ESD payment delay due to holiday weekend - normal or problem?

Anyone know if there's going to be a delay on our weekly benefit payments since yesterday was a holiday? I filed my weekly claim on Sunday night like usual, but normally get paid on Tuesday. Since yesterday was a holiday, should I expect my payment tomorrow (Wednesday) instead? The ESD website doesn't mention anything about holiday delays specifically for this weekend. Getting a bit anxious since rent is due Friday and I'm cutting it close this month. Has anyone received their payment today or are we all in the same boat?

Thanks! Figured that was the case but started second-guessing myself when I didn't see the pending deposit this morning.

This is correct - ESD follows the federal banking holiday schedule, so payments that would normally process Monday night and post Tuesday will be delayed by one day. Your payment should appear tomorrow (Wednesday). Just a helpful note: if you're cutting it close with bills, you can adjust which day you file your weekly claim. Filing earlier in the week (Sunday-Monday) vs. later (Tuesday-Saturday) can help you avoid these holiday delay situations in the future.

That's really helpful info, thanks! I didn't realize filing earlier in the week would make a difference in payment timing. Will definitely keep that in mind.

Same boat here! Was freaking out a little when I didn't see my payment hit my account this morning.

Every.Single.Holiday this happens and ESD NEVER bothers to put up a notice or send an email warning people! I've been on unemployment for 8 months and it's always the same story. You'd think they could program their system to automatically send a notification about payment delays due to holidays, but NOPE. Too much to ask apparently!

Totally agree! I missed a car payment once because of this exact issue. Would it kill them to send a text alert or something?

I had this same issue a couple months ago after Labor Day and spent HOURS trying to get through to ESD because I was worried something was wrong with my claim! Tried calling over 20 times and kept getting the "high call volume" message and disconnected. Finally used a service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me through to an actual agent in about 35 minutes. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/7DieNd3C7zQ?si=26TzE_zGms-DODN3 Didn't need it this time since I knew about the holiday delay, but it was a lifesaver when I was panicking about my claim status.

Does that actually work? I've tried calling ESD so many times and always get disconnected.

To answer your original question more specifically: 1) Yes, payments are delayed by one business day following federal holidays 2) This affects ALL banking transactions, not just ESD payments 3) The payment should show as "processing" in your ESD account even if it hasn't hit your bank yet 4) If you don't see it by Thursday morning, THEN there might be an issue with your claim For future reference, all 2025 federal holidays that will delay payments are: New Year's Day, MLK Day, Presidents Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Indigenous Peoples' Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.

Thank you for the detailed info! You're right - I just checked my ESD account and it does show as processing. That makes me feel better. And thanks for the 2025 holiday list - I'll mark those on my calendar to avoid future panic!
