How long does unemployment take to get paid after NYS Department of Labor approval?
My unemployment claim was finally approved last Thursday after being in adjudication for 2 weeks. I certified for my first week yesterday but haven't seen any payment yet. I know they say 2-3 business days but I'm getting anxious because I have rent due Monday. For those who've been through this recently, how long did it actually take from approval to seeing money in your account? I'm on direct deposit if that makes a difference.

Usually takes 2-3 business days like they say, but sometimes the first payment is slower because they're setting up your account in their system. I got my first payment on day 4 but after that it was always exactly 2 business days. Make sure you check that your direct deposit info is correct in your my.ny.gov account.

•Thanks! I double checked and my bank info looks right. Guess I'll wait until Wednesday before I start worrying.

•Oh no, 6 days? Did you call your bank to ask why they held it?

The NYS Department of Labor processes payments Monday through Friday, so if you certified on a weekend your payment cycle starts the next business day. First payments can take 3-5 business days due to initial account setup and verification processes. After your first payment, subsequent weekly payments typically arrive within 2 business days of certification.

•That's really helpful to know about the weekend timing. I certified on Sunday so I guess the clock started Monday.

I had so much trouble getting through to anyone at NYS Department of Labor when my payment was delayed. Spent hours on hold just to get disconnected. Finally found this service called Claimyr that actually got me through to a real person in like 10 minutes. They have a video demo at https://youtu.be/qyftW-mnTNI and their site is claimyr.com. Might be worth it if you need to talk to someone about payment issues.

•How much does that cost though? Seems like you shouldn't have to pay extra just to talk to them.

•I was frustrated too but honestly it saved me so much time and stress. Way better than sitting on hold for hours and getting nowhere.

Just wait it out, it always comes eventually. The system is just slow especially for new claims.
