How long does EDD take to deposit after switching to direct deposit?
I finally got fed up with the Money Network card delays and switched to direct deposit through UI Online yesterday. My next certification/payment is scheduled for next Monday. Does anyone know how long it typically takes for EDD to process the direct deposit change? Will my Monday payment still go to my old card or will it go to my bank account? This is my first time changing payment methods mid-claim and I'm worried about delays since my rent is due soon. I'm already cutting it close with my budget this month.

mine took like 3 business days to switch over when i did it last month. the website said it could take up to 3-5 days for the change to fully process. u might get ur monday payment on the card still if u just did the switch yesterday

•Thanks for the quick response! So there's a chance I'll still get this payment on the card? I was hoping to avoid having to use that thing again. Do you remember if EDD sent you any kind of confirmation when the direct deposit was fully set up?

When you switch your payment method, EDD requires about 3-5 business days to process the change. Since you just made the change yesterday and your payment is due Monday, there's a high probability your funds will be deposited to your Money Network card one last time. Future payments after that should go to your direct deposit account. Make sure all your banking information was entered correctly - even one wrong digit can cause significant delays. Also, double-check your account status in UI Online to ensure the change is processing.

•I just checked and everything looks correct with my bank info. I guess I'll have to access the Money Network card one more time. At least direct deposit will be working for my next payment cycle. Thanks for the detailed explanation!

ANYTHING is better than that stupid Money Network card!! Mine got lost in the mail TWICE and then when I finally got it, the ATM ate it when I tried to withdraw my funds. EDD's whole payment system is designed to make us suffer I swear!!

•OMG I had the EXACT same issue!!! Card never arrived after 3 weeks then they said they'd send a replacement but that never came either. Had to call them like 20 times just to get my money. The direct deposit is way better trust me.

I switched to direct deposit back in February, and it took exactly 3 business days for the system to update. Your Monday payment will likely go to the card since the processing time won't be complete yet. One thing to note - when payments go to direct deposit, they typically arrive 1-2 days faster than the card method once the system is set up. I'd recommend keeping both payment methods accessible until you confirm the switch is complete. If you're concerned about timing for your rent, I suggest calling EDD directly to confirm your payment method status. I used Claimyr.com to get through to an EDD representative when I had a similar concern. Their service connects you with an EDD agent much faster than calling directly. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km that shows how it works. Helped me avoid a lot of frustration with the endless busy signals.

•Thank you for the detailed timeline! I'll keep both payment methods accessible like you suggested. I've been trying to call EDD for two days with no luck - just constant busy signals or getting disconnected. I'll check out that service you mentioned because I really need to confirm this before rent is due.

•With the Money Network card (default option), EDD loads your benefits onto a prepaid debit card that's mailed to you. With direct deposit, your benefits are transferred directly to your personal bank account. You can switch between methods in your UI Online account under "Payment Preferences." Direct deposit is generally faster once set up and more convenient for most people.

•You can switch to direct deposit anytime through UI Online, even if you've already been issued a card. Just be aware of the 3-5 business day processing time for the change to take effect, as discussed in this thread.

When I switched to direct deposit last year, my payment scheduled for that week went to my card, but all subsequent payments went to my bank account without any issues. If you just switched yesterday, I'd plan on your Monday payment going to the Money Network card, with all future ones going to your bank. Make sure you don't close your Money Network account immediately if you still have that one pending payment. Also, once your direct deposit is active, payments usually hit your account 1-2 days after certification if you certify on Sunday. It's much more reliable than the card system.

•That's great advice about not closing the Money Network account yet. I'll definitely keep it open until I'm sure all payments have cleared. The faster payment timeline with direct deposit sounds amazing - that's exactly why I wanted to switch!

I went through this EXACT same issue back in January. My payment did go to my card one last time when I switched, but after that the direct deposit worked perfectly! One thing nobody mentioned - make sure your bank doesn't have any holds on EDD deposits. My credit union put a 2-day hold on my first direct deposit which was super annoying since I was counting on that money right away. Might want to check with your bank about their policy on government deposits?

•That's a really good point I hadn't considered! I'll call my bank tomorrow to ask about their policy on government deposits. I definitely don't want any surprise holds when the money finally does come through. Thanks for the heads up!

btw if ur worried about ur rent being late cuz of this edd stuff just show ur landlord proof of ur claim. most of them r understanding these days with all the edd problems

•I hope so. My landlord hasn't been the most understanding person in the past, but it's worth a try if the payment is delayed. At this point I'm expecting to still get the Money Network payment on Monday or Tuesday based on what everyone's saying, which should be just in time.

