EDD certification at midnight Monday - when will payment show as 'paid'?

I just certified for my weeks late last night (Monday at midnight exactly). This is only my second time certifying after getting approved for unemployment benefits. The first time I certified, it took almost a week to change from pending to paid! I'm getting really anxious because rent is due soon and I need to know when I can expect this money to hit my Money Network card. Does anyone know how long it typically takes for the EDD website to update the payment status from pending to paid when you certify right at the Monday midnight deadline? Do weekday certifications process faster than weekend ones? Thanks in advance for any help!

Typically EDD processes certifications submitted during the midnight-3AM window within 24-48 hours. Since you certified right at midnight Monday, your payment status should change to "paid" by Wednesday morning in most cases. The system processes certifications in batches, and midnight submissions usually get included in the first batch processing. Once it shows "paid" on the website, it takes another 24-48 hours before funds actually appear on your Money Network card.

Thank you so much! That's a relief to hear. So basically I should see it change to paid tomorrow and then have the money by Thursday or Friday? That timing would be perfect for my rent payment.

That's really helpful to know! I'll keep checking the website throughout today and tomorrow then. Fingers crossed it follows that timeline!

What if it DOESN'T show as paid?? I certified at midnight two weeks ago and mine got STUCK in pending for 5 DAYS!!! Had to call EDD like 47 times before someone picked up!!! They said there was a "quarterly review flag" on my account whatever THAT means!!! The whole system is DESIGNED to make us suffer!!

not everyone has that experience tho. ive been on unemployment 3 months and my payments always process in like 2 days max. maybe you had some issue with your work search requirements or something? or income verification?

No I did EVERYTHING right!! They just randomly flag accounts to make people WAIT!! The lady even admitted they were behind on processing claims!!! Total garbage system!!!

If you certified exactly at midnight Monday, you should see it change to paid status by Wednesday morning in most cases, sometimes even by Tuesday afternoon. The EDD computer system runs batch processes overnight that handle certifications. However, there are a few things that could delay this standard timeline: 1. If this is a new claim year for you 2. If you reported any earnings during certification 3. If you answered "no" to being available for work 4. If there's a quarterly income review happening Once it shows as paid in the system, it typically takes 24-48 hours for the funds to be deposited on your Money Network card. So if everything goes smoothly, you'd have the money by Thursday or Friday. If it stays pending beyond Wednesday, that's when you might want to contact EDD directly as there could be an issue requiring attention.

I did report some part-time earnings this certification - about $120 from a small gig job. Will that definitely delay things? I answered yes to being available for work and looking for work, so hopefully that part won't cause problems.

Reporting earnings sometimes causes a delay, but not always. The system has to calculate your partial benefit amount based on those earnings. In many cases, if the earnings are clearly under your allowed threshold (usually around 1.33x your weekly benefit amount), it processes normally. Since $120 is fairly low, you might still see it process within the normal timeframe. Just be aware it could take an extra day.

I had the EXACT same problem last month trying to get through to EDD after my payment was stuck in pending for days with no explanation. After trying the regular number for hours, I finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) to get through to an agent directly. They have a system that helps you bypass the usual wait times and connects you with an EDD rep. There's a video that shows how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km The agent was able to immediately see that my claim had a simple flag that needed to be removed. The whole thing was resolved in one 10-minute call, and my payment switched to paid that same day.

Thanks for the suggestion! I'm hoping mine processes normally, but if it stays pending I'll definitely check out that service. I've heard the regular EDD phone lines are nearly impossible to get through on.

i used that too when i couldn't get thru!! worked really good actually

Not to change the subject but does anyone know if the payment schedule is different for disability? My cousin is on SDI not UI and his payments never seem to come on the same schedule as mine even when we certify on the same day. Makes family budget planning so confusing!

SDI and UI operate on completely different systems and payment schedules. SDI payments aren't tied to the same certification calendar as UI. For UI, certification periods are set bi-weekly, while SDI typically processes payments after doctor certifications which follow their own timeline. They shouldn't really be compared as they're entirely separate programs with different funding sources and administrative processes.

That seems to be the consensus - Tuesday or Wednesday for the status change, and then money 1-2 days after that. Thanks for sharing your experience!

Just checking back - has your payment status changed to paid yet? It's Tuesday evening now, so based on the typical timeline we discussed, you might see movement on your claim.

Yes! It just switched to paid about an hour ago! The EDD website now shows the payment processing date as today (Tuesday). Such a relief! Now just waiting for it to hit my Money Network card, hopefully by Thursday as everyone suggested. Thanks for checking in!

Great news! Yes, with a Tuesday processing date, you should see the funds on your Money Network card by Thursday, possibly even tomorrow afternoon. The Money Network system usually updates overnight, so your funds will likely be available when you wake up Thursday morning at the latest.

Congratulations on getting it switched to paid status! That's exactly the timeline most of us experience. Since you mentioned reporting $120 in earnings, it's good to see that didn't cause any delays - that amount is typically well under the threshold that would affect processing. You should definitely have your funds by Thursday morning, and possibly even Wednesday night depending on when Money Network processes their batch updates. Keep us posted on when it actually hits your card - it helps other members know what to expect!

Thanks for the encouragement! I'm definitely relieved that the part-time earnings didn't slow things down. I was worried about that since it was my first time reporting any income while on unemployment. I'll definitely update everyone once the money actually shows up on my card - it's so helpful to have real timelines from people who've been through this process before. This community has been a lifesaver for navigating all the EDD uncertainties!

