EDD Money Network funds directly to PayPal account - is this possible?

I'm freaking out right now because I can't figure out if I messed up my EDD payment setup. I just got approved after my eligibility interview last week (took forever!!) and selected direct deposit in UI Online. I entered what I THOUGHT was my bank account info, but now realize I might have entered my PayPal account number instead of my actual checking account. Has anyone successfully had their EDD payments deposited to a PayPal account? UI Online shows my payment as "paid" status for $678 but there's nothing in my PayPal yet. It's been 3 business days. Customer service keeps disconnecting me when I finally get through after 2+ hours on hold. I have rent due next week and I'm seriously starting to panic!

omg i did the same thing last summer! dont worry, paypal CAN accept direct deposits but it takes like 5-7 business days sometimes. as long as the account # and routing # were correct it will show up eventually. EDD is always slow with everything lol

Are you 100% sure? I'm so stressed I can barely sleep. I thought PayPal only worked with linked bank accounts, not direct deposits from government agencies. Did your money actually come through to PayPal in the end?

I don't think this is accurate. EDD payments typically go either to a Money Network debit card OR to a traditional checking/savings account. PayPal accounts aren't designed to receive ACH payments from government systems like EDD. What likely happened is one of two things: 1) If you entered incorrect banking information, the payment will be rejected and returned to EDD, then they'll default to sending you a Money Network card, which takes 7-10 business days to arrive 2) If you entered PayPal's routing number but an incorrect account number, the deposit will fail and return to EDD You need to speak with an EDD representative ASAP to verify what's happening with your payment. The UI Online system showing "paid" only means they've released the funds, not that they've successfully reached your account.

Money Network is for all EDD benefits now, including regular UI, SDI, and PFL. They phased out the old Bank of America cards completely in 2024. But direct deposit to a bank account is still the faster option if set up correctly.

DONT WASTE UR TIME CALLING THE REGULAR NUMBER!! i spent TWO WEEKS trying to get through about a similar payment issue. The regular line is useless and they transfer you around and disconnect you constantly. Finally used Claimyr and got through to a tier 2 specialist in 25 minutes who fixed everything. check out their demo video https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km or go to claimyr.com - totally worth it when ur desperate to get payment issues fixed!

Thanks for the tip. I'm pretty desperate at this point, so I'll check it out. Did they help with re-routing your payment or just with getting through to someone?

They just help you get through to an actual EDD rep who can help. The rep I got was able to see exactly where my payment was stuck and fixed it that day. Much better than waiting on hold forever!

To clarify the PayPal situation: PayPal does have routing and account numbers that can receive ACH transfers, but only if you've specifically set up a PayPal Cash Plus account and requested your direct deposit information. Regular PayPal accounts cannot receive direct deposits from government agencies. If you entered incorrect banking information, here's what will happen: 1. EDD will attempt the direct deposit 2. It will fail and be returned to EDD (takes 3-5 business days) 3. EDD will automatically issue you a Money Network card 4. The card will be mailed to your address (additional 7-10 business days) Total time: 10-15 business days from original payment date. I recommend calling EDD at 1-800-300-5616 as soon as possible to explain the situation. They might be able to expedite your Money Network card once the failed deposit is returned.

This is exactly what I needed to know, thank you! I do have a PayPal Cash Plus account but I'm not sure if I ever set up the direct deposit info correctly. Sounds like I need to wait for the return process and then get the Money Network card. I'll call EDD tomorrow morning right when they open.

lol this happened to my roomate but with venmo not paypal!! the money DID eventually come back but it took EDD like 3 weeks to figure it out and then another 2 weeks for the money network card. the whole system is rigged to make us suffer i swear.

5 WEEKS?! Are you serious? That's absolutely ridiculous. And they wonder why people get behind on bills when unemployed. The system is completely broken. I had a similar issue in January where they sent my payments to a closed account, and I had to go through identity verification AGAIN before they would reissue. Took nearly 6 weeks total.

hey did u fix this yet? just wondering cause im having a similar issue with my direct deposit not showing up but mine is to a credit union account

Not yet. I spoke with EDD this morning and they confirmed my payment failed because PayPal rejected it. They're issuing a Money Network card now which should arrive in 7-10 days. For your credit union issue, they told me sometimes smaller credit unions take longer to process ACH transfers from government agencies - up to 5 business days. Hope that helps!

