EDD SDI payment card never arrived after approval - 5 weeks of chaos trying to reach someone

Has anyone else had issues with their EDD debit card delivery? My SDI claim was approved on March 9th, 2025 (after the usual stress of waiting for medical certification), but here I am 5 weeks later with ZERO money and no card in sight. The online portal shows payments have been issued but where the heck are they going?? I've been calling the customer service number literally 20+ times every day and either get disconnected or end up in an endless loop of automated messages. I've tried the EDD website message system twice with no response. I'm at my wit's end - rent is due next week, and I'm still recovering from back surgery with no income coming in. How am I supposed to get an actual human to help me track down my missing money? My doctor said I can't return to work for at least another month, and my savings are completely depleted at this point.

same thing happened to me in January!! so frustrating. turns out they sent my card to an old address even tho I updated everything online. took me FOREVER to get someone on the phone

How did you finally reach someone? I've tried calling at different times of day with no luck. Did you have to request a replacement card?

There are actually two different phone numbers you need to be aware of. The EDD SDI customer service line won't help with card issues. You need to contact Bank of America EDD card services directly at 1-866-692-9374. That's specifically for lost/missing/replacement debit cards. They're open 24/7 and usually have shorter wait times than EDD themselves. You'll need to verify your identity with them, and they can tell you if a card was mailed and to what address. If it was sent to the wrong address, they can cancel that card and issue a new one.

Thank you so much! I didn't realize there were separate departments handling this. I've been calling the main EDD number this whole time. I'll try the BofA number right now.

I just went through this nightmare last month!! The BofA card services number is good advice, BUT good luck getting through there too. I ended up calling 45+ times over 3 days and still couldn't get a human. The system would just hang up on me during high call volume. Eventually I discovered this service called Claimyr that got me connected to a rep in about 20 minutes after weeks of trying on my own. It basically keeps dialing and navigating the phone menus for you until it gets a human, then calls you to connect. Saved my sanity! Check out their demo at https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ?si=1hcSq3KFtCr4oAmd or go to claimyr.com. Worth it when you're desperate and need to talk to someone ASAP about missing payments.

is that service legit? sounds too good to be true tbh. i'd be worried about giving my info to some random service

It's legit - I was skeptical too but it literally just dials for you and connects the call when it gets through. You're still talking directly to the actual EDD/BofA rep. My card had been sent to my old address from 3 years ago somehow, even though I updated my info when I filed. They were able to cancel that card and rush me a new one.

One important thing to know is that by default, EDD will issue your card to the address they have on file from your LAST interaction with them. This might be a UI claim from years ago, or even a previous disability claim. It doesn't automatically update when you submit a new address on your current claim form. Here's what you need to do: 1. Call Bank of America EDD card services at 1-866-692-9374 2. If your card was mailed to an incorrect address, have them cancel it 3. Request a new card be sent via expedited shipping 4. Make sure they update your address in THEIR system (BofA's records are separate from EDD's) 5. For future reference, you can actually set up direct deposit to your personal bank account instead of using the BofA card - this avoids the whole card issue entirely Also, while waiting for your new card, you can request that they unlock your account for ATM cash advance if you can physically go to a Bank of America branch with your ID. This can help in emergency situations.

I had no idea the address systems were separate! That must be what happened - I moved 2 years ago but my last EDD claim was 3 years ago for a brief period of unemployment. I'll definitely ask about the ATM cash advance option when I reach someone. And setting up direct deposit for future payments sounds much better than dealing with this card nightmare. Thank you!!

THE ENTIRE EDD SYSTEM IS COMPLETELY BROKEN!!! I went through this EXACT situation in February and ended up having to DRIVE TO AN ACTUAL EDD OFFICE after weeks of calling. My card had been sitting in their system as "issued" for over a month but was NEVER ACTUALLY MAILED OUT!!! No explanation, no apology, just a "system error" they claimed. Meanwhile I almost got EVICTED waiting for money that was supposedly sent!!! The worst part is that even the BofA people couldn't see the problem - it took an in-person visit to discover the card was never even processed correctly. DOCUMENT EVERYTHING and be prepared to fight for what you're owed!!!

Oh no, that's terrifying! I didn't even consider that it might never have been mailed at all. Did you have to make an appointment to visit an office in person? I'm still recovering from surgery so driving is difficult, but I might have to consider it as a last resort.

YES - you HAVE to make an appointment first! Their website has the office locations and appointment system. Bring ALL your paperwork, claim numbers, and ID. And bring proof of your correct address too. If you can't drive, maybe a friend can take you? It's ridiculous we have to go through all this just to get benefits we're entitled to!

I went through something similar and discovered you can also use UI Online to check if your address is correct in their system. Log in to your SDI account, but then click to access UI Online (even if you don't have an unemployment claim). Sometimes the address in one system doesn't match the other. If you see a discrepancy, you'll know why your card went missing. Also, pro tip: while waiting for your new card, you can call BofA EDD and ask them to issue a emergency cash transfer to any Bank of America branch. You just need to bring your ID to the branch to pick it up. I had to do this when I was in a similar situation - they can make a portion of your benefits available this way before your new card arrives.

Thank you! I just checked UI Online and you're right - it has my old address! That explains everything. I'm going to try calling Bank of America again tomorrow morning right when they open. The emergency cash transfer would be a huge help while waiting for a new card.

dont 4get to ask them to put a rush on ur new card!! regular mail takes like 7-10 business days but they can expedite it to 3 days if u ask!! they dont tell u this unless u specifically request it

Great tip, thank you! I'll definitely request expedited shipping. At this point, every day without funds is a struggle.

Just checking back - were you able to get through to Bank of America? Did they confirm the card was sent to your old address?

0 coins

Yes! I finally got through this morning after using that Claimyr service someone mentioned. You were exactly right - they had sent my card to my address from 3 years ago. They've canceled that card and are expediting a new one to my current address. They also helped me set up the emergency cash pickup option at my local branch so I can get some funds tomorrow! Can't thank everyone enough for the help and advice. What a relief to finally have this sorted out.

So glad you got it resolved! This exact same thing happened to my sister last year - EDD had her card sent to an address she hadn't lived at in 4 years. It's crazy how their address systems don't sync up properly. For anyone else reading this thread, another tip is to screenshot everything in your online account showing payments were issued and the dates. If you end up having to escalate or file a complaint later, having that documentation really helps prove the timeline of when things went wrong on their end vs yours.
