Money trapped in Bank of America account - have Money Network card but missing B of A debit card
I'm in a weird situation and feeling really stressed about it. I started receiving EDD benefits about 3 weeks ago, and the payments went into a Bank of America account associated with my claim. But I never received the B of A debit card to actually access that money! When I called Bank of America, they claimed they sent the card, but I've checked my mail religiously and nothing ever showed up. The confusing part is I just received a Money Network card this week. I thought EDD switched from B of A to Money Network entirely, but apparently I have funds stuck in both systems? I really need to access the money in the Bank of America account ASAP. My rent is due next week and I'm panicking. Does anyone know how to get money out of the B of A account without having the physical debit card? Or how to request a replacement? The EDD website is no help and I've been on hold with B of A for hours.

omg same thing happened to me last year! B of A is the WORST with these EDD cards. u need to call B of A's EDD debit card dept specifically at 1-866-692-9374. dont bother with regular B of A customer service, they cant help. tell them u never got ur card and they'll send a replacement but BE WARNED it takes like 7-10 business days. so annoying

•Thank you! Did you have to pay a fee for the replacement card? And did they make you verify your identity? I'm worried because I don't have the card number to even access my account online.

The EDD is completely incompetent with how they handle payments!!! I went through EXACT same situation in January. They're transitioning from BofA to Money Network but doing it in the most confusing way possible. Some payments go to one, some to another. RIDICULOUS system!!

You have a few options to access your funds from the Bank of America EDD debit card account: 1. Call Bank of America EDD customer service at 1-866-692-9374 to report your card never arrived and request a replacement. They'll ask for your SSN and other verification details. There's no fee for the first replacement, but it takes 7-10 business days to arrive. 2. You can also request an emergency cash transfer at a Bank of America branch. Bring your ID and they can verify your identity and allow a withdrawal without the physical card. You'll need to know your SSN and answer security questions. 3. If you set up direct deposit previously, you might be able to transfer the funds to your personal bank account through the B of A prepaid website, but you'll need to set up online access first. Regarding the transition to Money Network - EDD began switching over in 2024, but there was an overlap period. Any payments issued before your Money Network card was active would go to the B of A account. Future payments should go to Money Network.

•This is incredibly helpful, thank you! I'll try going to a B of A branch tomorrow with my ID. Do you know if they can help me set up online access while I'm there so I can transfer money in the future without going to a branch?

When I had trouble getting through to someone at BoA about my missing card last month, I used Claimyr to connect with them and it saved me HOURS of frustration. They connected me to a real person at B of A in about 12 minutes when I'd been trying for days. Check out their video demo at https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km to see how it works. Their website is claimyr.com - they basically navigate the phone system for you to reach a live rep. It was actually worth it because I had almost $1700 sitting in that account I couldn't access!

•Is that service legit? I've heard of them but was worried it might be a scam. Did they need your personal information???

•It's definitely legit - they just help you get through the phone system faster. They don't need any of your EDD or banking info. They just call you back when they have an agent on the line. I was skeptical too but was desperate after waiting on hold for 3+ hours multiple days.

My cousin works for BoA (not the EDD department tho) and she said theres a crazy amount of these cards that get lost in the mail or stolen you would not believe. When you call make sure you tell them you suspect it was stolen not just lost and they'll put a fraud alert on the account just in case.

This transition from Bank of America to Money Network has been extremely frustrating for many claimants. Just to clarify some points: - EDD began transitioning from B of A to Money Network in early 2024 - If you had existing claims before the transition, some payments went to B of A - New claims or payments after your Money Network card was activated go there - B of A EDD cards are completely separate from regular B of A accounts For your immediate situation, requesting an emergency cash transfer at a B of A branch is your fastest option. Bring two forms of ID and know your Social Security number. They can verify you're the rightful account holder and allow a withdrawal. Also, when you call B of A's EDD department, ask them to expedite the replacement card. They can sometimes do 3-day shipping instead of the standard 7-10 days if you explain it's an urgent financial hardship situation.

•Thank you, this explanation makes the whole situation make so much more sense! I'll definitely ask about expedited shipping when I call.

•The transition happened in phases throughout 2024-25. If someone had pending payments or a backdate that was processed during the transition period, they could end up with funds in both systems. It depends on when each payment was actually processed by EDD, not when it was certified or approved. It's confusing because EDD didn't communicate the transition timeline clearly to claimants.

Just wanted to add one more thing - once you get your B of A card situation resolved, make sure you transfer ALL funds out of that account. The B of A EDD accounts will eventually be closed completely as EDD fully transitions to Money Network. Any funds left in B of A accounts after the transition completes could cause headaches to recover.

•That's really good advice - I'll make sure to empty the account completely once I get access. Do you know if there's a deadline when the B of A accounts will be closed?

•EDD hasn't announced a firm deadline, but based on their communications, they aim to complete the transition by mid-2025. I'd recommend emptying the account as soon as you can access it rather than waiting.
