account through their app. First payments sometimes take a bit longer because they're verifying everything, but since you already have the card, you should be good. I'd recommend activating it TODAY so you're all set when the money hits.

Omg thank you! I had no idea I needed to activate it first. Doing that right now! Will the app show me when the payment is pending or will it just suddenly appear?

Most of my payments hit my Money Network card within 24 hours after certifying. But I always certify at midnight when the system opens up on Sunday. If you certified later in the day, it might take until Tuesday. DEFINITELY activate your card right away! You can download the Money Network app to track when your payment posts. First payments sometimes take an extra day because of additional verification, but since you already have your card, that's a good sign your claim is processing normally.

This is NOT always true!! My first payment took FIVE DAYS to hit my card even after certifying right at midnight! EDD's system is completely broken and random. Some people get paid in 24 hours, others wait a week for NO REASON AT ALL. They never explain the delays either. It's all about luck with their terrible system. Just warning you not to count on it for rent until you actually SEE the money there!!!

If you need to reach EDD to check on payment status, try using Claimyr (claimyr.com). I was in a similar situation where my payment was delayed and I needed to make rent. Used their service and got through to an EDD rep in about 20 minutes instead of calling for days with no luck. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km - saved me a ton of frustration when I was panicking about my delayed payment.

Just wanted to add... make sure your certification doesn't have any issues that could delay payment! I certified on Sunday once and didn't get paid for over a week because I accidentally reported some income wrong and my certification got flagged for review. Double-check your UI Online account to make sure your certification status shows \

That's great news! For future reference, here's what I've learned about the Money Network card after using it for months:\n\n1. You can set up direct deposit to your bank from the Money Network app or website (takes 1-3 business days)\n2. ATM withdrawals at AllPoint or MoneyPass ATMs are free (there's an ATM locator in the app)\n3. You can use it like a regular debit card for purchases anywhere Visa is accepted\n4. Keep your card even after your claim ends - EDD will use the same card if you ever need benefits again\n5. There's a customer service number on the back of your card for any card-specific issues\n\nGlad everything worked out for your rent payment!

Glad to hear you got your payment sorted out! Just wanted to add a few tips for anyone else dealing with Money Network card timing issues: If you're ever in a tight spot waiting for your EDD payment and need to access funds quickly, you can actually get cash back when making purchases at most grocery stores and pharmacies (usually up to $40-100 depending on the store). Also, if you have multiple weeks to certify, they'll all get deposited together once processing is complete, so don't panic if you see a larger amount than expected. The Money Network mobile app also sends push notifications when deposits hit your account, which is super helpful for tracking payments in real time!

This is really helpful info! I didn't know about the cash back option at stores - that's a great tip for when you're waiting for payments to process. Quick question though - are there any fees for using the cash back feature? I want to make sure I'm not getting charged extra when I'm already tight on money. Also, do you know if there's a daily limit on how much you can withdraw total (like ATM + cash back combined)? I'm still pretty new to all this and want to avoid any surprise fees!

@Keisha Johnson No fees for cash back at most places when you use your Money Network card! It s'treated just like a regular debit card transaction. The daily withdrawal limit is usually $1000 total ATM (+ cash back combined ,)but some stores have their own lower limits for cash back - like Target caps it at $40, while some grocery stores let you do $100+. Just make sure you re'using it as debit "not" credit "when" you checkout to get the cash back option. One heads up though - always check your receipt because some sketchy gas stations or corner stores might try to charge a fee, but legit grocery stores and pharmacies shouldn t'charge you anything extra!

Great to see this worked out! Just wanted to share my experience for anyone else reading - I've been on EDD for about 8 months now and the timing has gotten pretty predictable for me. I always certify Sunday night around 11pm and my Money Network card gets the deposit by Tuesday morning 99% of the time. The key things that helped me were: 1) Setting up text alerts through the Money Network app so I know immediately when funds hit, 2) Double-checking my certification before submitting (one small mistake can delay everything), and 3) Having a backup plan for tight timing situations. For rent payments, I've found that most landlords are understanding about a 1-2 day delay if you explain it's EDD processing time - just communicate early! Also pro tip: you can pay rent directly with the Money Network card at some property management companies, which saves you from having to transfer to your bank account first.
