EDD SDI payment delay after holiday weekend - normal or claim problem?

I was supposed to have my disability payment deposited tonight (Sunday) but nothing has shown up in my account yet. I've been getting regular payments for the past 6 weeks with no issues until now. Is the delay likely because of the holiday on Friday, or should I be worried something's wrong with my claim? My last certification was processed normally and my claim status still shows active in the EDD portal. Anyone else experiencing delays with their payments this weekend? I'm starting to get anxious since rent is due soon and I was counting on this money.

Thanks, that's reassuring. Did you get any kind of notification about the delay or did it just randomly show up?

EDD doesn't process payments during holidays or weekends. Since Friday was a holiday, your payment is likely delayed until Tuesday. This is normal procedure for SDI payments. The system will resume processing on the next business day. Check your payment history on SDI Online to confirm your latest certification was processed correctly - it should say 'paid' rather than 'pending' if everything's in order.

Thank you for explaining. I just checked and my certification does show 'paid' status, so I guess I just need to wait until Tuesday. The timing is just stressful with bills coming due.

OMG I'm in the EXACT same situation!!! I was freaking out all night thinking something was wrong with my claim! My doctor just submitted a new certification form last week so I was worried maybe that messed something up. Has anyone had their doctor submit a new form and then payments get delayed????

New certifications shouldn't affect your payment schedule unless your doctor indicated a change in your disability status. The delay is almost certainly just due to the holiday weekend. If your payment doesn't arrive by Wednesday, then you might want to contact EDD to check, but I wouldn't worry before then.

That sounds awful! Did you ever get through to someone to resolve it or did it just suddenly appear?

Holiday processing delays are standard procedure for all EDD benefit programs. For SDI specifically, payments that would normally be issued on a holiday or the day after a holiday typically arrive 1-2 business days later than usual. The EDD's payment processing system doesn't operate on weekends or holidays, but this only affects the payment date - not your eligibility or benefit amount. If your certification shows 'paid' in your SDI Online account, there's no issue with your claim. The payment is in process but delayed due to the Friday holiday. This should resolve itself by Tuesday or Wednesday at the latest. If you don't receive it by then, that would be the appropriate time to contact EDD for assistance.

Thank you for the detailed explanation. This makes complete sense. I'll wait until Wednesday before I start worrying.

My sister had same thing happen last year on Labor Day weekend. Got her money on Wednesday instead of Monday. EDD computers are from the stone age! My uncle works for the state (not EDD) and says they run payment batches on specific days and holidays mess EVERYTHING up!!

Wednesday seems to be the consensus here. Thanks for sharing your sister's experience - that helps set my expectations!

UPDATE: My payment just hit my account this morning (Tuesday)! Thanks everyone for the reassurance. Definitely was just the holiday delay.

This is such helpful information for anyone dealing with EDD payment delays! I'm new to SDI and was worried when my first payment didn't show up on the expected date last week. Welcome to the community! I'm glad this thread was helpful for you. The first time you experience a payment delay it can definitely be scary, especially when you're depending on those funds. It's great that you're getting familiar with how the system works early on - knowing that holiday delays are normal will save you a lot of stress in the future. I went through this exact same panic a few months ago during Memorial Day weekend! My payment was delayed by 3 days and I was convinced something was wrong with my claim. Now I know to expect delays after any federal holiday - it's just how their system works. The key thing is checking that your certification shows "paid" status in SDI Online, which it sounds like yours does. As long as that's showing up correctly, the money will come through once their payment processing resumes. I've learned to budget around these predictable delays now, especially during holiday seasons when there might be multiple days off in a row.

That's really smart to budget around the holiday delays! I'm definitely going to start doing that too. It's crazy how much stress it causes when you're not expecting it, but knowing it's a predictable pattern makes it so much easier to plan for. Thanks for sharing your Memorial Day experience - it's reassuring to know this happens consistently and isn't a sign of problems with the claim.

I'm dealing with this same issue right now! My payment was supposed to come yesterday and I've been refreshing my bank account all morning. Reading through everyone's experiences here is so helpful - I had no idea that holiday delays were this common with EDD payments. I've only been on SDI for about 2 months so this is my first time experiencing a holiday delay. My certification also shows "paid" in the portal so I'm feeling much better about waiting it out. It's such a relief to know this is normal and not a sign that something went wrong with my claim!

I totally understand that anxiety of refreshing your bank account over and over! I went through the same thing when I was new to SDI. It's really stressful when you're counting on that money and it doesn't show up when expected. But you're in good company here - seems like we've all been through this exact scenario. Since your certification shows "paid" you should definitely see it by tomorrow or Wednesday at the latest. The waiting is the hardest part, but at least now you know what to expect for future holidays!

I'm so glad I found this thread! I'm about 4 months into my SDI claim and just experienced my first holiday delay this past weekend. Like many of you, I was panicking and checking my bank account constantly. It's amazing how much stress these delays cause when you're not expecting them, especially when you're already dealing with a disability and the financial strain that comes with it. Reading everyone's experiences here has been incredibly reassuring. I love that people are sharing both their initial panic and their relief when payments eventually came through - it really shows we're all in this together. I'm definitely going to bookmark this thread and start planning my budget around these predictable holiday delays. This thread has been such a lifesaver! I'm completely new to SDI (just started my claim last week) and was already getting worried about how payments work. Seeing everyone's experiences with holiday delays and the explanations about EDD's payment processing has given me so much peace of mind. I had no idea that delays were this predictable around holidays. The tip about checking for "paid" status in SDI Online is gold - I'm going to make sure I know how to access that before I expect my first payment. It's incredible how supportive this community is. Thank you to everyone who shared their stories and especially to those who took the time to explain the technical details about how EDD processes payments. I feel so much more prepared now!

Welcome to the community, Madison! I'm also pretty new to SDI (been on it for about 3 months now) and this thread has been such an eye-opener for me too. I wish I had found information like this when I first started - would have saved me so much unnecessary stress! The community here really does look out for each other. One thing I'd add is that it's worth setting up text alerts with your bank if you haven't already, so you get notified immediately when payments hit rather than constantly checking your account. Makes the waiting a bit less anxiety-inducing. Good luck with your claim!

I'm dealing with this exact same situation right now! Been on SDI for about 8 months and thought I had the payment schedule figured out, but this holiday delay caught me completely off guard. My payment was supposed to hit yesterday and I've been stressing about it all day. Reading through everyone's experiences here is so reassuring - I had forgotten that federal holidays mess with the processing schedule. My certification shows "paid" in the portal so I'm going to follow everyone's advice and wait until Wednesday before panicking. It's amazing how this thread captures exactly what so many of us go through with these delays. Thanks to everyone who shared their stories and the detailed explanations about EDD's system - this kind of community support makes navigating SDI so much less stressful!
