EDD SDI payment sent but no Money Network Card yet - normal wait time?
I got my first disability payment approved on April 26th (yay!!), but I still haven't received my Money Network debit card in the mail. The EDD website says it could take 7-14 business days for the card to arrive, but I'm getting anxious because my rent is due next week and I really need access to these funds. Is this normal wait time or should I be concerned? Has anyone recently received a new Money Network card and can tell me how long it actually took? This whole disability process has been so stressful and now I'm worried my payment is just sitting somewhere inaccessible to me!

Yes this is normal! Mine took exactly 12 business days to show up in March 2025. If you need your money faster I found this service called Claimyr that can connect you directly with an EDD rep to check on your card status or possibly expedite shipping. Their site is claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ?si=1hcSq3KFtCr4oAmd. I was desperate and tried it after waiting on hold for 3 hours with no luck. Got through to someone in 25 minutes who confirmed my card was already shipped.

•Thanks for the info! Did they charge you for the service? 12 business days feels like forever when bills are due, ugh. I might check out that video if I don't see the card by Monday.

The timeframe EDD quotes is accurate - 7-14 business days is standard for new Money Network cards. Remember that business days don't include weekends, so April 26th plus 14 business days would put you around May 14th as the latest expected arrival date. If you're in a bind with rent, you have a few options: 1. Call Money Network directly at 1-866-898-2213 to check if your card has been mailed and potentially request expedited shipping (for a fee) 2. Contact your EDD office and explain your situation - sometimes they can help 3. If you previously had a Money Network card and it's less than 3 years old, your new payment might be on that card instead Don't panic yet! This timeline is typical for first-time disability payments.

•THIS IS RIDICULOUS!! The EDD should NOT be making disabled people wait 2+ weeks for their MONEY!! I went through this EXACT same thing in January and had to borrow money from family to cover bills. The whole system is designed to make us suffer MORE when we're already dealing with health issues!!!

This is completely normal for first-time SDI payments. The Money Network card delivery timeline hasn't changed in years despite everything else going digital. Here's what you need to know: - First payments ALWAYS go to a debit card, even if you've set up direct deposit - The 7-14 business days is accurate (I work in HR and see this all the time) - Cards are mailed from their processing center in Ohio, so geography affects delivery time - You can call Money Network at 1-866-898-2213 to check status, but they won't expedite without a fee Once you receive and activate your card, I strongly recommend setting up direct deposit immediately for future payments. You can transfer the current funds to your bank account through the Money Network mobile app or website, usually within 1-3 business days for free. If you're in a serious financial bind, contact your landlord ASAP and explain the situation. Many will work with you if you can show proof of the approved disability payment.

•Thank you so much for all this detail! I didn't realize the cards come from Ohio - that explains the wait. I'll definitely set up direct deposit the minute I get that card. My landlord has been understanding so far, but I was hoping to avoid having that conversation. Guess I need to just be upfront about it.

mine took 10 days then the stupid thing came with my name spelled wrong and i had to call and get another one sent which took ANOTHER 2 weeks!! make sure u check ur name carefully when it arrives cuz they mess up all the time and the customer service for money network is horrible does anyone know if we can just go pick these up somewhere instead of waiting for mail? this system is so old fashioned

•Unfortunately, there's no way to pick up the cards in person. They're produced by a third-party vendor (Money Network/Fiserv), not by EDD directly. The cards aren't available at local EDD offices, which is definitely frustrating but just how the system works currently.

Update: My card finally arrived today! That was 11 business days total. Everything looks correct and I was able to activate it without any issues. For anyone else waiting, hang in there - the timeline they give is pretty accurate. I've already set up direct deposit for future payments too. Thanks everyone for your help and reassurance!

Glad to hear your card arrived safely! 11 business days is right in that normal range everyone mentioned. It's such a relief when you finally get access to your funds after all that waiting and stress. Smart move setting up direct deposit right away - that will save you so much anxiety for future payments. Thanks for updating us with the good news!

•So happy for you @Ethan Campbell! I'm actually going through this exact same situation right now - my first SDI payment was approved last week and I've been refreshing my mailbox daily like a crazy person. Reading through this whole thread has been super reassuring. It's wild how stressful the waiting period is when you're already dealing with being out of work due to disability. Definitely taking everyone's advice here and will set up direct deposit the second my card arrives!
