EDD identity verification issue delaying unemployment check - what to do?
I'm having trouble with my unemployment claim. I logged into the EDD website and it said something about confirming my identity. I was expecting a check but it hasn't come. The website didn't give me any clear instructions on what to do next. I really need this money for rent. Has anyone else dealt with this? What should I do?

I swear, dealing with EDD is harder than my actual job was. Who do I talk to about getting paid for this full-time frustration gig? 🙃

•Mood. I've spent more time on hold than I ever did in meetings at work.

Ugh, I feel you. The EDD system is a nightmare rn. Have you tried calling them? Sometimes you gotta talk to a real person to get things moving.

•Pro tip: call right when they open. Set an alarm and start dialing at 7:59 AM. It's still a pain, but your chances are better.

•I agree with calling early, but I've also found that calling during lunch hours can sometimes work since agents take breaks at different times.

To address your concern, OP, regarding the difficulty in verifying your identity with EDD, here's a comprehensive approach you can follow: Firstly, ensure all your identification documents are up-to-date and clearly scanned or photographed. This includes your driver's license, social security card, and a recent utility bill for address verification. It's essential to keep these documents ready for any sudden requests from the EDD. Secondly, consider exploring services like Claimyr. Although some might find it costly, it has proven effective for many in bypassing the endless hold times on EDD's phone lines. However, weigh the cost against your current financial situation before proceeding. Additionally, monitor your email inbox, including the spam/junk folder, for any correspondence from EDD that might have been missed. Communication errors often occur due to emails being inadvertently redirected. Finally, don't hesitate to reach out to your local representative for assistance if you're facing prolonged issues. They often have resources to expedite claims. Also, connecting with online communities may provide real-time advice and emotional support. The process can be arduous, but persistence is key. Remember, this system is in place to support you, and staying proactive can help you get the benefits you're entitled to. Good luck!

Make sure you have all your identity docs ready. They might ask for your driver's license, social security card, and even passport. Better to have everything on hand when you finally get through.

•Thanks for the tip. I've got those ready. Just wish I knew when they'd actually ask for them.

•Don't forget utility bills too! They sometimes want those for address verification.

•It's always good to keep a digital backup of these documents just in case they ask for resubmission.

Anyone else feel like they could write a PhD dissertation on "The Art of Navigating EDD" at this point? 🎓 Maybe we can all get jobs as EDD consultants after this. Silver linings, right? 😅

Seriously tho, has anyone actually gotten through to a real person lately? Starting to think EDD agents are like bigfoot - everyone talks about them, but no one's actually seen one. 🕵️♂️

Listen up, folks. I've been through this rodeo before, so here's the deal: 1. Document everything. Every call, every letter, every email. You might need it later. 2. Be persistent. Call every day if you have to. The squeaky wheel gets the grease. 3. Have all your docs ready: ID, SSN, proof of address, employment history. They might ask for anything. 4. Check your online account daily. Sometimes they update it without telling you. 5. If you can't get through on the phone, try reaching out on social media. EDD sometimes responds there. 6. Consider contacting your local state representative. They can sometimes expedite claims. 7. Join Facebook groups or Reddit communities for EDD claimants. You can get real-time updates and tips there. Remember, the system is overwhelmed, but don't give up. You're entitled to these benefits. Stay strong and keep pushing! 💪

•Excellent advice! I would add that sometimes using the EDD's online chat service can provide quicker answers for basic inquiries.

Have you checked if your contact info is up to date on your EDD account? Sometimes they try to send letters but have old addresses.

Anyone else feel like we're all just stuck in a giant game of bureaucratic Monopoly? Go directly to EDD. Do not pass Go. Do not collect $200 (or your unemployment check). 🎲🏦

Did your job end recently? Sometimes that triggers extra verification steps. When I got laid off, it took forever for EDD to update my claim. 😫

PSA: If you're having trouble with identity verification, try uploading clearer pictures of your documents. I had to retake mine like 3 times before they accepted them. Pain in the butt, but it worked eventually.

Guys, I found a way to actually get through to EDD! There's this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that calls for you, waits on hold, and then connects you when a real person picks up. It costs $20 but it WORKS. Saved me days of frustration.

Evelyn Xu
•Sounds sketchy. How does it even work?

Sophia Russo
•Not sketchy at all! It just automates the calling process. You pay, give them your number, and they call you when they get an agent. Saved me hours of hold music lol.

•$20 just to make a phone call? That's highway robbery! 😤

•I get it, but when you're waiting on thousands in benefits, $20 to actually get it solved is worth it imo. Your call tho!

•While Claimyr sounds helpful, it's important to consider if the service is worth the cost based on your financial situation. Remember to research and read reviews before using third-party services.

I went through this exact same thing a few months ago! The identity verification hold is super common right now. Here's what worked for me: I called the EDD number (1-800-300-5616) first thing in the morning - like literally started dialing at 8:00 AM sharp. It took about 2 hours on hold, but I finally got through to someone who could see exactly what documents they needed. Turns out they wanted a clearer photo of my driver's license and a recent bank statement. Once I uploaded those through the UI Online portal, my payments released within a week. Don't give up - you'll get through this! Also, definitely check your inbox/spam for any emails from EDD that might have specific instructions. Sometimes they send follow-up emails that get missed.

•This is exactly the kind of detailed, step-by-step help that's so valuable! Thank you for sharing what actually worked for you. I'm going to try calling at 8 AM sharp tomorrow and make sure I have a clear photo of my license ready. Really appreciate you taking the time to explain the whole process - gives me hope that there's light at the end of this tunnel!

I'm dealing with a similar identity verification issue right now - it's so frustrating when you're counting on that money! From what I've learned lurking in these forums, the key seems to be getting crystal clear photos of your documents and being persistent with calling. I've been setting multiple alarms to call right when they open because the wait times are insane later in the day. Also make sure to check your UI Online account daily - sometimes they'll update requirements or request additional documents without sending a clear notification. The whole system feels broken, but everyone here seems to eventually get through it with enough persistence. Hang in there! 💪
