EDD SDI debit card still not arrived after 3 weeks - normal wait time?
Has anyone else experienced super long wait times for their EDD SDI debit card? I got approved for state disability on April 3rd (yay!), and they told me I'd receive my BOA debit card within 7-10 business days. Well, it's been over THREE WEEKS now and still nothing in my mailbox. I'm starting to get really nervous because my rent is due next week and I was counting on these funds. I've already used up most of my savings during my recovery from surgery. I checked my SDI Online account and it shows payments have been issued, but what good is that if I can't access the money? Does anyone know if there's a way to track the card or expedite a replacement? Maybe it got lost in the mail? I'm worried about calling EDD because I've heard horror stories about wait times.

Unfortunately this happens more often than you'd think. It took almost a month for my card to arrive last year when I was on disability for my back injury. The Bank of America EDD cards seem to take way longer than they tell you. A few things you can try: 1. Call Bank of America EDD card customer service directly at 1-866-692-9374. They're usually easier to reach than EDD and can tell you if your card was actually mailed, when it was sent, and can expedite a replacement if needed. 2. Check if you've ever had an EDD debit card before (even for unemployment). If you did, they might be depositing funds to your old card instead of sending a new one. 3. Verify your mailing address is correct in your SDI Online account. Don't panic yet - if your SDI Online shows payments have been issued, the money is there waiting for you, it's just a matter of getting the card.

•Thank you so much for this info! I didn't realize I could contact Bank of America directly about this. I just called them and they confirmed my card was mailed out on April 7th, but they said sometimes USPS delivery delays happen. The rep offered to cancel that card and expedite a new one that should arrive in 3-5 business days. There's a $10 fee but at this point I'm desperate enough to pay it. Such a relief to know the money is actually there!

The same thing happened to me in February!! I was so stressed waiting for that stupid card. What worked for me was going to a Bank of America branch in person with my ID and explaining the situation. The branch couldn't give me a card, but the manager called someone and got my card expedited for free. Had it 2 days later. Worth a try if there's a BofA near you.

•That's a great tip! There's actually a Bank of America about 10 minutes from my house. I already requested an expedited card over the phone, but if I don't receive it by Tuesday I'll definitely try going in person. Thanks for sharing what worked for you!

•Same. And when I finally got mine last month, the activation code they sent in the separate mailer came a week AFTER the card. The whole system is broken.

I had to call EDD like 50 times before I finally got through to a real person who could help me with my missing card situation. Their phone system is absolutely terrible - I kept getting disconnected or stuck on hold forever. I finally found this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me through to an EDD agent in about 20 minutes instead of spending all day redialing. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ?si=1hcSq3KFtCr4oAmd Once I got through, the EDD rep was able to confirm my payments were issued and coordinated with Bank of America to expedite my card. Had it 3 days later. Might be worth trying if you're in a rush for your money.

•Is that service legit? I've been trying to reach someone at EDD for days about my certification issue. How much does it cost?

•It's definitely legit - I was skeptical too but it actually worked. They don't tell you the cost until you sign up which is annoying, but for me it was worth it because I was about to miss another mortgage payment waiting for my disability benefits.

THESE CARDS ARE THE WORST!!!! I've been on SDI twice and both times had major issues with the Bank of America cards. First time it got lost in the mail and I waited over 6 weeks. Second time (last year) they sent it to my old address even though I updated my info with EDD! My advice - as soon as you get your card, transfer ALL your money out of it to your regular bank account. Don't leave anything on that card. The BoA/EDD cards have horrible fraud protection and customer service is a nightmare if something goes wrong. Also, when you call Bank of America, DEMAND to speak to a supervisor right away. The regular reps have limited power to help with these issues.

•Thanks for the warning! I definitely plan to transfer everything to my regular account as soon as I get the card. I've heard too many horror stories about these BoA cards getting frozen or compromised.

One other thing I just thought of - make sure you check with anyone else in your household about the mail. I know this sounds silly, but when I was waiting for my card, it turned out my husband had collected the mail one day and put the envelope aside thinking it was junk mail because it comes in a very plain, unmarked envelope for security reasons. Might be worth checking any mail piles around your house just in case!

•I actually did that already! I went through all our mail piles, checked with my roommate, even looked under furniture in case it fell. I'm pretty sure it's just delayed or lost. But I'm feeling much better now that I've talked to Bank of America and have a replacement on the way. Thank you again for your helpful advice!

•I got approved for regular SDI for a medical condition, not Paid Family Leave. But thanks for checking - I've heard the different programs can have different timelines.

Does anyone know if there's a way to just get direct deposit instead of dealing with these annoying debit cards? I'm about to file for pregnancy disability next month and I'd really prefer not to deal with any card delays.

•Unfortunately, California EDD still uses the Bank of America debit card system as their only payment method. Once you get the card, you can set up automatic transfers to your regular bank account, but initially, everyone gets a card. Some other states have direct deposit options, but not California (at least not yet).

UPDATE: My replacement card arrived today! Only took 4 days with the expedited shipping. I was able to activate it right away and transfer the funds to my regular checking account. For anyone else dealing with this issue, definitely call Bank of America EDD department directly (1-866-692-9374) rather than trying to go through EDD. Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions!
