Washington ESD approved my claim - when will I actually get paid?
My unemployment claim finally got approved yesterday after 3 weeks of waiting! The portal shows my claim status changed from 'pending' to 'approved' but I haven't received any payment yet. Does anyone know how long it takes after approval to actually see money in your account? I'm using direct deposit and really need to know when to expect the funds since I'm behind on rent.

Usually takes 2-3 business days for direct deposit once your claim is approved. Make sure you filed your weekly claim for the weeks you're claiming benefits for - approval doesn't automatically pay you, you still need to certify each week.

•I did file my weekly claims already. So if I was approved Wednesday, I should see payment by Friday or Monday?

Oliver Alexander
•Yeah, Friday or Monday is realistic. Check your payment history in the portal to see if payment is showing as 'processed' - that means it's on the way.

•Thanks! Yeah the waiting was brutal. But still no idea when payment hits.

•Mine took about 2-3 business days after approval to show up in my account

same thing happened to me last month - got approved on a wednesday and money hit my account friday morning. but my friend waited a whole week so idk

•A whole week? That's scary. Did your friend have any issues with their claim?

Lara Woods
•no issues just slow processing i think. washington esd is just inconsistent with timing

Payment timing depends on when your weekly claim was processed. If you filed your weekly claim before approval, you should see payment within 2-3 business days. If you filed after approval, it might take up to 5 business days for the first payment to process through the system.

•I filed my weekly claim on Sunday before it got approved Monday. So hopefully soon!

•That's good timing. Check your payment information tab in your account - it should show pending payments once they're in the queue.

•where exactly do you find the payment information? I can never navigate that website properly

If you're not seeing payment within 5 business days, there might be an issue. I had to call Washington ESD to check on a payment delay once. Took forever to get through though - I actually used this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that helped me get connected to an agent faster. They have a demo video at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ showing how it works.

•How much does that cost? I'm already tight on money.

•It's worth it if you need to reach someone quickly. Much better than sitting on hold for hours or getting disconnected.

•Never heard of that service but might be useful. Washington ESD phone system is absolutely terrible.

I had the same situation last month and it was really frustrating not knowing when to expect money. Kept calling Washington ESD but could never get through to ask about payment timing. Finally found out about this service called Claimyr at claimyr.com that actually got me connected to an agent who explained the whole payment schedule. There's a video demo at https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ showing how it works.

•It was worth it for me to finally talk to someone who could explain what was happening with my payments. Way better than spending hours on hold.

•I used Claimyr too when I had payment issues. Really helped clarify the timeline instead of just guessing.

Payment timing depends on several factors: 1) When you filed your weekly claim 2) What day of the week your claim was approved 3) Banking processing times. Direct deposit is fastest - debit card payments can take longer.

Kaylee Cook
•I have direct deposit set up. Filed my weekly claim Sunday night and got approved Wednesday.
0 coins
Ian Armstrong
•That timing should get you paid by Friday. Washington ESD processes payments Tuesday-Thursday usually.
0 coins
Miguel Silva
Usually it's Tuesday or Wednesday if you filed your weekly claim on Sunday. That's the normal processing schedule for Washington ESD payments.

Dmitry Ivanov
•Perfect, so I might see it today or tomorrow then!

Paolo Ricci
•that's assuming everything processes normally lol Washington ESD isn't exactly known for being on schedule

•True, but the payment system is usually more reliable than the adjudication process

why does everything take so long with unemployment??? like they approve you but then you still have to wait days for money. makes no sense
0 coins
Oliver Alexander
•It's because they have to verify payment amounts and process through the banking system. Not instant like other transfers.

Eli Butler
•still ridiculous when people need money for basic needs

Make sure you have direct deposit set up or it'll take even longer for a check to arrive in the mail. I learned that the hard way.

Dmitry Ivanov
•Yeah I have direct deposit, thankfully set that up when I first applied

Ava Garcia
•how long do checks take if you don't have direct deposit?

•Like 7-10 business days usually. It's painful.