Update for anyone with a similar issue in the future: After a payment is rejected due to incorrect banking information, EDD typically takes 3-5 business days to reprocess and automatically issue a Money Network card. You don't need to do anything special to trigger this process, it happens automatically. However, if you haven't received your card within 10 business days after the rejected payment, you should contact Money Network directly at 1-888-727-4314 to check on card status or request expedited shipping. Also, once you receive your card, you can transfer funds from it to your bank account through the Money Network mobile app or website. This is often faster than waiting for EDD to update your direct deposit information for future payments.

You've been super helpful, thank you! My card is supposed to arrive by next Wednesday according to the rep I spoke with. Once I get it, I'll make sure to set up the app so I can transfer funds quickly. Really appreciate all the advice from everyone here.

Just wanted to add that if you're still waiting for your Money Network card, you can actually check the status online at MoneyNetwork.com without having to call. You'll need your SSN and the phone number on file with EDD. Also, pro tip: once you get the card, you can get cash back at most grocery stores and pharmacies without ATM fees, which is way better than using random ATMs that charge like $3-5 per transaction. The Money Network app also lets you check your balance and transaction history in real time, which is honestly more convenient than I expected. Hope this helps someone else going through the same stress!

This is really helpful info! I had no idea you could check the card status online without calling. I've been refreshing my email constantly waiting for shipping updates. The cash back tip is great too - I always forget about those fees until I see them on my statement. Thanks for sharing this, it'll definitely save me some stress and money once my card arrives!

Just went through this exact situation last month! My EDD payment got stuck because I accidentally put in my old Chime account routing number but my current bank's account number. Took exactly 4 business days for the payment to bounce back to EDD, then another 8 days to get my Money Network card. The whole time UI Online showed "paid" even though the money was floating around somewhere in banking limbo. Once I got the card though, everything worked smoothly. You can actually set up direct deposit correctly for future payments right through the Money Network website once your card arrives - it's way easier than trying to update it through UI Online. Hang in there, the money will come through eventually!

This gives me so much hope, thank you! It's reassuring to hear from someone who went through the exact same thing. The "paid" status on UI Online has been driving me crazy because I kept thinking the money should be there by now. Knowing it took 4 days for the bounce back and then 8 more days for the card helps me set realistic expectations. I'm definitely going to use the Money Network website to set up direct deposit correctly once I get the card - sounds way less confusing than trying to navigate UI Online again. Really appreciate you sharing your timeline!

I went through something similar earlier this year! The waiting period when you see "paid" status but no money is absolutely nerve-wracking. Just to add to what others have said - when my direct deposit info was wrong (I mixed up two digits in my account number), it took exactly 5 business days for EDD to get the rejection notice back from my bank, then they automatically triggered the Money Network card process. One thing I learned is that you can actually call Money Network customer service at 1-888-727-4314 to check if a card has been ordered for your SSN, even before it ships. They were way more helpful than EDD customer service and could give me the exact shipping timeline. Also, if you're really in a bind for rent money, some community organizations and churches have emergency assistance programs - might be worth looking into while you wait for the card to arrive. The stress is real but you'll get through this!

Thank you so much for the detailed info! I had no idea you could call Money Network directly to check if a card was ordered - that's actually really helpful since EDD customer service has been impossible to reach. The 5-day timeline for the rejection notice matches what others have said, so I'm feeling more confident about when to expect things to move forward. I really appreciate the suggestion about emergency assistance programs too. I've been so focused on the EDD payment that I didn't think about other options for short-term help with rent. This community has been amazing - getting real experiences and timelines from people who've actually been through this is so much more helpful than the vague info on the EDD website!

