EDD direct deposit timeline - how long after payment shows 'paid' to hit bank account?

I finally got approved for UI benefits last week after waiting forever, and immediately set up direct deposit through the UI Online portal. Yesterday my account shows my first certification was processed and says 'paid' with today's date, but nothing has shown up in my checking account yet. For those who use direct deposit, how long does it typically take between when EDD shows payment as 'paid' and when the money actually hits your bank account? Is it usually same-day, next business day, or longer? I've got rent due soon and trying to plan accordingly!

Generally, it takes 24-48 hours after EDD shows "paid" status for the direct deposit to reach your bank account. This depends on your bank's processing time. Some banks make funds available immediately, while others might hold it for a day or two. If you set up direct deposit recently, the first payment might take slightly longer as the system verifies your banking information. If you don't see it by the third business day, you should contact EDD to make sure there wasn't an issue with your banking details.

Thank you! That's a relief. My bank usually processes direct deposits pretty quickly so I'm hoping it shows up tomorrow morning. It's my first payment so maybe that's why it's taking a bit longer.

mine always comes the next day after it says paid!! never had a problem with direct deposit

My experience has been TERRIBLE with EDD direct deposit! They claimed my payment was issued but it took 6 DAYS to hit my account!!! And when I called they just told me to "wait" and wouldn't give me any real answers. My friend got her money in 24 hours with the same bank so something is definitely wrong with their system. MAKE SURE you triple check your account numbers when you enter them because one wrong digit and your money disappears into the void!!!

That's odd, I've never had it take longer than 48 hours. Does your bank normally hold deposits? Some banks have different policies for government payments versus regular direct deposits. Wells Fargo holds mine for exactly 24 hours every time, not a minute less.

congrats on getting approved! waiting is the worst part lol

For direct deposit, my experience has been consistent: if EDD shows payment as "paid" on Monday-Thursday, funds appear in my bank account the next business day. If it shows "paid" on Friday, the money typically posts to my account on Monday (unless there's a holiday). One thing to note - make sure that your direct deposit information is entered correctly. I've seen cases where people transposed digits in their account numbers, and this caused significant delays. You can verify your account info under the "Profile" section of UI Online. Also, if you're switching from the Money Network card to direct deposit, sometimes there's a transition period where one last payment might go to the card before all future payments go to your bank account.

Thanks! I double-checked my account info and it's all correct. I certified on Sunday and it shows paid as of Tuesday (today), so hopefully it'll appear tomorrow morning. I wasn't on the Money Network card before - this is my first payment ever from EDD.

I have BofA. It usually processes my paycheck direct deposits the same day they're sent, so I'm hoping EDD works the same way!

If you're really worried about timing for your rent, you might want to try using Claimyr to reach an EDD rep directly. I couldn't get through to EDD for days using the regular number - always got the "too many callers" message. Claimyr got me connected to a live agent in about 20 minutes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km. The agent was able to tell me exactly when my deposit would hit and explained why there was a delay with my first payment. Saved me a ton of stress since I also had rent coming due.

does this actually work?? i hate calling edd, always busy

Wait I just had a thought... are u using the same bank account that u have registered with the franchise tax board? My cousin said his got delayed because EDD cross-checked with FTB and the accounts didn't match and they had to verify his identity AGAIN even though he already did the whole ID.me thing!!

0 coins

This isn't accurate. EDD doesn't automatically cross-check your bank account with the Franchise Tax Board. While EDD may conduct identity verification when you first set up direct deposit, they don't regularly compare banking information with FTB. Once your direct deposit is set up successfully, payments should process normally regardless of what account you use for tax refunds.

my payment hit literally while i was sleeping lol checked at midnight nothing there woke up at 7am and boom money in account like magic

Just to follow up on this thread: if your direct deposit doesn't arrive within 3 business days after showing "paid" in UI Online, you should take these steps: 1. Verify your account information is correct in UI Online 2. Contact your bank to see if they're holding the deposit 3. Call EDD to confirm the payment was properly processed to your account In most cases, it's just a timing issue, but occasionally there can be a technical problem that needs addressing. It's better to be proactive rather than waiting too long and missing your rent deadline.

Update: The money hit my account this morning! Took about 36 hours from when it showed 'paid' in the system. Thanks everyone for your help!

