EDD SDI payment delay after holiday weekend - normal or claim problem?
I was supposed to have my disability payment deposited tonight (Sunday) but nothing has shown up in my account yet. I've been getting regular payments for the past 6 weeks with no issues until now. Is the delay likely because of the holiday on Friday, or should I be worried something's wrong with my claim? My last certification was processed normally and my claim status still shows active in the EDD portal. Anyone else experiencing delays with their payments this weekend? I'm starting to get anxious since rent is due soon and I was counting on this money.

•Thanks, that's reassuring. Did you get any kind of notification about the delay or did it just randomly show up?

EDD doesn't process payments during holidays or weekends. Since Friday was a holiday, your payment is likely delayed until Tuesday. This is normal procedure for SDI payments. The system will resume processing on the next business day. Check your payment history on SDI Online to confirm your latest certification was processed correctly - it should say 'paid' rather than 'pending' if everything's in order.

•Thank you for explaining. I just checked and my certification does show 'paid' status, so I guess I just need to wait until Tuesday. The timing is just stressful with bills coming due.

OMG I'm in the EXACT same situation!!! I was freaking out all night thinking something was wrong with my claim! My doctor just submitted a new certification form last week so I was worried maybe that messed something up. Has anyone had their doctor submit a new form and then payments get delayed????

•New certifications shouldn't affect your payment schedule unless your doctor indicated a change in your disability status. The delay is almost certainly just due to the holiday weekend. If your payment doesn't arrive by Wednesday, then you might want to contact EDD to check, but I wouldn't worry before then.

•That sounds awful! Did you ever get through to someone to resolve it or did it just suddenly appear?

Holiday processing delays are standard procedure for all EDD benefit programs. For SDI specifically, payments that would normally be issued on a holiday or the day after a holiday typically arrive 1-2 business days later than usual. The EDD's payment processing system doesn't operate on weekends or holidays, but this only affects the payment date - not your eligibility or benefit amount. If your certification shows 'paid' in your SDI Online account, there's no issue with your claim. The payment is in process but delayed due to the Friday holiday. This should resolve itself by Tuesday or Wednesday at the latest. If you don't receive it by then, that would be the appropriate time to contact EDD for assistance.

•Thank you for the detailed explanation. This makes complete sense. I'll wait until Wednesday before I start worrying.

My sister had same thing happen last year on Labor Day weekend. Got her money on Wednesday instead of Monday. EDD computers are from the stone age! My uncle works for the state (not EDD) and says they run payment batches on specific days and holidays mess EVERYTHING up!!

•Wednesday seems to be the consensus here. Thanks for sharing your sister's experience - that helps set my expectations!

UPDATE: My payment just hit my account this morning (Tuesday)! Thanks everyone for the reassurance. Definitely was just the holiday delay.