Check your online account under 'Payment History' - it should show if payment is pending or processed. If it says processed, money should hit your account within 1-2 days.
0 coins
Kaylee Cook
•Just checked and it says 'Payment Issued' - does that mean it's on the way?
0 coins
Marcus Patterson
•Yes! 'Payment Issued' means it's been sent to your bank. Should see it tomorrow or Friday.
0 coins
Keisha Williams
Check your account on Wednesday morning - that's usually when the first payments show up for newly approved claims. Don't panic if it's not there Tuesday.

Dmitry Ivanov
•Good to know, I'll try not to stress if it's not there tomorrow

•Also remember that some banks hold deposits longer than others, so even if Washington ESD processes it, your bank might delay availability

I remember when I first got approved I was checking my bank account every hour lol. The waiting is the worst part especially when you're stressed about money.

For future reference - payments typically process Monday through Friday. If you get approved on a Friday, you might not see payment until the following Tuesday or Wednesday due to weekend delays.
0 coins
Kaylee Cook
•Good to know for next week. So weekday approvals are better for faster payment?
0 coins
Mateo Warren
•Generally yes. Mid-week approvals usually result in faster payment processing.

the whole system is so slow, I swear they do it on purpose to make people give up

•I felt the same way during adjudication. Like they're hoping we'll just disappear.

•The system is definitely overwhelmed but once you're approved, payments are pretty consistent

Make sure your bank info is correct in the system. I had a friend who waited 2 weeks for payment because they had an old routing number on file.

Kaylee Cook
•Good point - I double checked and my bank info looks right.

•Then you should be good. Just patience at this point.

Will you get paid for all the weeks you were waiting during adjudication? I'm in the same boat and really need those back payments.
0 coins
Dmitry Ivanov
•That's a great question - I hope so because I've been filing weekly claims the whole time
0 coins
Zainab Ismail
•Yes, if you kept filing your weekly claims during adjudication, you'll get paid for all those weeks once approved. It might come as separate payments though.
0 coins
Yara Nassar
•Oh thank god. I was so worried I'd lose those weeks
0 coins
Ava Garcia
mine showed up on a Thursday when I got approved, so it's not always the same days

If it doesn't show up by Friday, definitely call or use a service to reach them. Sometimes there are payment holds or issues that don't show up in your online account.

•calling is pointless though, you'll never get through

•That's why I mentioned using Claimyr - actually connects you instead of waiting on hold forever

Also double check that your banking info is correct in your account. I've seen people wait weeks only to find out their routing number was wrong.

For future reference, you can typically expect payments 2-3 business days after filing your weekly claim, assuming no issues. Washington ESD processes most payments on Tuesday and Wednesday.

•Ha, good point. I'm already planning out which bills to pay first

Ava Garcia
•the first payment feels so good after all that waiting

One thing to watch for - sometimes the first payment is split if you have back weeks. You might get current week first, then back payments separately.
0 coins
Dmitry Ivanov
•As long as I eventually get everything I'm owed, I don't care how they split it up
0 coins
Zainab Ismail
•This is common with adjudication cases. The system processes current claims first, then catches up on back weeks
0 coins
Connor O'Neill
Make sure you keep filing your weekly claims even after you get paid. I know someone who thought they could skip a week and it messed everything up.
0 coins
Dmitry Ivanov
•Yeah I've been really careful about that. Filing every Sunday no matter what

Bottom line - if you're approved and filed your weekly claim, you should see payment within a week. If not, then it's time to investigate what's wrong.
0 coins
Dmitry Ivanov
•That's a good rule of thumb. I'll wait until next week before I start panicking

One final tip - save your confirmation numbers from weekly claims. If there's ever a payment dispute, those numbers are helpful for tracking which weeks you filed for.

I had a payment delay once because I forgot to complete my work search log properly. Make sure you're meeting all the requirements each week.

Kaylee Cook

Some banks process ACH transfers faster than others. If you're with a big bank like Chase or Bank of America, payments usually show up faster than smaller credit unions.
0 coins
Kaylee Cook
•I'm with a local credit union. Maybe that's why it's taking longer?

•Could be. Credit unions sometimes have slower ACH processing but not always.