That's awesome news! 36 hours is pretty typical for most banks. Glad you got it sorted before rent was due. For future reference, BofA is usually one of the faster banks for processing EDD deposits, so you can probably expect similar timing going forward. The first payment sometimes takes a bit longer as the system gets everything set up, but subsequent payments should be even quicker!

Great to hear you got your money! Just wanted to add that if anyone is still waiting on their first direct deposit, don't panic if it takes a little longer than usual. The initial setup can sometimes cause a slight delay while EDD verifies everything on their end. I remember being super anxious about my first payment too, but once the system has you set up, future payments are much more predictable. Also, pro tip: if you have mobile banking, enable push notifications for deposits so you know the moment it hits your account!

This is such great advice! I'm still pretty new to all this and was definitely stressing about the timing. The mobile banking notification tip is brilliant - I just turned that on so I'll know immediately when future payments come through. It's reassuring to know that the first payment might just take a little extra time while they get everything verified. Thanks for sharing your experience!

I've been getting EDD direct deposits for about 6 months now and here's what I've noticed: Chase Bank typically processes mine within 24 hours, but during holiday weekends it can take up to 3 business days. The key thing is that once EDD shows "paid" the money is definitely on its way - it's just a matter of your bank's processing schedule. I'd recommend setting up account alerts so you get notified the moment it hits. Also, keep in mind that EDD usually processes payments in batches, so if you certified later in the day it might not show as "paid" until the next business day. Hang in there, the waiting gets easier once you know your bank's pattern!

This is really helpful info! I'm just starting out with EDD payments and was wondering about the batch processing part you mentioned. Do you know roughly what time of day EDD usually processes those batches? I certified my claim yesterday evening around 6pm and I'm curious if that might delay when it shows as "paid" compared to if I had certified in the morning. Thanks for sharing your experience - it's nice to hear from someone who's been through this cycle multiple times!

From what I've observed, EDD typically processes certification batches overnight, usually between midnight and 6am Pacific time. So if you certified at 6pm yesterday, it would likely get processed in the early morning batch and show as "paid" sometime today. The timing of when you certify doesn't seem to make a huge difference - whether you do it at 9am or 9pm, it usually gets picked up in the next overnight processing cycle. That said, I've noticed that certifying on Sunday nights can sometimes take until Tuesday to show as "paid" since Monday mornings tend to have larger batches to process. Hope that helps with your timing expectations!

I've been using direct deposit with EDD for about 8 months now and can confirm what others have said - it's pretty consistent once you get the hang of it. With most major banks (I use Wells Fargo), you're looking at 24-48 hours after the "paid" status appears. The first payment can sometimes take an extra day since they're verifying everything is set up correctly. One thing I learned the hard way - make sure you don't change your banking info right before a payment is due to process, because that can cause delays while they reverify everything. Also, if you ever need to update your direct deposit info, do it right after you certify so you have maximum time before the next payment cycle. Good luck with your future payments!

Thanks for sharing your long-term experience! That's a really good point about not changing banking info right before a payment - I hadn't thought about that but it makes total sense that it would cause delays while they reverify. I'm still on my first few payments so hearing from someone who's been doing this for 8 months is super reassuring. The timing you mentioned matches what I've been seeing so far. Quick question - have you ever had any issues with Wells Fargo holding the deposits longer than usual, or are they pretty consistent with the 24-48 hour window?

0 coins

Wells Fargo has been really consistent for me - almost always exactly 24 hours from when EDD shows "paid" to when it hits my account. I think I've only had it take the full 48 hours maybe twice, and that was during holiday weeks when everything was running slower. They don't seem to hold EDD deposits any longer than regular payroll deposits, which is nice. The only time I had a longer delay was when I accidentally entered my routing number wrong on a banking update - took them 5 days to figure that out and get it corrected! But as long as your info is accurate, Wells Fargo is pretty reliable with EDD payments.

I've been receiving EDD payments for about 4 months now and wanted to share my timeline with different banks since I've had to switch accounts twice due to bank closures. With Bank of America (like you have), my payments typically arrived within 24-36 hours of showing "paid" - very reliable timing. When I switched to a local credit union, it took a full 48-72 hours every time, which was frustrating when trying to budget. Now I'm back with a major bank (US Bank) and it's back to the 24-48 hour range. The key thing I learned is that your bank's size and processing capabilities really do matter for timing. Since you're with BofA, you should expect pretty quick turnaround once the system gets familiar with your account after this first payment. Also, I always screenshot when it shows "paid" so I have a record of the date/time if I ever need to follow up!

