EDD SDI payment issued but nothing on old BofA card - will I get a new one?
I went on disability last year and received my SDI benefits on a Bank of America card. I just applied for disability again about 3 weeks ago for a different medical issue, and when I checked online today it shows they finally issued a payment to me (thank goodness!). But when I checked my old BofA card balance, there's nothing there! I'm freaking out a little - does EDD automatically send a new card for new disability claims? Or should the money have gone to my old card? Has anyone dealt with this recently? Need this money ASAP for rent!

Yes, they send a new card every time! I went thru the same thing in January. The old one doesnt work with new claims. u should get it in 7-10 days after payment shows as issued.

•Omg thank you for answering! Do you know if there's any way to speed it up? My landlord is NOT going to be happy about waiting another week...

That's actually not correct. EDD only sends a new card if your old one expired or if it's been more than 3 years since your last claim. Otherwise they reuse the same card. When did you last use your old card? And did you check that it hasn't expired? The expiration date is printed on the front.

•I just checked and my card expires in 2026, so that's not the issue. I last used it maybe 9 months ago when my previous disability claim ended. Does that mean something went wrong with my payment?

I work at a medical office that helps patients with disability, and I see this confusion all the time. What probably happened is one of three things: 1. There's a delay between when EDD shows payment as "issued" and when Bank of America actually loads it onto your card (typically 2-3 business days) 2. Your old card is still valid but might need to be reactivated (try calling the number on the back) 3. If you changed any personal information between claims (address, name, etc.), they might have automatically issued a new card I suggest calling Bank of America's EDD card department directly at 1-866-692-9374 to check the status. They can tell you exactly what's happening with your funds.

Had this EXACT same issue in March 2025! Called EDD every day for a week and kept getting disconnected or wait times over 3 hours. FINALLY I discovered Claimyr (claimyr.com) and they got me connected to an EDD agent in under 25 minutes. The agent explained that my address had a slight difference from my previous claim so they automatically issued a new card. They were able to expedite the new card delivery. Check out their demo video if you want to see how it works: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ?si=1hcSq3KFtCr4oAmd

•Is this legit? Sounds too good to be true. I've been trying to reach EDD for days about my certification issue.

•100% legit. I was super skeptical too but was desperate. They don't actually touch your EDD claim at all - they just help you skip the phone queue nightmare. Totally worth it for me since I was about to get evicted and needed answers ASAP.

UPDATE: I finally got through to someone at BofA! Turns out they DID issue a new card even though my old one wasn't expired. The rep said it's because there was a gap of more than 6 months between my claims. New card should arrive by next Tuesday. Thanks everyone for your help!

•Thanks for updating us! That's good to know about the 6-month gap policy - I hadn't heard that before. Glad you got it sorted out.

•That's correct - I should have mentioned the 6-month rule. Bank of America's contract with EDD specifies that cards inactive for 180+ days may require reissuance for security reasons. For future reference, if you need funds faster, you can request expedited shipping of the new card (2-3 business days instead of 7-10).

Wait so if I'm understanding all this correctly, does this mean every time someone goes on disability after being off it for a while, they automatically get a new card??? That seems so wasteful! Why can't they just use the same card forever like a regular debit card? The EDD system makes NO SENSE sometimes!!!

•It's actually a security measure. The EDD/BofA system deactivates cards after periods of inactivity to prevent fraud. While it might seem wasteful, disability fraud is unfortunately common, and this is one of their prevention methods. You can always request to have your funds directly deposited to your personal bank account instead of using the BofA card - just complete the Direct Deposit form on the SDI Online portal.
