EDD payment authorized but not received - typical timeline?
Hi everyone, I just checked my UI Online account and saw my weekly certification was finally processed and shows 'payment authorized' as of yesterday morning. Super relieved after waiting so long, but now I'm wondering how much longer until the money actually hits my account? This is my first time collecting unemployment and I selected direct deposit when I applied. Is it usually a few days or could it take weeks? I've got rent due next Friday and really need this payment to come through. Anyone have recent experience with how long the wait is between 'authorized' and actually getting the money?

For direct deposit, once your payment shows as 'authorized,' it generally takes 1-2 business days for the funds to appear in your bank account. Sometimes it can process overnight! If you're using the EDD Money Network debit card instead, it typically takes 2-3 business days for the funds to load onto your card after authorization. Since you mentioned this is your first payment, make sure your bank account details were entered correctly in the system. You can verify this in your UI Online account under 'Payment Methods.

Be careful!!! Sometimes the EDD system says 'payment authorized' but then it gets stuck in 'pending' for WEEKS afterward!!!! I had this happen 3 times during my claim last year where it would show authorized then change back to pending with NO EXPLANATION. I had to call them like 50 times to fix it each time!!! Check your payment history tab too not just the main screen!!!!

•Oh no, that sounds awful! Now I'm worried... When I look in payment history it still says authorized. Is that a good sign or could it still change? This whole process is so confusing.

•Don't panic - what the previous commenter described is unusual. While payment status can occasionally change from 'authorized' to 'pending' if there's an issue flagged in the system, it's quite rare. Most payments process normally within the timeframes I mentioned above. If your payment history shows 'authorized,' you're likely fine. The status would explicitly say 'pending' if there was a hold.

When I filed last year I remember waiting almost a week for my first payment after it was authorized. Every payment after that came quicker though, usually 2 days. I think they do extra verification on the first payment or something. Good luck with your rent!

The timeframe depends on both EDD processing and your bank's deposit policies. For direct deposit: - EDD typically processes the payment within 24-48 hours after authorization - Your bank may hold the deposit for an additional 1-2 business days - First-time payments sometimes take slightly longer due to initial verification processes Weekend and holiday processing times vary. If it's been more than 5 business days since authorization, that would be unusual and worth contacting EDD about. Your payment history in UI Online will update to show 'paid' once the money has been sent to your bank.

•This is super detailed, thank you! It authorized on Tuesday so based on what you're saying, I should probably see it by Friday? That would be perfect timing for my rent. I'm going to keep checking my account.

i was on unemployment in 2021 and then again in 2024 and both times the first payment was the slowest but still came within a week. its weird how the system works sometimes huh

If you need to reach EDD to check on your payment status and can't get through on the phone, I recently discovered a service called Claimyr that helped me get through to an EDD rep in about 20 minutes when I was having issues with my claim. They basically navigate the EDD phone system for you and call you back when they have an agent on the line. Saved me days of frustration! Their website is claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km. The rep I got confirmed my payment was processing correctly and gave me peace of mind.

when i had direct deposit set up it usually took like 2 days after authorized but then i switched to the money network card and it takes 3-4 days for some reason? idk why the card is slower but it is

•Interesting - I chose direct deposit because I thought it would be faster! Sounds like that was the right choice. Thanks for sharing your experience.

Just to update you - if your payment was authorized Tuesday, it should have hit your account by now or will arrive today (Friday). If you don't see it by Monday, there could be one of several issues: 1. Your bank information may be incorrect in the system 2. Your bank may have a hold on new direct deposits 3. There might be a verification flag on your claim If Monday comes and you still don't have your payment, call EDD first thing in the morning (8:00 AM) when their lines are least busy. Let us know if you need additional help!

•Great news - it just posted to my account this morning! Exactly as many of you predicted, it took about 2 business days after the authorization. Such a relief to have this before rent is due. Thanks everyone for all your help and advice!

That's awesome news! So glad it worked out and you got your payment in time for rent. This is exactly why I love this community - everyone sharing their experiences really helps newcomers navigate the EDD system. Your timeline (authorized Tuesday, received Friday) seems pretty typical for direct deposit. Hopefully your future payments will come even faster now that you're in the system!

•So happy to hear it worked out! I'm new to unemployment too and was really worried about the timing after reading some of the horror stories online. It's reassuring to see that the system usually works as expected. Thanks to everyone who shared their experiences - it really helps to know what's normal vs what to worry about!

Glad everything worked out for you! This is such a helpful thread - I'm currently waiting for my first payment to be authorized and was getting anxious about the timeline. Seeing that it typically takes 2-3 business days from authorization to deposit really puts my mind at ease. I'll definitely bookmark this for reference when mine hopefully gets authorized soon. Thanks to everyone who shared their real experiences instead of just speculation!

•This thread has been so helpful for me too! I just started my claim process last week and was feeling overwhelmed by all the different timelines I was reading about online. It's really reassuring to see actual experiences from people who've gone through this recently. The fact that most people are getting their payments within 2-3 business days after authorization gives me hope that the system isn't as broken as some of the horror stories make it seem. Fingers crossed my certification gets processed soon!

This whole thread is exactly what I needed to see! I'm in week 3 of waiting for my initial claim to be processed and have been so stressed about the timeline. Reading everyone's real experiences - especially that most people get their money within 2-3 business days after authorization - is incredibly reassuring. The EDD website doesn't give clear timelines so having actual community experiences is invaluable. I'm bookmarking this thread for when (hopefully!) my payment gets authorized. Thanks to everyone for sharing their stories instead of just doom and gloom - it really helps us newcomers know what's normal!
