EDD direct deposit delayed - Labor Day holiday impact? Anyone else waiting?

I was supposed to get my EDD payment via direct deposit today but nothing has shown up in my account. I certified on Sunday like normal and it usually shows up by Tuesday morning. Could the Labor Day holiday be delaying things? My UI Online account shows 'paid' status but the money isn't in my bank yet. Getting worried since I have bills due tomorrow. Is anyone else experiencing delays with their direct deposit? When should I start panicking?

The same thing happened to me. My payment is showing as 'paid' on UI Online but the money isn't in my bank yet. Holiday delays are normal - I've had this happen before with Memorial Day. Bank processing usually takes an extra day for holidays. Your money should show up tomorrow morning!

Thanks for the reassurance. I've only been on unemployment for 2 months so still figuring out all these little quirks in the system. Will try to be patient until tomorrow...

Labor Day definitely affects EDD payment processing. When a holiday falls on a Monday, all banking transactions get pushed back one business day. Since EDD initiates direct deposits on Monday/Tuesday after weekend certification, you'll typically see a Tuesday/Wednesday delay. As long as UI Online shows 'paid' status, your money is coming - just delayed by the holiday processing schedule. This happens with all banking holidays throughout the year.

That makes sense, thanks for explaining! I'll keep an eye out tomorrow morning. Do you know if this delay happens with the Money Network card too or just direct deposit?

Money Network card deposits are usually processed a bit differently, but they're still affected by banking holidays. Some people report seeing their Money Network funds 1-2 days earlier than direct deposit, but the holiday will still cause some delay. Either way, if your UI Online shows 'paid', the funds are definitely coming.

I had the exact same issue this morning! Been refreshing my bank app every 15 minutes all day. I've been on unemployment for 6 months now and this happens with EVERY holiday. Presidents Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, July 4th... they never warn you and it always causes panic. If you ever need to actually talk to EDD about payment issues, I'd recommend using Claimyr (claimyr.com). They helped me get through to an actual person when my payments were pending for weeks. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km - saved me hours of redial hell.

Thanks for the suggestion! I'll keep Claimyr in mind if this happens again or if my payment doesn't come through tomorrow. Did you find it was worth using their service? I hate waiting on hold for hours.

Absolutely worth it when you're desperate to talk to someone. I was in a situation where my certification was stuck in pending for 3 weeks and couldn't get through on the regular line. Got connected in under 20 minutes with them. Just make sure you have your claim info ready when you do get connected.

Just to clarify some points about EDD payment processing and holidays: 1. Bank holidays like Labor Day will delay both direct deposit and Money Network card payments by one business day 2. Your UI Online showing 'paid' status means funds have been released by EDD 3. The delay happens at the banking/processing level, not on EDD's end 4. This is standard for all federal banking holidays 5. If you're on a tight budget, always plan for these delays around holidays I work at a credit union and see this confusion with government payments every holiday. It's frustrating but completely normal. Your money should arrive tomorrow.

Thank you for the detailed explanation! This makes me feel much better. I'll definitely mark holidays on my calendar from now on to avoid this panic.

This happens to me every holiday and I panic EVERY time lol. I'm like "where's my money??" and then I remember it's a holiday. You'd think I'd learn by now but nope. Also happens with Memorial Day, Fourth of July, etc. My payment always shows up the next day so don't worry too much!

Hey everyone - just wanted to update that my payment just hit my account this morning (Wednesday) at around 5am. So exactly one day later than normal due to the holiday. Hope everyone else got theirs too!
