EDD debit card delay after first payment notification - still waiting after 10+ days

I'm stressing out over this EDD debit card situation. On February 8th I got notification that my first SDI payment was processed, but here I am 12 days later with NO debit card in sight! My claim was approved pretty quickly after my surgery (thank goodness because rent is coming up), but what good is an approved payment if I can't access the funds?? My old BofA EDD card expired back in November, so I'm definitely waiting on a new one. I've tried calling EDD but keep getting disconnected after 40+ minutes on hold. How long did everyone else wait for their cards to arrive after payment notification? Is there a way to expedite this? Starting to panic a little...

Mine took 7-10 business days to arrive after my first payment was issued. EDD uses Bank of America for their debit cards, and BofA sends them through regular mail. If it's been more than 10 business days (so not counting weekends), you should call Bank of America's EDD card services directly at 1-866-692-9374. They're usually much easier to reach than EDD and can tell you exactly when your card was mailed or even expedite a replacement.

Thank you! I'll try calling BofA directly - didn't realize I could do that instead of going through EDD. Really hope they can help because I've got bills due next week that I was counting on this money for.

This happens ALL the time with EDD payments, especially for first-time disability claims. The system is so frustrating! The card is mailed separately from Bank of America, not directly from EDD, which a lot of people don't realize. Here's what I recommend: 1. Call Bank of America EDD card services (not regular BofA customer service) 2. Ask them to confirm if/when your card was mailed 3. If it's been more than 10 business days, request an expedited replacement Also, once you get your card, I HIGHLY recommend setting up direct deposit to your regular bank account. That way, future payments will go straight to your bank and you won't have to deal with the card. You can set this up through the BofA EDD card website after you activate your card.

This is super helpful! I had no idea I could set up direct deposit for future payments. That would make things so much easier. Will definitely do that once (if??) my card ever arrives.

THEY TOOK ALMOST THREE WEEKS TO SEND MINE!!! And I was calling everyday!!!! The worst part is nobody could tell me anything about where it was or when it would come. The EDD system is BROKEN!!!!!

Same experience here. The payment shows as issued in the system but you can't access it until you physically have the card. Super stressful when you're already dealing with a medical situation and need the funds.

Has anyone here had luck getting through to an actual EDD representative about expediting the card? I'm in a similar situation and wondering if its worth the effort of calling them vs just waiting it out...

I was in this exact situation last month after my maternity disability claim was approved. After trying to call EDD for three days and never getting through, I used Claimyr (claimyr.com) and got connected to an EDD representative in about 15 minutes. They were able to confirm my payment was issued and the exact date my card was mailed. They said they couldn't expedite it themselves but gave me the direct number to call at Bank of America who could. Their video demo shows exactly how it works: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ?si=1hcSq3KFtCr4oAmd Definitely worth it for the peace of mind of knowing where your money is and when you'll get it, especially when you're waiting on disability funds you need.

One more thing to check - make sure your mailing address is correct on your EDD account! I've seen situations where people moved since their last EDD claim and forgot to update their address. If that happens, the card gets sent to your old address and then you're really in for a headache.

Just double-checked and my address is correct on my account. Called Bank of America's EDD department this morning and they confirmed my card was mailed on February 12th, so it should hopefully arrive by early next week. They said I could request an expedited replacement for $10 if it doesn't arrive by then. Thanks everyone for the advice - feeling a lot less panicked now!
