EDD payment missing today - President's Day holiday delay?
Hey everyone, I'm kind of freaking out. My regular EDD payment wasn't deposited into my account this morning like it usually is. Could it be delayed because of President's Day? I certified on Sunday like normal and it switched to 'paid' status in the system yesterday, but when I checked my bank account this morning - nothing! I'm supposed to pay rent tomorrow and I'm getting nervous. Has anyone else's payment been delayed? Is this normal for holiday weekends or should I be worried something's wrong with my claim? Thanks in advance!

Yes, it's because of President's Day (observed on Monday). Bank transfers don't process on federal holidays, so payments that would normally deposit on Monday or Tuesday are typically delayed by a day. Your money should be there tomorrow morning. This happens with all federal holidays - Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, etc. EDD processed your payment on their end (that's why it shows 'paid' in the system), but the actual bank transfer is delayed by the holiday.

•Thank you SO much for explaining! That's a huge relief. It's my first time dealing with a holiday since I started unemployment benefits, so I didn't know what to expect. I'll check again tomorrow morning.

YES ITS THE HOLIDAY!!!!! They do this EVERY TIME and never bother to warn anyone!!! Some of us have bills due! I've been on UI since October and this is the 3rd holiday delay. They should at least put a notice on the website or something. Not everyone knows bank holidays affect payments!!! I needed that money today for my car payment and now I'll probably get hit with a late fee. 😡

•Most banks will waive the late fee if you explain it was due to a federal holiday delay. Just call your lender and tell them the situation - I've had to do this before and they were understanding about it. It's a common issue with any direct deposit payment scheduled around holidays.

I have my EDD payments on the Money Network card instead of direct deposit to my bank and I actually got my payment yesterday evening! Might want to consider switching to their card if bank delays are an issue for you. The Money Network card payments seem to process faster around holidays.

•That's really good to know! I might look into switching to the Money Network card. Do you have any issues using it for bills and stuff?

•It works just like a regular debit card for me. I use it to pay bills online, shop, and you can withdraw cash at ATMs (some are free, others have fees). You can also transfer money from the card to your bank account through their app or website. The only downside is customer service can be a pain to reach if you have issues.

This happens to me literally every time there's a holiday and I still panic lol. One thing to note - sometimes the holiday delay can stack with weekend processing times too, so occasionally it can take 2 extra days instead of just 1. Just mentioning so you don't freak out if it's not there first thing tomorrow. Mine sometimes doesn't show up until late afternoon on post-holiday payments.

If you're ever having issues with your claim or need to check on payment status, I'd recommend using Claimyr to get through to an EDD representative. I was in a similar situation with delayed payments last month (not holiday related, just EDD being slow), and I couldn't get through on the regular line after trying for days. Found this service at claimyr.com and they got me connected to an EDD agent in about 20 minutes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km. It was definitely worth it to get my payment issue resolved quickly.

•It depends on the bank. Some banks process pending deposits on holidays and some don't. Credit unions often process differently than major banks too. The official ACH network (how the payments are sent) doesn't operate on federal holidays, but individual banks have different policies about how they handle pending transactions.

Update for anyone following this thread - my direct deposit just hit my account about 5 minutes ago (9:45pm Tuesday). Seems like they're processing tonight for tomorrow morning availability. Hope everyone else gets their payments soon!

•THANK YOU for the update! Just checked and mine's pending now too! Shows as arriving tomorrow. Such a relief. I'm definitely going to make a note of all the federal holidays for the rest of the year so I'm not caught off guard again.