I'm going through almost the exact same situation right now! My payment has been showing "paid" for 6 days and I'm pretty sure I accidentally entered my Venmo routing number instead of my actual bank account. Reading through all these responses is honestly the most helpful information I've found anywhere - way better than the generic FAQ pages on the EDD website. It sounds like the consensus is that failed direct deposits take about 3-5 business days to bounce back to EDD, then another 7-10 days for the Money Network card to arrive. That timeline actually makes me feel a lot better because I was starting to think my payment just disappeared into thin air. Has anyone tried updating their direct deposit info in UI Online while waiting for a failed payment to process? I'm wondering if I should try to fix my banking info now or just wait for the Money Network card and then set up direct deposit correctly through their website like some of you mentioned.

0 coins

I wouldn't bother trying to update your direct deposit info in UI Online right now while the failed payment is still processing. From what I've read in other threads, making changes to your banking info while there's already a payment in limbo can actually cause more delays and confusion in their system. It's better to just let the current payment bounce back and get processed for the Money Network card, then once you have that card in hand, you can set up your correct banking info through the Money Network website for future payments. That way seems to be much more reliable than trying to fix it through UI Online, which a lot of people say is buggy anyway. Hang in there - sounds like you're right on track with the same timeline everyone else experienced!

0 coins

I just want to say this thread has been incredibly helpful for everyone dealing with payment routing issues! I went through something similar about 6 months ago when I accidentally entered my old bank account number that had been closed. The anxiety of seeing "paid" status while having no money is absolutely horrible, especially when you have bills due. One thing I'd add that hasn't been mentioned yet - once your Money Network card arrives and you activate it, you can actually set up text alerts for when funds are deposited. This was a lifesaver for me because EDD payments don't always come on the same day each week, and the text notification gave me peace of mind that the money actually hit the account. You can set this up in the Money Network app under notifications. Also, for anyone worried about rent being late - most landlords are more understanding than you'd expect if you explain the situation and show them documentation that your unemployment payment is processing. I was able to get a 10-day extension on my rent just by showing my landlord the "paid" status screenshot from UI Online and explaining the banking mix-up. Obviously every landlord is different, but it's worth asking rather than stressing in silence. Hang in there everyone - the system is definitely broken but the money does eventually come through!

0 coins

This is such great advice, especially about the text alerts! I'm definitely going to set those up once I get my card. The landlord tip is really smart too - I've been so anxious about having to explain why my rent might be late, but you're right that showing documentation probably helps. It's crazy how much stress this whole process causes when it's supposed to be a safety net for people who are already struggling. Thanks for sharing your experience and for being so encouraging - it really helps to know that others have gotten through this exact situation!

I'm a newcomer here but going through something very similar right now! My EDD payment has been showing "paid" for 4 days and I'm 99% sure I entered my old Wells Fargo account info that I closed last year instead of my new credit union account. Reading through everyone's experiences here is honestly the first time I've felt less panicked about this whole situation. It's really reassuring to see the consistent timeline that most people experienced - sounds like 3-5 days for the bounce back, then 7-10 days for the Money Network card. I've been calling EDD nonstop but can never get through, so knowing that the process happens automatically is actually a huge relief. Quick question for anyone who's been through this - do you get any kind of notification when EDD receives the rejected payment back from the bank? Or do you just have to wait and assume it's processing? Also, has anyone had luck with the Claimyr service that was mentioned earlier? I'm getting desperate enough to try anything at this point! Thanks to everyone sharing their experiences - this thread is literally saving my sanity right now!

Welcome to the community! I totally understand the panic you're feeling right now - I went through the exact same thing about 3 months ago when I accidentally used my closed Bank of America info instead of my current Chase account. Unfortunately, EDD doesn't send any notification when they receive the rejected payment back, which is super frustrating. You basically just have to wait and watch for the status to change or for the Money Network card process to start. As for Claimyr, I actually did use them back in February when I had a different issue with my claim being stuck in pending. It cost me like $20 but honestly it was worth it because I got through to a tier 2 specialist in about 30 minutes instead of spending days trying to call. The rep was able to see exactly where my payment was in the system and gave me a realistic timeline. For your situation though, since the process is automatic once the payment bounces back, you might want to wait a few more days before paying for the service - but if you hit day 7-8 with no movement, it could be worth it for peace of mind. Hang in there, the money will come through!

