EDD direct deposit to Money Network card taking forever - normal wait time?
Hey everyone, I just switched from paper checks to the Money Network debit card for my UI benefits. My latest certification was processed 4 days ago, but I'm still waiting for the deposit to hit my new card. My online account shows 'paid' but the card balance shows $0. This is my first time using the card system instead of paper checks, which usually arrived within 5-6 days. How long does it typically take for funds to appear on the Money Network card after EDD shows 'paid' status? I'm getting worried since my rent is due next week and I've already told my landlord the money is coming. Anyone gone through this direct deposit switch recently?

•A week?? That's ridiculous. The website said 1-2 business days after payment is processed. Did you have to activate anything special on the card besides the initial setup?

The first deposit to your Money Network card typically takes 3-5 business days after the payment shows as 'paid' in your UI Online account. This is because they're establishing the connection between your claim and the new payment method. After that initial deposit, future payments should appear within 24-48 hours of showing 'paid' status. Did you fully activate your card when you received it? Sometimes that can cause delays if the activation wasn't completed properly.

•Thanks for the info! Yes, I activated it immediately when it arrived about 2 weeks ago. Called the number on the sticker, set up my PIN, and even created the online account to check my balance. I guess I'll give it until the end of the week before I really start to panic. Just tight on cash and was counting on that deposit.

When I switched to the Money Network card last year, my first payment took 9 days to show up!!! I was FREAKING OUT thinking the money disappeared. Called EDD like 50 times but couldn't get through. After the first payment though, all the others came through in like 1-2 days tops. Just FYI for your future payments!

•This happened to my boyfriend too! His first payment took forever but then it was super fast after that. The EDD and Bank of America really need to communicate better about these things instead of leaving people hanging.

I had this exact problem last month. I switched payment methods and then my money was in limbo for almost two weeks! I kept checking the card balance every hour like a crazy person. Have you tried calling the Money Network customer service? They weren't very helpful for me, just kept saying "it's processing" but maybe you'll have better luck.

•Two weeks?? That's insane. I haven't called Money Network yet - I tried calling EDD first but couldn't get through to a real person. I'll try the card's customer service tomorrow morning. Did your money eventually show up without you having to do anything special?

•Yeah it eventually showed up with no explanation. But man those two weeks were stressful. I had bills due and was getting low on groceries. The Money Network people just kept saying it was an EDD issue, and EDD is impossible to reach so... 🤷♀️

I used to work at Bank of America handling EDD cards (before Money Network took over). Here's what's likely happening: Your payment was processed, but the first deposit to a new card requires additional verification steps in their system. This is actually a security feature to prevent fraud. Two things you should do: 1. Check that your address in UI Online matches exactly what you provided when you set up the card 2. Make sure you completed ALL the card activation steps (some people miss the step where you have to create the online account) If you've done both of these things, it's just a waiting game. First deposits typically take 4-7 business days. If it goes beyond 7 business days, you should contact EDD directly.

•Thank you for the insider insight! That makes me feel better. My addresses definitely match, and I did complete all the activation steps including setting up the online account (that's how I know my balance is still $0). I guess I'll just have to be patient and wait a few more days.

If you need to talk to an actual EDD representative about this (which I'd recommend if it's been more than 7 business days), try using Claimyr. I was in a similar situation and couldn't get through the phone system for days. Claimyr got me connected to an EDD agent in about 20 minutes who fixed my direct deposit issue. Their service basically navigates EDD's phone system for you. Saved me days of frustration. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km and their site is claimyr.com if you want to check it out.

•Never heard of this service before. Is it legit? Seems weird to pay someone to call EDD for me, but at this point I'm desperate enough to try almost anything if my money doesn't show up soon.

•It's definitely legit. They don't call for you - they just navigate through the phone tree and wait on hold, then connect you directly to an EDD rep when one becomes available. I was skeptical too but it worked. You still talk to EDD yourself, they just handle the impossible part of getting through.

When I first switched to the card my deposit was delayed too. But here's a tip - once your payment status says "paid" in UI Online, you can call the Money Network automated system (number on back of your card) and even if your balance shows $0 online, sometimes the automated phone system will give you the correct updated balance before the website does. Worth a try!

•That's a great tip! I'll try calling the automated system right now. Fingers crossed!

•Just called and still showing $0 balance through the automated system too. 😞 Guess I'll just have to keep waiting.

Anyone else think it's ridiculous that in 2025 it still takes DAYS for electronic transfers to process?? Like seriously, I can Venmo money to a friend instantly but somehow government benefits take a week? Make it make sense.

Quick update for anyone following this thread - I just called EDD this morning about a similar issue (new Money Network card, different problem). The agent told me they're currently experiencing a 5-7 business day delay on first-time direct deposits to Money Network cards due to a system update they're implementing. This is temporary but affecting all new card users. So if you're in this situation, expect some extra days before your first deposit appears.

•Thank you SO MUCH for this update! At least now I know it's a system-wide issue and not something specific to my claim. I'll wait a few more days before getting too worried. Really appreciate you coming back to share this info!

UPDATE: My payment finally posted to my Money Network card this morning! It took exactly 7 business days from when my UI Online account showed 'paid' status. Thanks everyone for your help and advice. For anyone else switching to the debit card method, definitely plan for at least a week delay on that first payment!

•Great news! And yes, always good to plan for that delay on the first payment. Future payments should be much faster now that the link is established between your claim and the card.
