Just approved for ESD benefits - when will my first payment hit my bank account?
I finally got approved for unemployment last week and received all my back pay (huge relief after waiting so long!). Yesterday I filed my weekly claim online for the first time since being approved, and I'm wondering when I can expect the payment to hit my bank account. Does anyone know the typical timeline from filing to deposit for direct deposit? I've got bills coming due and need to plan accordingly. Thanks in advance for any info!

Congrats on getting approved! For direct deposit, ESD typically processes payments within 2 business days after you file your weekly claim. So if you filed on Sunday, you might see it by Tuesday or Wednesday. However, it can sometimes take up to 3 business days depending on your bank's processing time. Make sure your direct deposit info is correct in eServices to avoid any delays.

•Thanks for the quick response! That's helpful to know. I filed on Monday actually, so sounds like I should see it by Wednesday or Thursday potentially? I double-checked my direct deposit info and it's all correct.

•Good point about checking pending transactions. I'll keep an eye on that too!

When mine got approved, my first payment took an extra day compared to later payments. I think they do some extra verification the first time. So don't panic if it takes a bit longer than what others are saying! After that first one, it became super consistent - file Sunday, money on Tuesday like clockwork.

Does anyone know if holidays affect ESD payment processing? President's Day is coming up and I'm wondering if that will push everything back a day.

•Yes, holidays definitely affect payment processing. ESD doesn't process claims on federal holidays, so if a holiday falls on a processing day, you can expect a one-day delay. For example, if you normally receive payment on Tuesday but Monday is a holiday, you'd likely receive it on Wednesday instead.

I've had SO many issues with ESD payment timing that I finally gave up trying to predict it exactly. Some weeks it's 2 days, some weeks it's 4 days from filing. Their system is BROKEN! Just last month they put my claim on hold for "verification" without even telling me and I had to call 97 TIMES to get through to anyone who could help. If you start having issues getting through on the phone, I recommend using Claimyr (claimyr.com) - they've got a system that helps you get through to ESD without spending your whole day redialing. Saved my sanity! They have a video that shows how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3

•That sounds frustrating! I'll keep that service in mind if I start having trouble. For now, I'm just hoping my payments come through consistently without any unexpected holds.

Just wanted to add that you should always file your weekly claim on Sunday if possible. Filing earlier in the week gives ESD more processing time and generally means you'll get paid faster. Also, set up email alerts in your eServices account so you get notified when a payment is processed - that way you'll know exactly when to expect it in your bank account.

•That's great advice about the email alerts - I didn't know about that feature! I'll set that up right away. And I'll make sure to file on Sundays going forward rather than waiting until Monday.

UPDATE: Just got my payment this morning (Wednesday)! So it took exactly 2 business days from when I filed on Monday. Thanks everyone for your help!

•Great to hear! That's the typical timeline working as expected. Now that you've received your first payment after approval, the subsequent ones should follow the same pattern as long as there are no issues with your weekly claims.
