EDD direct deposit timing to Bank of America - same day or delay?
I just checked my UI Online account and saw my first unemployment payment was authorized yesterday for direct deposit (yay finally!). Does anyone know how long it typically takes for the money to actually hit my Bank of America account? Is it usually same-day or should I expect to wait a few days? I've got bills coming up and I'm trying to figure out if I can pay them today or need to wait. This is my first time on unemployment so I'm not familiar with the timing. Thanks in advance for any info!

EDD direct deposits to Bank of America typically take 24-48 hours to appear in your account after being authorized. I've been through this process a few times, and it's rarely same-day unless it was processed very early in the morning. If your payment was authorized yesterday, there's a good chance it will show up in your account today or tomorrow at the latest. You can also set up text alerts with your bank to notify you when the deposit hits. Hope that helps!

•Thank you! That's really helpful to know. I'll keep an eye on my account today and tomorrow then. Fingers crossed it comes through by tomorrow since I have rent due soon. I'll definitely set up those text alerts too - good idea!

•Thanks for sharing your experience! Seems like there's some variation then. I'll try not to worry too much if it doesn't show up right away.

The timing can depend on when the authorization happened. If it was authorized before 3pm, it often hits accounts the next business day. If after 3pm, it typically takes an additional business day. Also keep in mind that weekends and holidays can delay things. In my experience with BofA specifically, they sometimes hold EDD deposits for 24 hours before making the funds available, even though the deposit shows in your account. You might see it as "pending" before it's fully available.

•Oh that's good to know about the 3pm cutoff time. I'm not sure exactly when it was authorized yesterday, but I'll keep the potential BofA hold in mind. I hate how everything takes so long in the banking system when we need the money right away. Thanks for the detailed info!

I HAD BOFA TOO AND THEY WERE TERRIBLE!!!! Switched to direct deposit with my credit union and its WAY faster. BofA would always hold my unemployment money for no reason. The whole system is designed to make us suffer more i swear!!!!!

•Not everyone has issues with BofA though. I've been getting my EDD payments there for months with no problems. Usually takes just a day for me.

I've been through this exact situation with Bank of America. For me, it was consistently 1-2 business days after authorization. One thing to note - if this is your first payment, it sometimes takes slightly longer than subsequent payments. The system seems to process faster once the initial deposit connection is established. You might want to check if your BofA account shows any pending deposits - sometimes you can see it's coming before it's fully available.

•That makes a lot of sense about the first payment taking longer. I didn't think about that! I just checked my BofA app and don't see anything pending yet, but I'll keep checking throughout the day. Thanks for the help!

When I was waiting for my payments last year, I had the WORST time trying to get through to EDD to check on my deposits. Called like 50 times a day with no luck. Finally found this service called Claimyr that got me through to an EDD rep in under 20 minutes. You can check them out at claimyr.com - they have a video showing how it works at https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km. Seriously was a lifesaver when my payment was delayed and I needed to find out what was happening. Might be worth keeping in your back pocket if your deposit doesn't show up when expected.

•Thanks for the tip! I really hope I don't need to call EDD, but if my payment doesn't show up in the next couple days I might check out that service. I've heard the EDD phone lines are absolutely impossible to get through.

•This is actually true. The bank processing systems often run batch updates overnight, so many people see deposits appear very early in the morning. The official posting time varies by bank, but it's common to see transactions that were processed overnight appear between 2-6am.

Just to give you a heads up - once your direct deposit is set up and working properly, the timing tends to be very consistent. So however long this first one takes will likely be your regular timeline for future payments. It's a good idea to note the timing so you can plan your bill payments accordingly for future certifications.

UPDATE: My payment just hit my account about 10 minutes ago! So it took almost exactly 24 hours from when it was authorized. Thanks everyone for your help and advice! I'll know what to expect for future payments now.
