EDD Direct Deposit not showing up in bank account - 5 days and waiting

So I finally set up direct deposit through my UI Online account 8 days ago. My certification went through last Sunday night and got marked as 'paid' in the portal by Tuesday afternoon. The EDD website says direct deposits should appear in 24-48 hours after payment is issued, but it's now Friday and I STILL don't see anything in my checking account! I double-checked my account/routing numbers like 5 times before submitting, so I know that's correct. My bank (Chase) doesn't show any pending deposits either. I'm getting really worried because my rent is due Monday and I was counting on this money. Has anyone else successfully used the direct deposit option? How long did it actually take for the money to hit your account? Is there something else I need to do that I missed? I've tried calling EDD but you know how that goes... 🙄

i switched to direct deposit last month and it took almost a full week teh first time. after that its been faster like 2-3 days. dont worry yet

Thanks for the reply! A week seems so long though... did they give you any explanation for why the first one took longer?

The first direct deposit payment can take 5-7 business days to appear in your account as EDD needs to verify your banking information. This is normal and happens to most people. Subsequent payments are typically much faster (1-3 business days). If it doesn't arrive by next Tuesday, that's when you should start to worry. Make sure you don't have any unresolved identity verification issues in your account, as those can delay payments regardless of your payment method. Check your UI Online inbox for any notifications.

Oh that makes sense! Nothing in my inbox about verification issues, so hopefully it's just the first-time delay you mentioned. I wish they'd make this clearer somewhere on the website.

Did anyone tell you to contact your bank?? I had this EXACT problem in January and spent THREE HOURS waiting to talk to Chase only to find out they were holding my deposit for "security review" or something!!! They never even notified me! When I finally got through to someone they released it that same day. MIGHT be worth calling your bank just to check??

0 coins

Omg I hadn't even thought of that! I'll call Chase customer service today. So frustrating that they could just hold onto it without telling me!

Direct deposit is normally reliable but sometimes the first payment is slow. I used to get my payments on Money Network card but switched to direct deposit last year. If you need to reach EDD to confirm they sent the payment, try Claimyr service (claimyr.com). They helped me get through to an EDD rep in about 20 minutes instead of calling for days. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km. The agent can verify if your payment was actually sent to the correct account.

THE EDD SYSTEM IS BROKEN!!!! I had direct deposit set up since DAY ONE and they STILL sent me a stupid card for my first 3 payments!!! Then randomly started doing direct deposit with NO WARNING!!! NONE OF IT MAKES ANY SENSE and no one there knows what they're doing!!! DOCUMENT EVERYTHING and keep calling!!

This isn't helpful. The system follows specific protocols - first payments often default to card while banking info is verified regardless of what you selected. This is for security reasons. Please don't spread misinformation that makes people unnecessarily anxious.

OH REALLY??? Then why couldn't a SINGLE EDD REP explain that to me during my 6 CALLS trying to fix it??? Don't act like their system isn't a total disaster!!!

Let me clarify a few things about EDD direct deposit since there seems to be some confusion: 1. First direct deposit payments typically take 5-7 business days (not calendar days) as EDD performs a micro-deposit verification process with your bank. 2. Your banking information must go through their verification system before full payments are processed. 3. If you switch from Money Network card to direct deposit, there's often a transition period where one more payment might go to your card. 4. You can view exactly when the payment was sent in your payment history section of UI Online (look for the "Issue Date" which is different from your certification date). 5. For peace of mind, keep your Money Network card active even after switching to direct deposit, as emergency payments sometimes default back to the card. If Tuesday comes and you still don't have the deposit, then you should contact EDD.

This is super helpful, thank you! I checked and the Issue Date was actually Wednesday (not Tuesday like I thought), so that means I'm still within the normal window if it takes 5-7 business days. Will wait until next week before panicking.

my cousin works at bank of america and she told me edd direct deposits always show up between 12am-6am never during regular banking hours so if ur checking during the day u might miss it until next morning. just another thing to know

That's good to know! I've been checking midday, so maybe I'll wake up to a nice surprise tomorrow morning.

Quick update since we're on the topic - EDD has been working to improve their direct deposit system in 2025. They now send confirmation emails when deposits are initiated, which should help with tracking. Make sure your email contact information is updated in your UI Online account to receive these notifications.

UPDATE: The money finally hit my account this morning! So it took exactly 9 days from certification to deposit (or 6 business days from when it was marked 'paid'). Thanks everyone for your help and reassurance. For anyone else who switches to direct deposit, definitely plan for the first payment to take longer than they say on the website.

Congratulations on getting it sorted out! This is exactly why I always tell people to expect the first direct deposit to take longer than what EDD advertises. The 24-48 hour timeframe they mention on their website is really only accurate for subsequent payments once your banking info is fully verified in their system. For future reference, you can also check if your bank offers mobile alerts for incoming ACH transfers - that way you'll get notified as soon as the deposit hits, even if it's in the middle of the night like someone mentioned above.

