EDD payment delay due to Presidents' Day holiday - when will funds arrive?

Hi everyone, I was supposed to get my UI payment deposited yesterday (I certified on Sunday), but nothing has shown up in my account yet. I'm wondering if it's because of the Presidents' Day holiday? My rent is due Friday and I'm starting to stress out. Has anyone else experienced payment delays because of the holiday? How long should I expect to wait for the money to hit my account? My status in UI Online says 'paid' but there's nothing in my bank account yet.

Yes, it's definitely because of the holiday. Presidents' Day is a federal bank holiday, so direct deposits don't process on that day. EDD might show 'paid' in the system, but the actual bank transfer gets delayed. You should see your money tomorrow (Wednesday) or Thursday at the latest. I've had this happen with every holiday since I started claiming last year.

Thank you so much! That's a relief. I wish the EDD website would mention this somewhere prominent instead of making us panic!

Not everyone knows this though. I remember freaking out my first time too when Memorial Day delayed my payment by TWO days! 😠

The holiday definitely causes delays, but if you have a Money Network card instead of direct deposit, sometimes those payments aren't affected the same way. I switched to the card after having too many bank deposit delays. Just something to consider for future reference if the timing is critical for you.

I didn't know the card might be faster! I'll look into switching. Does the Money Network card let you withdraw at any ATM?

Most ATMs work but some charge fees. Bank of America ATMs are free. You can also transfer funds from the card to your bank account through the Money Network app, but that takes 1-2 business days.

Just to add to what others said - I had the EXACT same problem last year during Labor Day. The website said PAID but my account was EMPTY! I panicked and called EDD 47 times before I got through. Turns out I just needed to wait one more day. So frustrating but normal apparently.

47 calls?! That's insane. I tried calling this morning but couldn't get through at all.

If you need to reach EDD quickly, I've had success using Claimyr (claimyr.com). They have a system that holds your place in line and calls you when an agent is available. Saved me hours of redial hell when I had a payment stuck after Veterans Day. They have a video that shows how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km

The EDD computer systems are SO outdated! In 2025 and they still can't figure out how to properly handle holiday payment processing. I've been on unemployment twice in the last three years, and EVERY SINGLE HOLIDAY causes payment delays. What's worse is they never communicate this! Would it kill them to add a banner on the website saying "Due to the Presidents' Day holiday, payments may be delayed by 1-2 business days"???? But no, we all have to panic and waste time trying to figure it out ourselves.

THIS!!! I don't understand why they don't at least send a text alert or something. They have our phone numbers!

Just checking in - did your payment arrive today? Most holiday-delayed payments show up 2 business days later in my experience.
