How long after EDD certification until payment hits Money Network card?

Just certified for my weekly benefits this morning for the first time (new claim). I'm completely broke and desperately need to know when I can expect to see the money on my Money Network card. The EDD website says something about 24 hours after certification but I've heard it can take longer for new claims? My rent is due Friday and I'm freaking out about timing. Anyone know the actual timeframe I'm looking at here?

In my experience, it usually takes about 48 hours for funds to show up on your Money Network card if your certification goes through without any issues. First payments sometimes take a bit longer though - mine took 3 days the first time. If your certification status says 'paid' in your UI Online account, you can expect the money soon. Have you checked if your certification status shows 'paid' or 'pending'? That's key.

It just says 'pending' right now. Does that mean there's a problem or is that normal? I seriously can't afford any delays.

it depends some ppl get paid same day some take a few days i got mine next day at like 10pm but my friend waited 5 days cos they had to review something just check ur ui online account for status updates

5 days?? Omg I hope that doesn't happen to me. What would they need to review?

The standard timeline for EDD payments after certification is: 1. Certification gets processed (usually same day) 2. Status changes from "pending" to "paid" (24-48 hours typically) 3. Transfer to Money Network card (0-24 hours after status changes to paid) So in total, you're looking at 1-3 days for most people IF there are no issues with your claim. First payments can sometimes take longer because they go through additional verification. If your claim has any eligibility questions or your identity verification isn't fully processed, it could potentially delay things further. I'd recommend checking your UI Online dashboard 2-3 times a day. Once you see the status change to "paid," you'll typically have the money within 24 hours.

Thank you for breaking that down! So even best case I'm probably looking at tomorrow evening if I certified this morning? I just checked again and it's still on pending.

Congrats on getting your claim approved! The waiting game is the worst part. For me it was always super reliable - certified Sunday morning, showed paid Sunday night, money on card Monday by noon. But that was after the first payment went through.

Thanks! When you say "after the first payment" - was your first one delayed? How much longer did it take?

The EDD payment system is BROKEN!! I certified 3 weeks ago and still nothing! Called 57 times yesterday and couldn't get through - kept getting the "we're experiencing high call volume" message. When I finally got through today, they said I need an eligibility interview due to my job separation but couldn't tell me when it would be scheduled!!! The whole system is designed to make people give up. Meanwhile they expect us to pay rent and buy food with WHAT EXACTLY???

Sorry you're going through that. It sounds like your claim has a specific issue that's different from what OP is asking about. For a standard certification without eligibility issues, the timeline is much faster than what you're experiencing.

I had the same question when I first started my claim in January. For regular certifications WITH NO ISSUES, here's what happens: - If you certify on Sunday morning, it usually switches to "paid" status by Monday morning - The funds are typically on your Money Network card by Tuesday morning For your first payment ever, add about 1 extra day to that timeline. HOWEVER, if your certification stays "pending" for more than 48 hours, something might need review. That's when you should call EDD to find out what's happening. Getting through to them is nearly impossible with regular calling though. I highly recommend using Claimyr.com to get through to an EDD agent quickly. It saved me so much frustration when I had a pending payment issue. You can see how it works here: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km Good luck with your rent - hope the timing works out!

Thanks for the detailed info! If it stays pending past tomorrow I might try that service. Did you have to wait extra time for your first payment?

anyone know what happens if you certify late? i forgot to do mine sunday and just did it today (wednesday). will that delay payment even more?

It shouldn't delay the standard processing time once you've submitted it, but you're starting that clock later. So instead of potentially having money by Tuesday, you might be looking at Friday or the weekend.

UPDATE: My status just changed to PAID! That was about 36 hours after I certified. Does anyone know how long until it actually hits my Money Network card now?

Great news! You should see the deposit on your card within 24 hours, sometimes as quick as 9-10 hours. Your money will likely be there tomorrow morning!

Don't forget you can set up alerts on your Money Network account to get a text when deposits hit! Saved me so much anxiety from constantly checking.

Oh that's super helpful! I'll set that up right now. Thanks for the tip!

FINAL UPDATE: Money was on my card this morning! So total timeline: certified Sunday morning → status changed to paid Monday evening → money on card Wednesday morning. About 2.5 days total. Thanks everyone for your help! I was so worried I'd miss rent.