Just wanted to follow up on this thread - has your payment method switch been completed yet? Did Monday's payment end up going to your card or your bank account? Curious to hear how it worked out since I'll be helping my brother set up direct deposit next week.

•Update: You all were right! Monday's payment went to my Money Network card as expected. I checked my UI Online account today and it now shows that direct deposit is fully active, so my next payment will go straight to my bank account. The whole process took exactly 4 business days from when I made the change. Thanks everyone for your help!

Glad to hear everything worked out smoothly for you! That 4-day timeline seems pretty consistent with what most people are experiencing. For anyone else considering the switch, it's definitely worth it in the long run - direct deposit is so much more reliable than dealing with those Money Network card issues. Just plan ahead for that one transition payment to still go to your old method.

•Thanks for sharing that update! I'm actually going through the same process right now - just switched to direct deposit two days ago. It's reassuring to hear it worked out smoothly for you. I was getting stressed about the timing but sounds like I just need to be patient for that transition period. The Money Network card has been such a headache with all the fees and delays, so I'm really looking forward to having direct deposit set up!

I went through this exact same situation about 6 months ago! The timing really depends on when EDD processes your request, but in my experience, if you switched yesterday and your payment is Monday, it will most likely still go to your Money Network card one last time. The direct deposit change typically takes 3-5 business days to fully process in their system. I'd recommend keeping both payment methods active until you see confirmation that the direct deposit is working. Also, once direct deposit kicks in, you'll notice payments arrive much faster - usually within 24-48 hours after certification instead of the longer wait times with the card. Hang in there, the switch is definitely worth it!

•This is really helpful to know! I'm in a similar situation where I just made the switch and was worried about the timing. It's good to hear that the faster payment processing with direct deposit makes such a difference - the wait times with the Money Network card have been brutal. Did you have any issues with your bank when the first direct deposit came through, or did it process smoothly? I want to make sure I don't run into any unexpected holds or complications when mine finally switches over.

•My first direct deposit went through without any issues at all! My bank (Chase) processed it just like any other deposit - no holds or delays. I think most major banks are pretty used to handling EDD payments these days. The only thing I'd suggest is maybe giving your bank a heads up that you're switching to direct deposit, just so they're aware to expect the deposits. But honestly, it was seamless for me. The relief of not having to deal with that Money Network card anymore was amazing - no more ATM fees, no more waiting for the card to arrive in the mail, and way faster access to your funds. You made the right choice switching!

I just switched to direct deposit last week and I'm still waiting for it to process too! Reading through all these responses is super helpful - sounds like the 3-5 business day timeline is pretty standard. I was getting anxious because my certification is coming up soon and I wasn't sure what to expect. It's reassuring to see that even if there's one more payment to the card, the direct deposit will kick in after that. The Money Network card has been such a pain with all the fees and delays, so I'm really looking forward to having my payments go straight to my bank account. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences!

•You're definitely not alone in dealing with this transition! I'm actually new to this whole process myself - just filed my first claim a couple weeks ago and was initially overwhelmed by all the payment method options. After reading through everyone's experiences here, it sounds like direct deposit is absolutely the way to go once it's set up. The Money Network card seems to cause nothing but headaches with fees, delays, and lost cards. I'm planning to switch to direct deposit as soon as my first payment comes through. Thanks to everyone for sharing such detailed timelines and tips - this thread has been incredibly helpful for understanding what to expect!

I made the switch to direct deposit about 8 months ago and it was honestly one of the best decisions I made during my unemployment period. The 3-5 business day processing time that everyone mentioned is spot on - my experience was exactly 4 business days. Your Monday payment will almost certainly still go to the Money Network card since you just switched yesterday, but after that you'll be golden. One tip I don't think anyone mentioned yet: make sure to screenshot or print your direct deposit confirmation page from UI Online once the change is complete. I had a situation where EDD's system glitched and temporarily reverted my payment method back to the card, and having that confirmation helped me get it sorted out quickly when I called. Also, the direct deposit payments typically hit your account around 11 PM - 2 AM Pacific time, so don't panic if you don't see it first thing in the morning after certification. The reliability and speed compared to that awful Money Network card is night and day!
