EDD payment delay after certification - normal wait time?

I certified for unemployment benefits on Sunday morning around 8am, but still haven't received any payment to my Money Network card. It's now Wednesday and I'm getting really worried since my rent is due next week. Is this normal? The EDD website just shows my certification as "received" but nothing about payment processing. For my first payment back in January, it only took like 24 hours to hit my account. Anyone know how long it typically takes for EDD to process payment after certification? Do weekends count in the processing time? This waiting game is making me super anxious.

it usually takes 2-3 business days after certifying. weekends dont count. so if u certified sunday, wednesday is just the 3rd day. check again tomorrow, it shud be there

Thanks! That makes me feel a bit better. I'll try to be patient and check again tomorrow morning.

Payment timing can vary based on several factors. Generally, if your claim is in good standing with no pending issues, you should see payment within 24-48 hours after certification (excluding weekends and holidays). However, if this is a subsequent certification and taking longer than your first payment, it could indicate something triggered a review. Check your UI Online homepage for any notifications or tasks that might need attention. Also, make sure you answered all certification questions correctly - a single mistake can delay payment while EDD investigates.

Oh no, now I'm worried there might be an issue. I did work one day last week (just 6 hours) and reported those earnings. Could that have triggered a review? There aren't any new notifications in my UI Online account though.

Same thing happened to me last month!! I was FREAKING OUT thinking I did something wrong but then the money just showed up on day 4. EDD is so inconsistent it drives me crazy. One week it's super fast then the next it takes forever for literally no reason!!!

That's reassuring to hear it's not just me. I'll give it one more day then. The inconsistency is definitely stressful!

If you reported earnings in your certification, that often adds an extra day to processing time as they need to recalculate your benefit amount. The system needs to verify the income you reported against your weekly benefit amount and make appropriate adjustments. Check the Transaction Activity in the Payments section of your UI Online account - sometimes payments are processed but haven't been transferred to your Money Network card yet. If by Friday you still don't see anything, there might be an issue worth investigating further.

Just checked and you're right! It shows as "paid" in the transaction activity but not on my card yet. That's a relief. Hopefully it transfers soon.

I had a similar issue a few weeks ago and after waiting 5 days I tried calling EDD but kept getting the "we're experiencing high call volume" message and it would hang up on me. SO FRUSTRATING!! I finally used a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me through to an actual EDD representative within 20 minutes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km. The rep told me there was a flag on my account that needed to be cleared. Might be worth a try if your payment doesn't show up by Friday.

Omg does that service actually work?? I've tried calling EDD like 50 times in one day before and NEVER got through. How much did it cost?

Yeah it actually works! I was skeptical too but was desperate. They don't make the call for you - they just help you get in the queue so an EDD rep actually picks up. Saved me hours of frustration.

the EDD payment system is a joke. sometimes i get paid in 24 hrs and other times it takes a FULL WEEK with zero explanation. and good luck getting answers from anyone there. the whole system is designed to make you give up. they WANT you to get frustrated and stop claiming

While I understand the frustration, it's important to clarify that payment delays are typically due to system volume, verification processes, or technical issues rather than intentional obstruction. The certification system processes millions of claims. If you consistently experience unusual delays (more than 5 business days), it's worth investigating potential account-specific issues by contacting EDD directly.

My sister works for bank of america and she told me that the edd payment transfers usually process in batches and sometimes your certification can just miss the cutoff time for a particular batch which adds another day. its stupid but thats how their system works apparently

That's interesting! I did certify pretty early on Sunday, but maybe there was some other delay in the system. Just checked again and the money FINALLY hit my card this morning. Thanks everyone for the help!

Glad to hear your payment came through! For future reference, here's a general EDD payment timeline: 1. Certification submitted (day 0) 2. EDD processes certification (1-2 business days) 3. Payment issued to Bank of America/Money Network (1 business day) 4. Funds available on card (0-1 business day) Total: 2-4 business days on average, but can be faster or slower depending on various factors. Reporting earnings, answering 'yes' to certain questions, or having a partial payment week can all extend this timeline.

Thanks for breaking down the timeline! It's helpful to know what to expect. I'll save this info for future reference.
