EDD disability funds missing from Money Network card - what to do? HELP!
Has anyone dealt with missing funds on their EDD SDI Money Network card? I checked my payment history on the EDD website and it shows my disability payments were issued (about $4,800 total), but when I finally received my card yesterday and called to activate it, the automated system said my balance is ZERO! When I tried to speak with a rep, they kept asking for a PIN I never created. I'm freaking out because I've been waiting on this money for weeks to pay for medical bills and rent. Called EDD but couldn't get through after 2 hours on hold. Do I need to file a fraud claim? Has this happened to anyone else with their disability payments? What's the fastest way to resolve this?

•OMG thank you! Did you eventually get your money back? How long did it take? I'm so stressed about this!

I had this issue too with my pregnancy disability. If they're asking for a PIN you never set, it means someone already activated your card. When you first activate, that's when you create the PIN. Definitely means someone got to your card before you did.

•This is correct. The PIN request means the card has already been activated. You should immediately inform Money Network this is fraud. Also, you need to file a police report - this will help with the dispute process. When this happened during my disability claim for back surgery, having the police report significantly expedited my reimbursement.

You'll need to do a few things to resolve this: 1. Call Money Network immediately to report the unauthorized transactions and request a dispute form. Be prepared to verify your identity with your SSN and personal details. 2. Ask them for a complete transaction history showing dates, merchants, and amounts - you'll need this to fill out the dispute form correctly. 3. Download and complete the dispute form here: https://docs.moneynetwork.com/moneyne.../pdf/Disputeform.pdf (This is faster than waiting for them to mail it) 4. File a police report for the identity theft 5. Contact EDD to change your payment method to paper checks for future payments Unfortunately, this is a common problem with disability payments lately. The dispute process usually takes 2-3 weeks for investigation.

•Thank you so much for these detailed steps. I'll call them right away. Do you know if EDD will expedite my replacement funds since I'm without any income right now? I'm supposed to be focusing on recovery but now I'm stressing about bills.

Have you tried having someone who has a Money Network card help you call? I couldn't get anywhere with them until my sister (who has an active card) called and then passed the phone to me after she got through the automated system. For some reason, if you don't have a PIN, their system is designed to keep bouncing you back to automated options - super frustrating when your disability money is stolen!

•That's a smart idea! I'll see if my cousin who's on disability can help me with this. The automated system is impossible to navigate without a PIN!

I spent WEEKS trying to resolve this exact issue with my SDI payments!!! The Money Network customer service is USELESS - they kept transferring me around and nobody could help. I finally got my $3700 back after filing complaints with like 5 different agencies. The ONLY thing that worked was getting through to an actual EDD representative who could flag my account. Have you tried using Claimyr to reach an EDD agent? It's the only way I actually got a human on the phone after days of trying. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ?si=1hcSq3KFtCr4oAmd and their website is claimyr.com - basically they help you bypass the hold times so you can actually speak to someone who can help with these card issues.

•is claimyr legit? i've seen it mentioned before but nervous about giving info to a 3rd party when my info was already stolen once....

•Yes it's legit - I was skeptical too after having my card info stolen, but they just help you get through to EDD faster. I waited 3+ weeks trying to resolve my stolen disability funds before using it. Within 2 days after talking to an actual EDD rep, my case was escalated and I got my replacement funds issued as a paper check. When it's your disability money on the line, waiting weeks isn't an option.

I work with disability cases, and unfortunately this fraud situation has become increasingly common with EDD SDI payments. Here's the official process to resolve it: 1. File a dispute with Money Network within 60 days of the transaction date 2. Request provisional credit (they're required to issue this within 10 business days while investigating) 3. File an identity theft report with local police 4. Contact EDD at 1-800-480-3287 to report the fraud 5. Ask EDD to place a flag on your account and change your payment method Make sure to document EVERYTHING - names, dates, reference numbers for all calls. The investigation can take up to 90 days, but the provisional credit should help in the meantime.

•Thank you for this information! I didn't know about the provisional credit - that would be a huge help while they investigate. Do I specifically have to ask for that or is it automatic when filing a dispute?

•You need to specifically request the provisional credit. Reference Regulation E (Electronic Fund Transfer Act) which requires them to issue provisional credit within 10 business days. Many representatives won't volunteer this information unless you specifically ask for it. Be persistent and cite the regulation if they hesitate.

•2 months?! That's insane! I can't wait that long for my disability payments. Did she do anything special to finally get it resolved?

I got so frustrated with the whole Money Network situation during my disability claim that I just switched to paper checks from the beginning. Yes they take a few days longer to arrive but at least no one can drain your account before you ever get the card! If you call EDD (which I know is nearly impossible) you can request all future payments be sent as checks instead of going to the Money Network card.

•I wish I had known this before! Definitely switching to paper checks for any remaining payments. Did they give you any hassle about making the switch?

•Nope, they were actually pretty helpful once I finally got someone on the phone. The EDD rep told me lots of people were switching to checks because of all the Money Network fraud. Just make sure your mailing address is up to date in their system!

Just to add another warning - watch out for calls from people CLAIMING to be from Money Network or EDD asking for your info to "help" with your card issues. My friend got scammed this way during her pregnancy disability. Only call the official numbers listed on the EDD website!

•That's a really good point - thank you for the warning! I'll be extra careful about that.

I went through this nightmare last year with my disability payments after my surgery. After weeks of getting nowhere with Money Network, I found contacting my state assembly member's office was incredibly helpful. They have dedicated staff who handle EDD issues and can often get results when we can't. Might be worth trying if you hit dead ends with the regular channels.

•I wouldn't have thought of that! How do I find my assembly member's contact info?

•You can find your CA state assembly member here: http://findyourrep.legislature.ca.gov/ - just enter your address. Their offices deal with EDD issues all the time and often have direct contacts that can help resolve these problems faster than going through normal channels. I was amazed at how quickly things started moving after I got them involved with my disability payment issues.
