EDD took funds from locked BOA account, can't get status update or reach anyone. Help!

Hey everyone, I'm dealing with a frustrating situation with EDD and BOA. My dad had unemployment funds in his BOA account, but when EDD switched to Money Network, they told everyone to withdraw their money. Problem is, BOA locked his account for no reason, and he can't get his funds out. We've been to BOA in person multiple times to verify his identity, but they keep giving us the runaround. We finally got transaction statements, and it looks like EDD took the money back! We've called EDD, but they're not resolving anything. Has anyone else dealt with this? Any advice on how to get a status update or actually talk to someone who can help?

I found a way to solve EDD funds locked in BOA, watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g5YkBUEqzw8

Ugh, that sucks! I've been dealing with EDD bs for months now. It's like they purposely make everything confusing and impossible to resolve. Have you tried reaching out to your local assemblymember? Sometimes they can light a fire under EDD's ass and get things moving.

Thanks for the suggestion! I hadn't thought of contacting my assemblymember. Do you know how I'd go about doing that?

Just google your zip code + state assemblymember. Most have a form on their website for constituent services. Explain your situation and they usually have staff dedicated to helping with state agency issues. Good luck!

Awesome, I'll give that a shot. Fingers crossed it helps! 🤞

I feel your pain, OP. The EDD/BOA situation is a total clusterfuck. Here's what I'd recommend: 1. Document EVERYTHING. Every call, every visit, names of people you talk to. 2. File a formal complaint with both EDD and BOA. Sometimes this kicks it up to a higher level. 3. Contact the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) about BOA locking the account. 4. Reach out to your state representatives and senator. They can often intervene. 5. Consider contacting local media if all else fails. Sometimes public pressure works wonders. Stay persistent. It's a pain, but keep pushing until you get results. Good luck!

Wow, thank you so much for this detailed advice! I'll definitely start working through this list. Really appreciate you taking the time to help out.

This is solid advice right here 💯 I'd add one more thing: if you're on Twitter, try tweeting at EDD and BOA. Sometimes social media teams can escalate issues faster.

Good point about social media! And no problem, OP. We're all in this sinking ship together, might as well try to plug the holes lol

omg i had the EXACT same thing happen!!! its been 6 months and i still havent gotten my money back. EDD is useless, BOA is useless, im about ready to give up tbh 😭

6 months?! That's insane. I'm so sorry you're dealing with this too. Have you tried any of the suggestions others have mentioned here?

yeah ive tried everything except contacting my assemblymember. might give that a shot. this whole system is so broken its unreal

Not to be that guy, but are you sure EDD actually took the money? Could it have been fraud? I've heard of scammers targeting unemployment accounts. Might be worth checking into that angle too.

That's a good point, I hadn't considered that. The transaction statement shows EDD as the one who took it, but I guess it could be more complicated than that. I'll definitely look into it, thanks!

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone at EDD. There's this site called claimyr.com that has a calling tool. It dials through the phone menu, stays on hold, and then connects you when a live agent picks up. It costs $20, but it worked for me. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/0UZGuPWGErg

Sounds kinda scammy. Has anyone else tried this?

I get why you'd think that, but it's legit. I was skeptical too, but I was desperate after trying for weeks to get through. It really did work.

I've used it too. It's annoying that we have to pay to talk to EDD, but it beats wasting hours on hold.

0 coins

How does it work exactly? Do they just keep calling until they get through?

0 coins

Yeah, basically. They have some kind of system that navigates the phone tree and then waits on hold. When a real person picks up, it calls your phone to connect you. Saved me a ton of time and frustration.

This is why I always tell people to empty their BofA EDD accounts ASAP. They're notorious for randomly freezing accounts. Hope you get it sorted out soon, OP!

have u tried going karen on them? sometimes u gotta be the squeaky wheel to get the grease 🤷‍♀️ ask for supervisors, threaten to go to the media, make a scene (politely) at the bank. it sucks but sometimes it works

Lol, I'm usually not the 'make a scene' type, but at this point I'm getting desperate enough to try anything. Might have to channel my inner Karen 😂

do it!!! just remember to be polite but firm. good luck! 🍀

This is why we need a complete overhaul of the unemployment system. It's a joke that people have to jump through so many hoops just to get the benefits they're entitled to. Sorry you're dealing with this, OP.

Preach! 🙌 The whole system is designed to be as difficult and discouraging as possible. It's like they want people to give up.

Totally agree. We need to vote for politicians who will actually fix this mess instead of just talking about it.