Hey Chris! I'm also pretty new to this community but went through almost the exact same thing just 2 weeks ago. I accidentally entered my old Capital One account that I closed 6 months ago instead of my new Navy Federal account. The waiting period is absolutely brutal - I was checking UI Online like every hour hoping something would change. From my experience, you're right on track with the 4-day timeline. Mine took exactly 5 business days for the rejection to come back to EDD, then I got a text notification that my Money Network card was being processed. The card arrived 9 days later. No email or notification from EDD about the rejected payment though, which was super frustrating. One thing that helped my anxiety was creating a little timeline tracker - I wrote down the date my payment showed "paid" and then counted out the business days so I knew what to expect each day. It sounds silly but it helped me feel more in control of the situation. Also, if you have any pending certifications, make sure to keep doing those on schedule even while this payment issue is being resolved - I almost missed one because I was so focused on the banking problem. You're definitely not alone in this! The whole system is confusing and stressful, but everyone's experiences here show it does get resolved eventually.

The timeline tracker idea is brilliant! I'm definitely going to do that because constantly refreshing UI Online is driving me crazy and making the waiting feel so much longer. It's really helpful to hear that yours took exactly 5 business days - gives me a concrete expectation instead of just guessing. And thanks for the reminder about keeping up with certifications! I was so focused on this payment issue that I almost forgot I need to certify again this Sunday. It's amazing how one banking mistake can make everything feel so overwhelming, but reading everyone's experiences here really shows that this is way more common than I thought. Really appreciate you sharing your timeline and tips!

I'm going through the exact same nightmare right now! My payment has been showing "paid" for 3 days and I'm pretty sure I mixed up my routing and account numbers when I set up direct deposit. I've been literally losing sleep over this because I have car insurance due next week and my savings account is completely empty. Reading through everyone's experiences here is honestly the most relief I've felt since this whole mess started. It sounds like the 3-5 day bounce back timeline is pretty consistent, so I'm hoping to see some movement by early next week. The fact that it happens automatically without me having to do anything is actually reassuring - I was worried I'd have to jump through more hoops to get it fixed. Has anyone had experience with payments getting stuck longer than the typical timeline? I'm just paranoid that my situation might be different somehow. Also, once you get the Money Network card, how quickly can you actually access the funds? Like can you use it immediately or do you have to wait for it to activate? Thanks to everyone sharing their stories - this thread is seriously keeping me sane right now!

0 coins

Hey Melina! I can totally relate to the sleepless nights - I went through this exact situation about a month ago and it was absolutely nerve-wracking. From what I experienced and what I've seen others share here, the timeline is pretty consistent even when you mix up routing/account numbers like you did. Mine took exactly 4 business days to bounce back, so you should hopefully see movement by Tuesday or Wednesday next week. As for the Money Network card, once it arrives you can activate it immediately either by calling the number on the sticker or through their mobile app. The funds are usually available right after activation - no waiting period! You can use it at ATMs, get cash back at stores, or transfer the money to your correct bank account through the app. The transfer to your bank usually takes 1-2 business days. I haven't seen anyone here mention payments getting stuck longer than the typical timeline, which is reassuring. The system seems pretty automated once the rejection comes back to EDD. Try to hang in there - I know it's easier said than done when you have bills due, but based on everyone's experiences, you should have your Money Network card by the end of next week at the latest. This community has been such a lifesaver for getting real timelines instead of just stressing in the dark!

