Direct deposit taking 5+ days while EDD debit card was next-day - bank dependent?

Just switched to EDD's direct deposit option after years of using the Money Network debit card, and I'm starting to regret it. It's been 5 days since I certified and my payment is still showing as 'paid' on UI Online but the money hasn't hit my bank account! With the debit card, funds were always available the next day after certification. Is this normal for direct deposit? How long have others waited? Does it make a difference which bank you use? I'm with Wells Fargo if that matters. Starting to get anxious since rent is due next week and I was counting on this payment.

Direct deposit typically takes 1-3 business days after the payment shows as 'paid' in UI Online. The first payment after switching to direct deposit often takes longer since the system is processing your bank details for the first time. I'm with Chase and usually get mine in 2 business days. Keep in mind that weekends and holidays don't count as business days, so if you certified on Friday, it might not arrive until Wednesday or Thursday.

Thanks for the info! No one explained the first payment would take longer. Should have kept the card until after rent was due... Guess I'll wait until tomorrow before really panicking.

mine takes 24 hrs with credit union. big banks r always slower, switch 2 a credit union & you'll get it faster

Really? That's good to know. Maybe I'll look into switching banks after this gets sorted out.

Just to add some context here - the EDD payment system first sends the funds through ACH transfer which can vary in processing time depending on your financial institution. The Money Network debit cards are faster because funds are loaded directly onto the card within the EDD's closed system. I've noticed patterns with different banks: - Credit unions: 1-2 business days - Online banks (Ally, Chime): 1-2 business days - Major banks (Wells Fargo, BofA, Chase): 2-4 business days Also, if this is your first direct deposit payment, there's often a verification period that adds 1-2 days. Subsequent payments should be faster. You can always switch back to the debit card through your UI Online account if direct deposit isn't working well for you.

Is this accurate? My friend has Chase and says she gets hers in 1 day. I think its just EDD being slow not the banks!!!

I ABSOLUTELY HATE how EDD keeps changing systems without proper notice!!! I had the same issue when switching to direct deposit last month. My first payment took SIX DAYS to arrive!!! Called EDD and they said "it's normal" but how are we supposed to plan around this??? We have bills to pay!!! The system is designed to frustrate us, I swear.

Six days?? That's ridiculous. Did your subsequent payments come through faster at least?

Yes, after the first nightmare payment, the rest have been arriving in 2-3 days. Still not as fast as the debit card was though. EDD should have warned everyone about this!

This is important info that I wish EDD would put in their notices! I'm about to switch to direct deposit next certification and now I know to plan for a delay. Thanks for sharing your experience.

If you need to reach EDD to ask about your payment status, I'd recommend using Claimyr (claimyr.com). I spent days trying to get through EDD's phone system with no luck, then found this service that gets you connected to an EDD rep quickly. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km. Completely worth it when you're stressed about missing payments, especially with rent due.

does that rly work? ive tried calling edd like 20 times this week and keep getting the "too many callers" message

Yes, it does work. I was skeptical too but was desperate after trying for almost two weeks to get through. The service bypasses the usual phone queue.

I switched to direct deposit about 6 months ago and have been using it successfully since then. Here's what I've found: 1) The first payment does take longer (mine took 4 business days) 2) After that initial setup, my payments now arrive within 48 hours of showing 'paid' on UI Online 3) I'm with a credit union which seems to process ACH transfers faster than major banks One thing to check - make sure you entered your account and routing numbers correctly in UI Online. Even one digit wrong can cause delays or failed transfers. You can verify this under the 'Payment Methods' section of your UI Online account. If the information is correct, just be patient for this first payment, but the next ones should arrive more quickly.

I double-checked and the account info is correct. Based on everyone's feedback, it sounds like I just need to be patient with this first payment and expect 2-3 days for future ones. I'll definitely keep the credit union suggestion in mind too.

I had something similar happen last year with my bank (BofA). The first direct deposit took almost a week, but then it was pretty regular after that. My brother has a different bank (US Bank) and his always come faster than mine do. Definitely seems bank-dependent. The card is honestly easier in some ways but I like having everything in one account.

Good to hear it got more regular after the initial delay. How long do your payments typically take now with BofA?

0 coins

Usually 2-3 business days now. So if I certify Sunday, it shows paid Monday, and I usually have it by Wednesday or Thursday.

Update: The money finally hit my account this morning - took exactly 6 business days from when I certified. Thanks everyone for the info and reassurance. Going to stick with direct deposit for now since it sounds like future payments should be faster, but definitely good to know about the credit union option!
