EDD direct deposit to Bank of America - how long until payment hits my account?
Just got my first payment authorized yesterday (showing as 'paid' on UI Online) and I selected direct deposit for receiving funds. Anyone know typically how long it takes for the money to actually hit my Bank of America account? Is it usually same-day or does it take a few business days? This is my first time on unemployment and I've got rent coming up fast. 🙏

•Thanks! That's helpful. I was hoping it would be instant since it's already showing as paid, but I guess I'll have to wait a bit longer.

For direct deposit, EDD typically processes payments within 24-48 hours after showing 'paid' in UI Online. Bank of America specifically can take an additional business day to post the deposit to your account after receiving it from EDD. So all told, you're typically looking at 2-3 business days from the 'paid' status until it's available in your account. Weekends and holidays don't count as business days, so keep that in mind. If you see 'paid' on a Friday, for example, you might not see the money until Tuesday or Wednesday.

•Ugh, that's what I was afraid of. Seems like everything with EDD takes forever. Really appreciate the detailed info though!

My last claim took FOUR DAYS to hit my account after status changed to paid!!! And EDD kept saying it was the bank's fault while BofA said they hadn't received anything yet. SO FRUSTRATING dealing with this system!!!!

•That's not typical. Direct deposit usually follows a consistent schedule unless there's a banking holiday or weekend. First payments can sometimes take a bit longer as the system verifies your banking information, but subsequent payments should be more predictable. If your payment takes more than 3 business days, there might be an issue worth investigating.

If you need to check on your payment status and can't get through to EDD on the phone (which happens ALL the time), I'd recommend trying Claimyr. They helped me get through to an actual EDD rep when my payment was delayed last month. Their system connects you directly with an agent instead of dealing with the busy signals and disconnects. I found them at claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km. Super helpful when you need answers about payment timing.

•Thanks for the recommendation! I'll keep that in mind if my payment doesn't show up in the next couple days. It's good to know there's a way to actually reach someone if I need to.

When I was on unemployment last year my BofA deposits were usually showing up 2 business days after the payment was approved. I remember one time I checked my UI Online on Monday morning, saw it was paid, and the money was in my account Wednesday morning like clockwork. EDD processes everything in batches overnight from what I understand.

•yeah thats how its suposed to work but sometimes the system glitches and takes longer i had to wait a whole week once because of some "system error" they said

One important thing to note: if this is your very first payment after establishing your claim, it can sometimes take 1-2 days longer than subsequent payments. This is because the banking information is being verified in the system for the first time. After that, the timeline should be more consistent. So don't panic if this first one takes 3-4 business days - future payments should be faster.

•Good to know about the first payment potentially taking longer! I'll keep that in mind and try not to stress too much. Thanks for the heads up - this definitely helps set my expectations.

I've been dealing with EDD payments for about 6 months now and with Bank of America specifically, here's what I've noticed: Tuesday and Wednesday seem to be the most common days for deposits to hit, regardless of when the payment shows as "paid" in the system. I think this has to do with how EDD batches their ACH transfers. Also, if you're really tight on money for rent, you might want to call your landlord and give them a heads up that payment might be a day or two late - most are understanding about unemployment situations, especially if you communicate early. Hang in there!

•That's really helpful insight about Tuesday/Wednesday being common deposit days! I hadn't thought about the ACH batching schedule but that makes total sense. And you're absolutely right about communicating with the landlord early - I'll definitely give them a heads up just in case. Thanks for the practical advice, it's reassuring to hear from someone who's been through this process multiple times. @Omar Fawaz

I'm also dealing with my first EDD payment and Bank of America - this thread has been super helpful! One thing I wanted to add is that you can check your BofA account online or through their app to see if there are any pending deposits. Sometimes the money shows up as "pending" before it's actually available, which at least gives you confirmation that it's on the way. Also, if you're really stressed about timing, BofA customer service can sometimes see incoming ACH transfers in their system before they post to your account. Worth a call if you need peace of mind!

•Thanks for mentioning the pending deposits tip! I just checked my BofA app and don't see anything pending yet, but it's only been about 24 hours since it showed paid. I'll definitely keep checking throughout the day. The idea about calling BofA customer service is smart too - I might try that tomorrow if I still don't see anything. It's reassuring to connect with others going through the same situation for the first time!

Hey everyone! Just wanted to share my experience since I went through this exact same situation a few months ago. My first EDD payment to Bank of America took exactly 3 business days from when it showed "paid" in UI Online. I was super anxious about it too because I had bills due, but it came through on Wednesday morning after showing paid on Friday. What really helped was downloading the BofA mobile app and turning on push notifications for deposits - that way I got an alert the moment it hit my account at like 6:30 AM. Also, pro tip: if you log into your BofA account online (not the app), sometimes you can see pending ACH transfers under the account activity section even before they officially post. Good luck with your payment Alice, it'll come through!

•This is exactly what I needed to hear! Thank you so much for sharing your timeline - knowing that 3 business days is normal for the first payment really helps calm my nerves. I just downloaded the BofA app and set up those push notifications like you suggested. Also going to check that online account activity section you mentioned to look for pending transfers. It's such a relief to hear from someone who went through the exact same situation and everything worked out fine. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience! @Aisha Abdullah

Just wanted to jump in as someone who's been on EDD for about a year now with Bank of America direct deposit. The timing really does vary, but here's what I've consistently seen: first payments almost always take the full 2-3 business days because of the initial verification process, but after that it's usually pretty predictable. One thing that helped me a lot was setting up a separate savings account at BofA specifically for my EDD payments - that way I could track exactly when deposits hit without it getting mixed up with other transactions. Also, if you're worried about rent timing in the future, many landlords will accept a screenshot of your UI Online showing "paid" status as proof that payment is coming, especially if you've been a good tenant. The EDD system is frustrating but it does work eventually. Hang in there!

