EDD debit card delay - approved 2 weeks ago but still no Money Network card in mail

I finally got my claim approved after a stressful eligibility interview (retail layoff), but it's been 2 weeks and still no sign of my debit card. My EDD account shows payments issued but I can't access the money without the card! Called the Money Network number and they confirmed a card was ordered but couldn't tell me when it would arrive. Is this normal? How long did others wait after approval to get their card? Starting to worry since I've got rent due next week and was counting on these funds.

It took almost 3 weeks for my card to arrive after my first payment was issued. Money Network is notorious for slow shipping. If your UI Online shows the payment as issued, the money is waiting for you - the system isn't great at telling you the card status. Make sure your address in UI Online is 100% correct. If it's been more than 10 business days, you can request a replacement card (though sometimes that ironically arrives after the original).

Thanks! That's a relief to hear it might be normal. My address is definitely correct in the system. I'll give it another week before requesting a replacement.

Same! And then when it finally came, the envelope was so plain I almost threw it away thinking it was junk mail! They should make those things more obvious ffs

You should try using Claimyr to reach an EDD rep directly about this. I was in the same situation and couldn't get through on the normal lines for DAYS. Used Claimyr (claimyr.com) and got connected to an agent in less than 20 minutes who expedited my card delivery. They have a video demo showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km The agent told me something interesting - apparently Money Network ships in batches, and sometimes your card can get stuck waiting for a full batch from your area. The EDD rep can flag it for individual shipping instead.

Thank you for this suggestion! I've been trying the normal number all week with no luck. I'll check out that service and video today - at this point I'm desperate to talk to someone who can actually help.

Does this Claimyr thing actually work? I'm always skeptical of third-party services for government stuff. Has anyone else tried it? Seems weird that we have to pay someone else just to talk to EDD when its their job to help us...

I've used it twice for different issues. It's legitimate and worked both times, though I wish we didn't need services like this. The reality is EDD's phone system is completely overwhelmed and most people can't get through otherwise. You're basically paying to skip the busy signals and hours of hold time.

If you're in a real bind with rent, you CAN go to Bank of America and get an emergency cash withdrawal from your EDD card even if you don't physically have the card yet. You need your ID and social security card, and they can verify your identity and allow a one-time withdrawal. I had to do this when my landlord wouldn't give me an extension. Not all bank branches know about this option though, so call ahead and ask to speak with a manager about EDD emergency withdrawal procedures.

This information is outdated. Bank of America no longer handles EDD cards as of 2022. Money Network (through their parent company Fiserv) is the current card provider. They don't offer emergency cash withdrawal services without the physical card. The only option with Money Network is to request expedited shipping on a replacement card, which costs $10 and typically takes 3 business days.

Important tip: Once you do get your Money Network card, immediately set up direct deposit to your bank account in the Money Network app or website. That way for future payments you won't have to wait for anything to arrive in the mail. Many people don't realize this is an option and keep using the debit card when they could just have funds deposited directly to their existing bank account within 1-2 days of certification.

That's really good to know! Will definitely set up direct deposit as soon as I get the card. Wish they made that option clearer during the application process.

is the money network card the green and white one or is that the old kind??? so confused with all these changes

The Money Network cards for California EDD are gray/silver with blue accents. The green and white cards were the old Bank of America EDD cards that were phased out in 2022. If you had unemployment before that switch, you would have had the BofA card.

When my husband got laid off last month, his card came EXACTLY 12 business days after approval. Not 11, not 13. I think they have some kind of policy where they won't even consider it "late" until after 12 business days. Such a stupid system when people are desperate for their benefits! Why can't they just email us a temporary virtual card or something while we wait for the physical one??

YES!! This is what I've been saying! In 2025 we should be able to get virtual cards immediately. Every other financial service can do this now. The EDD system is living in 2005.
