Money Network card shows zero balance despite 'Paid' status on EDD - is this normal?

I certified for unemployment yesterday (Sunday) and checked my EDD portal which shows 'Paid' status for my weeks, but I'm confused because my Money Network EDD card account still shows $0 balance today. This is my first time using the Money Network card system and I'm totally lost. Is this delay normal? Does it usually take a day or two for funds to appear on the card after showing 'Paid' in the portal? \n\nI'm seriously considering switching to paper checks at this point because I've seen so many horror stories about the Money Network cards. Has anyone else dealt with this timing issue between EDD showing 'Paid' and the money actually showing up on the card? Any advice would be really helpful because I have bills due this week.

This is completely normal! There's always a 24-48 hour delay between when EDD shows \

Thank you so much for this info! That's a relief to hear. I'll check again tomorrow afternoon then. Do you know if weekends/holidays affect the timing at all?

DON'T GET ME STARTED on those Money Network cards!! Complete NIGHTMARE from day one!! I've had nothing but problems - random holds, website down half the time, customer service that doesn't know ANYTHING!!! I switched to paper checks after 2 months and it's been SO MUCH BETTER. Takes a little longer but at least I actually GET MY MONEY without the stress!!!

I had the opposite experience. Paper checks were taking forever to arrive in my mailbox (once took almost 2 weeks!), and then I had to physically go to the bank. The Money Network card has been fine for me for the past 3 months. Different strokes I guess.

This is a common question! The Money Network card typically receives the funds 1-2 business days after your claim shows

my brother had UI last yr and said check was better cuz he got charged fees at ATMs with the card thingy

There are ways to avoid those fees! You can use Money Network ATMs for free (there's a locator in the app), transfer funds to your personal bank account for free, or get cash back when making purchases. But yes, if you use non-network ATMs, the fees can add up quickly.

Thanks for sharing this! I'll give it another day before I start panicking then. But good to know about that service if I do need to call them. The EDD phone system is absolutely maddening.

You can check your Money Network balance by:\n1. Creating an account at moneynetwork.com/edd\n2. Downloading the Money Network app\n3. Calling the number on the back of your card\n4. Checking at an ATM (though some charge fees)\n\nThe website/app are definitely the easiest ways to keep track of your balance and transaction history!

UPDATE: Just wanted to let everyone know that the money showed up on my Money Network card this morning! It took about 36 hours from when the status changed to \

Great to hear! Yes, that 24-48 hour window is pretty standard. Now that you know what to expect, future certifications should be less stressful. Be sure to set up direct deposit from your Money Network account to your personal bank account if you prefer having the funds there instead of on the card.

Glad to see your update worked out! For future reference, I've found that certifying early in the week (Monday/Tuesday) tends to process faster than weekend certifications. The delay you experienced is totally normal - I've been using the Money Network card for about 6 months now and it's always that 1-2 day window. One tip: if you set up text notifications through the Money Network app, you'll get an alert as soon as the deposit hits, which saves you from constantly checking the balance!
