EDD direct deposit setup not working - still receiving benefits on Money Network card

I updated my EDD payment method to direct deposit about 3 weeks ago right after completing my first certification. The system showed my bank info was accepted, but I just got my third payment and it's STILL going to the Money Network card instead of my checking account! I've double-checked everything in UI Online and my bank details look correct in the system. Has anyone else had this delay with direct deposit changes actually taking effect? I'm trying to avoid the ATM fees and hassle of transferring money from the card. Do I need to contact EDD directly to fix this or is there some waiting period I don't know about?

same thing happened to me last fall. it took like 2-3 payment cycles after i updated before it switched to direct deposit. EDD systems r slow to update payment preferences ugh

So it eventually switched over without you having to contact anyone? That's a relief, but still annoying. My rent's due next week and I was counting on having that money in my checking account.

There's typically a processing period when you switch from the Money Network card to direct deposit. The EDD website says to allow up to 3 payment cycles for the change to fully process in their system. If you've already received 3 payments and it's still going to the card, I'd recommend calling EDD to verify your bank information was entered correctly and that there are no flags on your direct deposit enrollment.

adding to this - make sure ur bank account # and routing # were entered correctly. i messed up ONE digit and had to wait another 3 weeks to get it fixed!!

I went through this exact situation in January. The problem was that I had updated my payment method during my certification week. According to the EDD representative I eventually spoke with, you need to make these changes at least 3 business days BEFORE your certification date for them to take effect for that payment cycle. Otherwise, it rolls over to the next one. If you've completed 3 certifications since making the change, definitely call EDD to check what's happening.

Oh that might be it! I did make the change right after certifying. That timing detail isn't mentioned anywhere on the website that I could find. Thanks for this insight.

I had the same problem with the calls but finally got through using Claimyr. It's a service that connects you with EDD without having to redial constantly. Saved me hours of frustration after trying for days to get through. They have a video showing how it works at https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km. When I finally got connected, the agent found that my direct deposit information wasn't properly saved in their system despite the confirmation message I received.

One thing nobody mentioned - you know you can transfer the funds from your Money Network card to your checking account through their website or app, right? It's free (no fees) and usually takes 2-3 business days. That's what I did while waiting for my direct deposit to kick in. Saved me from having to use ATMs or pay any fees.

Thank you! I actually didn't realize I could do that through their website. I thought the only option was the ATM or paying bills directly through their portal. I'll set that up while I wait for the direct deposit to start working.

Yeah but the app is always DOWN and the transaction history is sooo bad! And try getting help from their customer service 🙄 They put me on hold for 40 mins just to tell me they couldn't help with my question!!

Just to close the loop on this issue - for anyone reading this in the future: When changing from Money Network card to direct deposit, make sure to: 1) Enter your bank information at least 3 business days before your next certification, 2) Double-check all digits in your account and routing numbers, 3) Allow up to 3 payment cycles for the change to fully process, and 4) If it still hasn't changed after 3 payment cycles, contact EDD directly as there may be an issue with your account setup.

Thank you for this clear summary! I called EDD yesterday (took forever to get through) and found out my bank account was flagged for additional verification because my name on the account has my middle initial but my EDD profile doesn't. They cleared it and said my next payment should go to direct deposit. Sharing in case anyone else runs into this specific issue.

@Callum Savage That s'such a specific issue but makes total sense! Name mismatches are probably more common than people think. Good catch on EDD s'part to flag it for verification, even though it caused the delay. Hopefully this helps other people who might have similar name discrepancies between their bank account and EDD profile.

This thread is super helpful! I'm dealing with the exact same issue right now - made the switch to direct deposit 2 weeks ago and just got my second payment on the card still. Based on what everyone's saying, sounds like I need to wait one more payment cycle before calling EDD. The timing thing about making changes 3 days before certification is really important info that definitely should be more visible on their website!

@ThunderBolt7 Totally agree about the website not making that timing info clear enough! I had no idea about the 3-day rule until someone mentioned it here. One thing I'd add - when you do call EDD (if it comes to that), have your account number, social, and bank routing/account info ready. The rep I talked to was able to verify everything quickly once I had all that info handy. Fingers crossed your third payment goes through direct deposit!

Pro tip for anyone still waiting for their direct deposit to switch over - you can actually set up automatic transfers from your Money Network card to your bank account! Log into their website, go to "Move Money" and set up a recurring transfer for the day after you usually get paid. That way you don't have to remember to do it manually each time. I did this while waiting for my direct deposit issue to get resolved and it saved me so much hassle. The transfers are free and usually hit your bank account within 2-3 business days.

This is genius! I had no idea you could set up automatic transfers from the Money Network card. I've been manually transferring every time which is such a pain to remember. Just logged in and set this up - thanks for sharing this tip! This will definitely make the transition period so much easier while waiting for EDD to get their act together with the direct deposit switch.
