EDD BofA card info mismatch after switching from SDI to UI - anyone else?
I'm completely confused about what's happening with my husband's EDD benefits. He was on SDI for about 3 months, and recently filed for unemployment when his disability ended. The automated system told us funds were available on his Bank of America EDD card, but when we tried to use it, nothing worked! Called BofA customer service and they said none of his personal information matched what they had on file (SSN, DOB, address - NOTHING matched!). The agent could only verify him after we provided specific deposit amount info from a previous transaction. The BofA rep suggested closing the current card and reissuing under a new account, but that means delaying his payments by 7-10 days. The weird thing is, he successfully received about 6 weeks of disability payments on this same card with no issues! He always went to the bank in person and withdrew the funds immediately after deposit. Has anyone experienced something similar when transitioning from disability to unemployment? How could all his personal info suddenly not match? Is this an EDD issue or Bank of America problem?

This sounds like an account verification issue that happens sometimes when transitioning between different benefit types in the EDD system. The SDI and UI systems are actually separate databases within EDD, and occasionally personal information doesn't transfer correctly between them. When your husband filed for unemployment, it likely created a new record that somehow had discrepancies with his original info. The BofA rep's suggestion to reissue the card is probably the right approach, even though it's frustrating to wait. In the meantime, I'd recommend your husband call EDD directly to verify all his personal information is correct in BOTH systems - this could prevent future problems.

Thank you for explaining this! I didn't realize SDI and UI were separate systems. Do you know if calling EDD will actually help speed up getting the new card, or just prevent future issues? We're really depending on these funds.

omg this EXACT thing happened to my sister last year!! BofA said her info was all wrong and made her get a whole new card. took forever to get the money. EDD is such a mess honestly

Did they ever explain WHY it happened to your sister? Did she have to contact EDD separately or just deal with BofA?

The same thing happened to me but when I transitioned from UI to SDI and back to UI during my pregnancy complications. I think what happens is that EDD uses different claim ID numbers for different benefit types, and something gets messed up in the BofA verification system. When I called EDD, they confirmed all my information was correct in their system, but BofA still couldn't verify me. \n\nHere's what worked for me: I had to go to the EDD office in person with my ID and have them issue some kind of verification code that I then gave to BofA. Still took about 5 days to get the new card, but at least I could be confident it would work when it arrived. The most frustrating part was that nobody could explain WHY this happens!

Going in person is definitely the way to go when dealing with these kinds of issues. I always tell people to bring printed copies of all their documents too - claim numbers, award letters, everything. The EDD staff can usually fix these weird system problems if you're standing right in front of them, but trying to resolve it over the phone can be a nightmare.

If you're struggling to get through to an EDD representative to fix this issue, I'd recommend trying Claimyr (claimyr.com). They got me connected to an actual EDD agent in about 20 minutes after I'd been trying for days on my own. They have a video demo showing how it works: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ?si=1hcSq3KFtCr4oAmd\n\nFor your specific situation, you need to talk to someone in the UI department since that's where the current claim is. Make sure they verify all personal information and confirm it matches what BofA has on file. In my experience, these mismatches usually happen because of a typo or data entry error when the new claim was processed.

Does that service actually work? Seems kinda sketchy to pay someone just to call EDD for you...

It does work! I was skeptical too, but after spending three weeks trying to reach someone at EDD about my disability extension, I was desperate. They don't call for you - they just get you in the callback queue faster than you could on your own. Definitely worth it for me since I was about to miss a mortgage payment waiting for my benefits.

Thanks for the suggestion - might try this if we can't get it resolved in the next couple days. At this point I'm willing to try anything!

THE WHOLE EDD SYSTEM IS DESIGNED TO MAKE YOU GIVE UP!!! I had the EXACT same issue last year and spend HOURS on the phone going back and forth between EDD and Bank of America. Each one blamed the other!!! EDD said my info was correct in their system and BofA said they only use what EDD sends them. NOBODY TAKES RESPONSIBILITY!!! I ended up having to get my state senator's office involved before it got fixed. Good luck - you're gonna need it!!!!

Oh no, that sounds awful! How long did it take to get resolved after you contacted your state senator? I'm really hoping we don't have to go that route...

About 2 weeks after contacting my state senator's office, but at least someone was FINALLY working on my case. Before that I spent over a month getting nowhere on my own.

The state senator route can work really well. Their offices have dedicated EDD liaisons who can cut through the bureaucracy. I had to do this during the pandemic when my disability claim was stuck

Update on my earlier comment - I just remembered something important. When transitioning between benefit types, there's actually a specific form you can request called the \

This is so helpful! I'll definitely ask about this form when we call. Thank you so much for the detailed information!

Just wanted to add - make sure your husband checks that his personal information (especially his address) is EXACTLY the same on both claims. Even small differences like \

That's a great tip about checking the exact formatting! We did move about 8 months ago, so it's possible something got entered differently on the unemployment claim versus what was on file for disability. We'll double-check this.

I'm dealing with something similar right now! My wife transitioned from UI to SDI and now back to UI, and we're having the same Bank of America verification issues. What's really frustrating is that she's been using the same EDD card for over a year with no problems, and suddenly after filing the new UI claim, BofA says her information doesn't match. I called EDD yesterday and the representative told me this happens because when you file a new claim (even if it's the same benefit type you had before), it creates a completely new account in their system. Sometimes the personal information from your old claim doesn't transfer over correctly to the new one. The EDD rep suggested I request what they call a "benefit verification letter" that shows all the correct information on file, then take that to Bank of America. Has anyone tried this approach? I'm hoping it might be faster than waiting for a completely new card.
