EDD approved my disability but BofA card going to wrong address - help!
I'm in such a frustrating situation with my disability payments! My claim was finally approved (after waiting forever), but now I'm worried about actually getting my money. My Bank of America EDD debit card expired, and they need to send a new one. The problem is that when I checked my account on the BofA prepaid website, they still have my OLD address listed even though I used my CURRENT address when I filed my disability claim. I'm seriously stressing about where my new card will end up! I called Bank of America customer service and after waiting 45 minutes, they just told me to 'contact EDD' - yeah right, like that's easy to do! Does anyone know if EDD will send my card to the address I used on my disability application, or will it go to whatever address BofA has in their system? I really can't afford to have my card lost in the mail right now.

Unfortunately, Bank of America handles the debit card distribution separately from EDD. Even if EDD has your updated address in their system, BofA will send the card to whatever address they have on file. You'll need to update your address with Bank of America directly for the prepaid card system. The good news is you might be able to do this online through their prepaid card portal instead of calling them.

Thanks for explaining! I tried updating it online but the system kept giving me an error saying I need to verify my identity first with my current card... which is expired and I don't have! It's like a terrible catch-22.

Oh no, that's exactly what I'm afraid of! My old place is occupied by strangers now, so I wouldn't even be able to get it if it went there.

THIS is exactly why the EDD/BofA system is GARBAGE!!! They don't communicate with each other AT ALL and we're left dealing with the consequences! I had the same problem last winter and didn't receive my payments for over a MONTH because of this address mix-up. EDD keeps saying

I work with disability claims and can clarify this: The EDD maintains your claim information, but Bank of America manages the actual debit card program separately. When EDD approves your claim, they send payment instructions to BofA, but BofA uses their own address records for mailing new cards.\n\nYou need to update your address with both systems separately:\n\n1. With EDD: through your SDI Online account or using the DE 2501 form\n2. With Bank of America: through their prepaid card customer service\n\nIf you can't update your BofA address online, you'll unfortunately need to keep trying their customer service line. I know it's frustrating, but they're the only ones who can help with this specific issue.

Thank you for the detailed explanation! Looks like I'll have to somehow get through to BofA after all. I just wish there was an easier way to contact them than sitting on hold for hours.

Have you tried using Claimyr to reach EDD? I was in a similar situation with my disability payments and address issues, and spending days trying to call EDD with no luck. I found this service at claimyr.com that got me connected to an actual EDD representative in about 20 minutes when I'd been trying for days on my own. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ?si=1hcSq3KFtCr4oAmd \n\nThe EDD rep I spoke with was able to add notes to my file about the address situation and gave me specific instructions on getting BofA to expedite a replacement card to my correct address. Saved me weeks of stress!

I've never heard of Claimyr before! I'm going to check out that video right now because I'm desperate at this point. Even if EDD can't directly fix the BofA issue, maybe they can at least give me official guidance like they did for you. Thanks for the tip!

Quick update on your options:\n\n1. Keep trying Bank of America's prepaid card customer service (1-866-692-9374)\n2. You can request that they expedite a new card to your current address once you reach them\n3. If your disability payments have already been deposited, you can actually have BofA transfer the funds to your personal bank account instead of waiting for the card\n4. For future reference, you can set up direct deposit to your regular bank account through EDD to avoid using the BofA card entirely\n\nDon't give up - this is frustrating but fixable!

Thank you for these options! I didn't know I could have them transfer the funds directly to my bank account - that would be amazing if I can get through to someone. And I'm definitely setting up direct deposit for the future to avoid this headache again!

Yes! I used Claimyr to reach EDD first (took about 25 mins instead of hours of redial). The EDD rep confirmed my correct address and gave me a reference number to use when calling BofA. Then I called BofA early the next morning (7:01am!) and the wait was only 15 minutes. They're sending a replacement card to my correct address with expedited shipping! Should have it by Friday. The EDD reference number really helped convince them to help me quickly.