I'm so sorry you're going through this stress! I went through something very similar about 8 months ago when I accidentally entered my Venmo account info instead of my actual bank account for EDD direct deposit. The anxiety of seeing "paid" status while having no money in your account is absolutely horrible, especially when rent is due. From my experience, PayPal accounts (even Cash Plus accounts) are really hit-or-miss with government ACH transfers like EDD payments. What most likely happened is that the payment will be rejected by PayPal's system and automatically returned to EDD within 3-5 business days. Once EDD gets the rejected payment back, they'll automatically issue you a Money Network debit card which usually arrives within 7-10 business days. The good news is that this process happens automatically - you don't need to do anything special to trigger it. The "paid" status on UI Online just means EDD released the funds, not that they successfully reached your account. I know it's frustrating, but try not to panic! The money isn't lost, it's just taking a longer route to get to you. In the meantime, you might want to reach out to your landlord and explain the situation - many are understanding about EDD payment delays if you can show documentation. Hang in there, this will get resolved!

Thank you so much for sharing your experience with the Venmo situation! It's really reassuring to hear from someone who went through almost the exact same thing. The 3-5 day timeline for the rejection and then 7-10 days for the Money Network card seems to be what everyone is experiencing, which helps me set realistic expectations instead of checking my accounts obsessively every few hours. I really appreciate the tip about reaching out to my landlord too - I've been so stressed about having to explain why rent might be late, but showing the "paid" status screenshot as documentation is a great idea. It's amazing how much this community has helped calm my nerves when the official EDD resources are basically useless for real-world situations like this. Knowing that the process is automatic and the money isn't actually lost makes such a huge difference!

I'm new here but currently dealing with this exact same situation! My EDD payment has been showing "paid" for 2 days now and I'm pretty sure I accidentally entered my old Chase account info that I closed 3 months ago instead of my new Wells Fargo account. I've been absolutely panicking because I have utilities due this week and my phone bill is already overdue. Reading through everyone's experiences here has been incredibly helpful and honestly the first time I've felt hopeful since this started. It sounds like the 3-5 business day timeline for rejected payments to bounce back to EDD is pretty consistent, and then another 7-10 days for the Money Network card to arrive. I tried calling EDD multiple times yesterday but could never get through - just endless hold music and then disconnections. It's really reassuring to know that the Money Network card process happens automatically once the rejected payment comes back, so I don't have to somehow get through to customer service to fix this. Has anyone had experience with closed account situations specifically? I'm wondering if payments to closed accounts bounce back faster than payments to wrong account numbers, or if it's basically the same timeline. Also planning to use that timeline tracker idea someone mentioned - constantly refreshing UI Online is making my anxiety so much worse! Thanks to everyone sharing their stories here - this community is literally the only thing keeping me from having a complete meltdown right now!

Hey Andre! I actually went through almost this exact situation about 4 months ago when I accidentally used my closed PNC account instead of my new Bank of America account. From my experience, closed account rejections actually bounce back a bit faster than wrong account number situations - mine took exactly 3 business days instead of the usual 4-5. Banks typically reject payments to closed accounts immediately, whereas wrong account numbers sometimes take an extra day or two to process and reject. The timeline tracker idea is seriously a game changer for managing the anxiety! I marked down every business day and it helped me feel way more in control instead of just endlessly refreshing and panicking. Your Money Network card should definitely arrive within that 7-10 day window once the rejection processes. Also totally feel you on not being able to get through to EDD - I probably spent 15+ hours on hold over 3 days before giving up. The automatic process for issuing the Money Network card after a rejected payment is honestly one of the few things that actually works smoothly in their system. You're going to get through this! The utilities companies are usually pretty understanding about short delays too if you call and explain - I got a 10-day extension on my electric bill just by being upfront about the EDD payment issue.

I'm dealing with this exact same issue right now! My payment has been showing "paid" for 5 days and I'm pretty sure I entered my old credit union routing number but my current bank's account number. I've been absolutely stressed out because my rent was due yesterday and my landlord is starting to ask questions. Reading through all these experiences has been such a relief - it sounds like I'm right at that 3-5 day mark where the rejection should be coming back to EDD soon. The fact that the Money Network card gets issued automatically is honestly the best news I've heard all week because I've completely given up on trying to reach EDD customer service. I'm definitely going to try that timeline tracker idea and reach out to my landlord with documentation like some of you suggested. It's crazy how much stress this whole process causes when you're already dealing with unemployment. Thanks to everyone for sharing your real experiences - this thread has probably prevented me from having a complete breakdown!