•That's such a smart idea about setting up a separate account for EDD payments - I never would have thought of that! It would definitely make it easier to track and budget. And the tip about showing landlords the "paid" screenshot is really helpful too. I'm feeling much more confident about this whole process after reading everyone's experiences. It sounds like as long as I'm patient for this first payment, the future ones should be more predictable. Thanks for sharing your insights from a year of dealing with this system! @Liam O'Connor

I went through this same situation about 6 months ago with my first EDD payment to Bank of America. Mine took exactly 2 business days - I saw "paid" on a Tuesday morning and the money was in my account Thursday morning around 7 AM. What really helped me was calling BofA's automated phone line (the 24/7 one) and checking my account balance multiple times a day - sometimes deposits show up there before they appear in the mobile app. Also, if you're really stressed about rent timing, you can try calling your bank and asking if they can see any incoming ACH transfers in the system. They won't always tell you, but some customer service reps are helpful. The waiting is definitely nerve-wracking when you have bills due, but in my experience EDD payments to BofA are pretty reliable once they show as paid in the system. Good luck!

•Thanks for sharing your timeline Ryan! That 2-day timeframe sounds really encouraging. I like the idea of calling the BofA automated line - I didn't even think about that being different from checking the app or online. Going to try that later today to see if there's any difference in what shows up. It's so reassuring to hear from multiple people that the payments really do come through reliably once they show as paid, even if the timing varies a bit. The waiting is definitely the hardest part when you're counting on that money! @Ryan Vasquez

I'm in the exact same boat as you! Just had my first payment show as "paid" yesterday too and I'm using Bank of America for direct deposit. Reading through all these responses is making me feel so much better about the timeline. It sounds like 2-3 business days is pretty normal for the first payment, and I love all the tips people shared about setting up account alerts and checking the automated phone line. Going to try some of these tricks while I wait. It's nice to know there are others going through this process at the same time - we're all in this together! Fingers crossed both our payments hit soon 🤞

•That's so crazy that we're going through this at the exact same time! It definitely makes me feel less alone in this whole process. I'm going to try calling that BofA automated line that Ryan mentioned and see if anything shows up there. All these tips from everyone have been so helpful - I feel like I have a whole game plan now instead of just anxiously checking my account every hour. Hope we both see our deposits hit soon! Keep me posted on how yours goes 🤞 @Lucy Taylor

I just went through this exact situation last month with BofA! My first EDD payment took 3 full business days to hit my account after showing "paid" in UI Online. What helped me track it was logging into BofA online (not the app) and checking the "Account Activity" section - sometimes pending ACH deposits show up there first. Also, if you're really anxious about the timing, you can call BofA customer service and ask if they can see any incoming government deposits in their system. Some reps will tell you even if it hasn't posted yet. The first payment is always the longest wait because they're verifying your banking info, but after that it's usually much more consistent. Don't stress too much - it will come through!

•Thanks so much Jamal! That 3-day timeline matches what a few other people have said, so it sounds like that's pretty typical for first payments. I'm definitely going to try that tip about checking the Account Activity section online - I've been mostly using the mobile app so I hadn't thought to look there. And calling BofA customer service to ask about incoming government deposits is a great idea too. It's really comforting to know that after this first payment the timing should be more predictable. All these detailed experiences from everyone are helping me stay patient instead of panicking about my rent deadline! @Jamal Carter

I've been getting EDD payments to Bank of America for about 8 months now, and I can confirm what others are saying about the first payment taking longer. Mine took almost 4 business days the very first time, but now my regular payments usually hit within 24-48 hours after showing paid. One thing I learned that might help - if you have the BofA mobile app, go to "Manage Alerts" in settings and set up a custom alert for deposits over $100 (or whatever amount your payment is). That way you'll get notified immediately when it hits, even if it's at like 3 AM. Also, EDD typically processes their batch payments overnight Monday through Friday, so weekend "paid" status usually means you won't see the deposit until Tuesday at the earliest. The system is slow but it's reliable - your money will definitely come through!

•This is super helpful, especially knowing that first payments can take up to 4 days! I was starting to worry something was wrong, but it sounds like that's totally normal. Just set up that custom deposit alert you mentioned - great tip about setting it for the specific payment amount. And good point about weekend timing - since mine showed paid yesterday I'm probably looking at Tuesday/Wednesday realistically. It's so reassuring to hear from someone who's been through this process for 8 months that the system really is reliable, just slow. Thanks for sharing your experience! @Luca Conti

I'm going through the exact same thing right now! My payment just showed as "paid" this morning and I'm also using Bank of America for direct deposit. Reading through everyone's experiences here is really reassuring - sounds like 2-3 business days is pretty standard for first payments. I love all the practical tips people shared, especially about setting up the BofA deposit alerts and checking the Account Activity section online instead of just the mobile app. Going to try calling that automated BofA line someone mentioned too. It's nerve-wracking when you're waiting for that first payment and have bills coming up, but it sounds like the system really does work, just takes some patience. Thanks everyone for sharing your timelines - this thread is incredibly helpful for us newcomers to the EDD process!
