EDD disability payments not showing up on existing BofA card after maternity leave claim approved

Hi everyone, I'm SO confused about my disability payments for maternity leave! I checked my EDD account yesterday and it shows my SDI payment was issued via direct deposit two days ago, but when I log into my Bank of America EDD card account, the balance is still only $2.15 from an old unemployment claim from 2023. I received this replacement card about a month ago for my old UI claim (they seriously mailed me a new card for $2.15... why??). My question is: Are maternity disability payments supposed to go onto the same BofA card I used for unemployment last year? Or will they send me a completely new card for SDI benefits? I'm getting really anxious because I need this money for baby expenses and my leave started 3 weeks ago. Anyone dealt with this SDI/UI card confusion before?

They should be using the same card for both UI and SDI payments. When I had my baby in 2024, my disability payments went onto the same BofA card I had used for unemployment the previous year. However, sometimes there can be a system disconnect if you haven't used the card in a while. I'd recommend checking if your address is updated in both your EDD SDI Online account AND your BofA prepaid account. If everything looks correct, you should call EDD to make sure they have the right payment method on file.

Thank you! I double-checked both accounts and my address is current in both places. Such a relief to hear they should use the same card though. I was worried I'd have to wait for a whole new card in the mail.

did u set up direct deposit to your regular bank account? cuz edd disability payments can go direct to your checking account not just the bofa card. might wanna check your regular bank too

Hmm I don't remember setting up direct deposit to my checking account, but maybe I did? I'll definitely check that too. Thanks for the suggestion!

Oh wow, that makes me feel better! Did it just randomly show up or did you have to do anything to get it resolved? I'm on day 3 of waiting now...

It literally just appeared on day 5! No explanation, no notification, just suddenly the money was there. SO frustrating that they show it as \

There's a technical explanation for what's happening here. When EDD processes SDI payments, they're handled through a different payment system than UI benefits, even though both ultimately use the BofA card. The lag time you're experiencing is because:\n\n1. EDD marks the payment as \

This is super helpful, thank you! It's only been 3 business days so I'll wait a bit longer before calling. My card isn't expired - it was just issued last month (for that tiny UI balance).

Listen, I've been through this nightmare with EDD multiple times. Their system is broken and trying to get a human on the phone is basically impossible. After wasting DAYS trying to reach someone at EDD about my disability payments last year, I found this service called Claimyr that got me through to an actual EDD agent in about 20 minutes. It costs money but honestly saved my sanity. You can see how it works at their website claimyr.com or check out their demo video at https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ?si=1hcSq3KFtCr4oAmd\n\nFor your specific issue, you definitely need to talk to an EDD agent because they can see exactly where your payment is in their system and why it might be delayed. Good luck with the new baby!

Thanks for the suggestion! If my payment doesn't show up by tomorrow, I'll definitely check it out. Getting through to an actual person sounds amazing right now.