Just wanted to chime in as someone who's been on unemployment for about 6 months now - your experience sounds totally normal! I've certified at midnight Monday probably 20+ times and the pattern is almost always the same: status changes to paid by Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning, then money hits the Money Network card 24-48 hours after that. The fact that you reported some part-time earnings and it still processed normally is actually a good sign - it means your claim is in good standing and the system is handling everything automatically. One tip I learned: if you ever need to check your card balance before the money shows up, you can call the Money Network customer service line and they can sometimes see pending deposits before they're actually available to spend. Hope this helps ease some of the anxiety!

This is so reassuring to hear from someone with 6+ months of experience! I was definitely anxious about the whole process since I'm still so new to all this. That tip about calling Money Network to check for pending deposits is really helpful - I had no idea they could see that information before it shows up in my account. It's amazing how much stress can be avoided just by knowing what's normal vs what might be a problem. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience!

I've been through this exact same scenario multiple times and wanted to share what I've learned! When you certify right at midnight Monday, the EDD system typically processes those submissions in the first batch, which usually means your status will change to "paid" by Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning. Since you mentioned this is only your second certification, I totally understand the anxiety - I was the same way when I started! The good news is that once you see a few cycles, the timing becomes pretty predictable. One thing that really helped me was setting up text notifications through the EDD website so I get alerts when my payment status changes. That way I don't have to keep checking obsessively. Also, even though your payment shows as "paid" on the EDD site, don't panic if it takes another day or two to hit your Money Network card - that's completely normal processing time between the two systems. You should definitely have your funds by Thursday for rent!

This is such helpful advice! I had no idea about the text notification feature - I'm definitely going to set that up right away. It would save me from constantly refreshing the EDD website every few hours like I've been doing. The reassurance about the timing between EDD showing "paid" and Money Network actually having the funds available is exactly what I needed to hear. I was starting to worry that there might be another delay even after it shows as paid. Thanks for sharing your experience - it really helps to know this process gets more predictable once you've been through it a few times!

Hey Emma! Just wanted to add my experience to all the helpful info you've already gotten. I've been certifying for about 4 months now and the midnight Monday certification almost always processes smoothly within 24-48 hours like everyone mentioned. Since you reported $120 in part-time work, that's actually a really good thing - it shows you're actively looking for work and EDD typically processes those without issues as long as it's under your weekly benefit amount. One thing I learned that might help with your anxiety: after your first few certifications go smoothly, you start to trust the process more. The EDD system, despite all its flaws, is pretty consistent with the basic payment timeline when there are no red flags on your account. You should definitely have your rent money by Thursday! And don't worry about reporting small amounts of part-time income - I do it regularly and it rarely causes delays.

Thanks so much Darren! It's really reassuring to hear from someone who regularly reports part-time income without issues. I was definitely overthinking that part since it was my first time reporting earnings. You're right that the anxiety should get better once I see the process work consistently a few times. I'm already feeling much more confident about the whole system after everyone's helpful responses here. It's such a relief to know that $120 is well within the normal range and shouldn't cause problems. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience!

As someone who's been on unemployment for about 8 months now, I can confirm what everyone else is saying about the midnight Monday certification timeline! The key thing to remember is that EDD processes certifications in batches, and midnight submissions usually get priority in the first batch. Since your payment already switched to "paid" status on Tuesday, you're right on track for the typical timeline. One thing I'll add that might help for future certifications: I always screenshot my certification confirmation page and the "paid" status when it updates, just in case there are ever any discrepancies later. It's saved me once when there was a system glitch. Also, if you're ever worried about timing in the future, you can usually certify a few hours before midnight on Sunday night and still get the same processing speed - you don't have to wait until exactly midnight. Your Money Network card should definitely have the funds by Thursday morning at the latest. In my experience, Wednesday night deposits are pretty common too, so you might even get lucky and see it tomorrow evening!

That's really smart advice about taking screenshots! I never thought about documenting the process like that, but it makes total sense to have proof just in case something goes wrong later. And I had no idea you could certify a few hours early on Sunday night - that's actually really helpful to know for future weeks when I might not be able to stay up until midnight on Monday. Thanks for sharing your 8 months of experience with this! It's so reassuring to hear from people who've been through this process many times. I'm definitely feeling much more confident about the whole system now.

I've been following this thread and wanted to add my experience since I'm also relatively new to the EDD system - been on unemployment for about 2 months now. The anxiety you felt about your first few certifications is so relatable! I remember refreshing the EDD website constantly after my first certification, not knowing what was normal timing. What I've learned is that midnight Monday certifications really do process the most consistently. I've tried certifying at different times and the midnight submissions always seem to get into that priority batch everyone mentions. Since your payment already switched to "paid" on Tuesday, you're experiencing the exact timeline that most of us see regularly. One thing that helped reduce my stress was realizing that EDD's system, while frustrating in many ways, is actually pretty reliable for the basic payment processing when there are no flags on your account. The fact that you reported part-time earnings and it still processed normally is a really good sign that your claim is in good standing. You should definitely have your money by Thursday for rent - I'd even bet on Wednesday evening based on the timeline you're describing! Keep us updated when it hits your Money Network card. These real-world timing examples are super helpful for other newcomers to the system.

I'm so glad I found this thread! I'm brand new to the EDD system - literally just got approved last week and this will be my first certification this Monday. Reading everyone's experiences here has been incredibly helpful and reassuring. I was really nervous about the whole process, especially about timing and when to expect payments. It sounds like certifying right at midnight Monday is the way to go for the fastest processing. I don't have any part-time income to report yet, so hopefully my first certification will be even more straightforward. Thanks to everyone who shared their timelines - it really helps us newcomers know what to expect instead of just worrying about the unknown!