This is really valuable insight about how different banks handle EDD deposits! I'm glad to hear that BofA is on the faster side - that gives me confidence for future payments. The screenshot tip is brilliant, I never would have thought of that but it's such a smart way to keep track of timing and have documentation if needed. It's interesting how much the bank type matters - I wouldn't have expected such a big difference between major banks and credit unions for government payments. Thanks for sharing your experience across multiple banks, it really helps set expectations!

For what it's worth, I've been getting EDD payments via direct deposit for about a year now, and Bank of America has been consistently one of the fastest banks in my experience. You should typically see your funds within 24-36 hours once it shows "paid" in the system. The first payment sometimes takes a bit longer as others mentioned - mine took about 48 hours initially while they verified everything was set up correctly. After that, it's been like clockwork. BofA usually processes EDD deposits overnight, so if your payment shows "paid" on a Tuesday, you'll likely see it Wednesday morning when you check your account. Since you mentioned rent is due soon, you should be in good shape timing-wise! Just make sure to check your account early in the morning rather than late at night, as that's typically when BofA posts overnight deposits.

0 coins

That's super helpful to know about BofA's overnight processing schedule! I'll definitely check first thing in the morning rather than staying up late refreshing my account. It's reassuring to hear from someone who's been getting payments for a full year - gives me confidence that once this first payment goes through smoothly, the rest should be pretty predictable. The 24-36 hour timeline you mentioned aligns perfectly with what I experienced, so it sounds like BofA is definitely one of the more reliable options for EDD deposits. Thanks for the detailed breakdown of the timing!

0 coins

I've been getting EDD direct deposits for about 3 months now and wanted to add my experience with timing. With most banks, including BofA which you mentioned having, the deposits typically post during the early morning hours (usually between 2-6 AM) on the business day after EDD shows "paid." So if your payment shows paid today (Tuesday), you'd likely see it in your account Wednesday morning. The first payment can definitely take a bit longer - mine took almost 3 days initially while they verified everything. But once you're in the system, it becomes very predictable. One tip: I set up low balance alerts on my account so I get a text the moment any deposit hits, which helps me know immediately when the EDD payment comes through rather than constantly checking my balance!

0 coins

That's really helpful about the early morning processing window! I never knew banks typically post deposits between 2-6 AM - that explains why I sometimes see money in my account when I wake up even though it wasn't there the night before. The low balance alert tip is genius! I just set that up so I'll get notified the moment anything hits my account. It's so much better than obsessively checking my banking app every few hours. Thanks for sharing your experience - it's really reassuring to hear that after the first payment verification period, everything becomes much more predictable!

I've been receiving EDD payments for about 2 months now and wanted to share my experience with timing since I know how stressful that first payment can be! With direct deposit, I've found it's incredibly consistent once you get past the initial setup. My bank (Chase) typically posts EDD deposits within 24-48 hours of the "paid" status appearing in UI Online. The very first payment took about 3 days because they had to verify all my banking information, but every payment since then has been like clockwork - usually hits my account the next morning after it shows paid. Since you mentioned having BofA, you should expect similar or even faster timing since they're generally pretty quick with government deposits. The key is just being patient with that first one while they get everything verified in their system. After that, you can pretty much count on consistent timing for budgeting purposes!

0 coins

Thanks for sharing your experience! It's really reassuring to hear from someone who's been through the process recently. The 3-day verification period for the first payment seems pretty standard based on what everyone's saying, so I'm feeling more confident about the timing now. It's good to know that Chase has similar processing times to BofA - makes me think most of the major banks are pretty consistent with EDD deposits once you're set up. I'm definitely looking forward to having that predictable timing for budgeting once I get past this first payment anxiety! Really appreciate you taking the time to share your timeline.