That's a great tip about the mobile alerts! I had no idea banks offered that for ACH transfers. I'm definitely going to set that up with Chase so I don't have to keep obsessively checking my account balance every few hours like I did this week. Would have saved me a lot of stress!

Just wanted to add another data point - I switched to direct deposit about 6 months ago and my first payment took 8 business days to show up. I was freaking out too because like you, I had bills due! What helped me was setting up account alerts through my bank's app so I got a text the moment any deposit hit my account. Also, pro tip: even though your payment shows as "paid" in the EDD portal, that doesn't mean the money has actually left their system yet - there's usually a 1-2 day processing delay on their end before they even send it to your bank. The good news is that once you get past this first payment, the subsequent ones are much more predictable and usually arrive within 2-3 business days.

This is really helpful context! I wish I had known about that 1-2 day processing delay on EDD's end - it would have explained why my payment showed as "paid" on Tuesday but didn't actually get sent to my bank until later in the week. The account alerts are definitely a game changer too. It's frustrating that EDD's website doesn't explain any of this clearly, but at least now I know what to expect for future payments.

This thread has been really helpful for understanding the EDD direct deposit timeline! I just wanted to add that if anyone is still worried about their first direct deposit, you can actually call your bank's automated phone system and check for pending ACH deposits - sometimes they show up there before appearing in your online banking or mobile app. I learned this trick when I was waiting for my first payment and it gave me peace of mind knowing the deposit was actually on its way even though I couldn't see it yet. Also, make sure to keep checking your EDD account for any messages about banking verification - sometimes they send additional requests that can delay the process if you don't respond quickly.

That's a brilliant tip about calling the bank's automated system to check for pending ACH deposits! I never knew that was an option. I spent so much time refreshing my mobile app this week when I could have just called and gotten actual information about pending transactions. Definitely going to remember that for the future. And you're absolutely right about monitoring the EDD account for verification messages - I was so focused on checking my bank account that I almost forgot to keep an eye on my UI Online inbox. Thanks for sharing these practical tips!

I went through this exact same situation about 2 months ago when I first switched from the Money Network card to direct deposit. My payment showed "paid" on a Tuesday and I didn't see the money in my Wells Fargo account until the following Tuesday - so 7 full days. I was stressed because I had already made plans based on the "24-48 hours" timeline they advertise. What I learned is that they really should update their website to be more realistic about first-time direct deposit delays. The verification process they do behind the scenes takes way longer than they let on. But the good news is every payment after that has been super consistent - always hits my account within 2-3 business days max. Hang in there, your money is coming!

Thanks for sharing your experience! It's really reassuring to hear from someone who went through the exact same timeline. A full 7 days is definitely longer than anyone expects based on their website, but at least now I know this is completely normal for the first payment. I'm glad to hear that subsequent payments are so much more reliable - 2-3 business days sounds way more reasonable. It really does seem like EDD needs to update their messaging about first-time direct deposit delays to manage expectations better. Your experience with Wells Fargo matches what others have said about different banks, so it seems like the delay is definitely on EDD's verification side, not the banks.

I'm going through this exact same thing right now! My payment was marked "paid" on Wednesday and it's now Saturday with nothing in my Bank of America account yet. Reading through all these comments has been incredibly helpful - I had no idea that the first direct deposit could take up to 7 business days while they verify everything. EDD's website really needs to be more upfront about this timeline instead of just saying "24-48 hours" which clearly doesn't apply to first-time setups. I'm going to try calling BofA's automated system like someone suggested to check for pending ACH deposits, and I'll definitely set up those mobile alerts for future payments. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences - it's so much less stressful knowing this is completely normal!

You're definitely not alone in this! It sounds like you're right on track with the typical timeline everyone else has shared. Since your payment was marked "paid" on Wednesday, you're probably looking at early next week for it to actually hit your account. The BofA automated system trick is really smart - I wish I had known about that when I was going through the same anxiety. It's so frustrating that EDD doesn't make this verification process more transparent, but at least this community has figured out the real timelines! Keep us posted on when yours comes through - it helps everyone else who's waiting too.

I'm currently dealing with this same situation and this thread has been a lifesaver! My certification went through last Thursday and shows "paid" as of Monday, but still nothing in my account (using Credit Union). I was starting to panic because I've never used direct deposit with EDD before - only ever had the Money Network card. Based on everyone's experiences here, it sounds like I should expect to wait until at least Wednesday or Thursday of next week before getting worried. I had no clue about the verification process taking so long for the first payment. Really wish EDD would just be honest about the actual timeline instead of getting people's hopes up with that "24-48 hours" nonsense. Going to call my credit union tomorrow to check for pending ACH transfers and set up those mobile alerts. Thanks to everyone who shared their experiences - knowing this is normal makes the wait so much more bearable!