I'm new to EDD but wanted to share what I learned when setting up direct deposit last month. The customer service rep I spoke with mentioned that BofA is actually one of their preferred banking partners, so deposits usually process faster than with smaller banks. She said to expect 1-2 business days max for BofA customers. One thing that helped me was logging into my BofA app and enabling "Real-time Alerts" for any deposit over $1 - that way you get an instant push notification the moment anything hits your account instead of having to keep checking manually. Also, if you're really worried about timing, you can always call BofA directly and ask if they're holding any pending government deposits - sometimes they can see them in the system before they officially post to your account balance. Hope this helps ease some of the anxiety!

This is really helpful information! I didn't know that BofA was actually a preferred banking partner with EDD - that definitely makes me feel more confident about the timing. I just enabled those real-time alerts you mentioned, and that's such a smart idea to set it for deposits over $1 so I'll catch everything. The tip about calling BofA to check for pending government deposits is brilliant too - I never would have thought they might be able to see it in their system before it shows in my account balance. Thanks for sharing what the EDD rep told you about the 1-2 business day timeline for BofA customers specifically. That's way more reassuring than the generic "3-5 business days" you usually see!

I've been getting EDD direct deposits for almost a year now with several different banks, and I can definitely confirm that BofA is one of the most reliable for timing! Your 36-hour experience sounds totally normal for a first payment. What I've learned is that EDD typically sends out their ACH transfers in batches overnight (usually around 1-3 AM), and then it's up to your bank's processing schedule from there. BofA usually posts government deposits pretty quickly - most of mine have hit within 24-48 hours. One thing that really helped my peace of mind was setting up text alerts for any deposit activity, so I'd get notified the instant money hit my account instead of constantly refreshing my banking app. Also, pro tip for future payments: the timing becomes super predictable once you've had a few cycles, so you'll be able to plan your budget much more confidently going forward!

This is super helpful, especially knowing about the overnight ACH batch processing! I just got my first payment after 36 hours like you mentioned, and it's such a relief to know that timing will become more predictable. I definitely set up those text alerts after reading all these suggestions - game changer for not having to constantly check the app! It's really reassuring to hear from someone who's been through almost a year of payments that BofA stays consistent. Looking forward to having that predictable budget planning you mentioned once I get a few more payment cycles under my belt. Thanks for sharing your experience!

I've been receiving EDD payments through direct deposit for about 5 months now, and I can confirm what others have said about BofA being pretty reliable! Your 36-hour timeline for the first payment sounds exactly right. What I've noticed is that once EDD processes your certification and shows "paid," they typically send the ACH transfer to banks within 4-6 hours, but then each bank has its own posting schedule. BofA usually processes government deposits during their overnight cycle, so if EDD shows "paid" on Tuesday afternoon, you'll likely see it Wednesday morning. The first payment always takes a bit longer because they verify your account details, but after that it becomes very consistent. One thing that helped me a lot was downloading the BofA mobile app and turning on push notifications for deposits - that way I know the second it hits instead of constantly checking. Also, for future reference, EDD payments usually post earlier in the week than later, so Monday-Wednesday "paid" dates typically result in faster deposit times than Thursday-Friday. Glad you got your first payment sorted out!

•

This is such comprehensive information, thank you! The timeline you laid out about EDD sending ACH transfers within 4-6 hours and then banks processing overnight makes so much sense. I never realized there was a difference in timing based on what day of the week it shows "paid" - that's really good to know for future planning. I already downloaded the BofA app and set up those push notifications after reading everyone's suggestions, and you're right that it's so much better than constantly refreshing! It's really reassuring to hear from someone with 5 months of experience that the consistency gets much better after that first verification payment. Thanks for breaking down the whole process so clearly!

Just wanted to add my experience for anyone else reading this thread - I've been getting EDD direct deposits for about 7 months now and the timing has been incredibly consistent once you get past that first payment. With most major banks like BofA, Chase, Wells Fargo, etc., you can expect 24-48 hours from "paid" status to funds in your account. The first payment often takes 48-72 hours while they verify everything, but after that it becomes very predictable. One thing I wish someone had told me early on is that EDD processes payments in the early morning hours (usually between 2-5 AM Pacific), so if your payment shows "paid" late in the day, it might not actually get sent to your bank until the next morning's batch. This can add an extra day to the timeline. Also, weekends don't count as business days, so Friday "paid" dates usually mean Monday deposits. Setting up mobile banking alerts for deposits over $1 is a game changer - you'll know the instant it hits without having to constantly check your balance!
