SDI payment delay after Memorial Day certification - normal wait time?
Certified for my disability benefits on Monday morning (right before the Memorial Day holiday) and still haven't seen any deposit hit my account. Normally I get paid within 24-48 hours after certifying. Is EDD delaying all payments because of the holiday? Anyone else experiencing this? My disability claim has been active for about 6 weeks now with no issues up until this point. Just getting a bit anxious since I've got rent due next week and was counting on this payment.

•Thanks for confirming! That's a relief. I should've thought about the holiday delay but this is my first SDI claim so still figuring everything out.

THEY ALWAYS DO THIS!!! Every single holiday there's a payment delay but they NEVER warn claimants in advance. I've been on SDI three times and it happens EVERY holiday. The system is designed to make us suffer. They could easily program automatic payments but noooo, they make us wait extra days when we're already struggling with medical issues. It's cruel.

•While I understand your frustration, the payment delay is actually due to the banking system, not EDD specifically. ACH transfers don't process on federal holidays, and most government agencies don't have weekend processing either. Once you know this pattern, you can plan around it by certifying earlier when holidays approach.

Have u tried calling them? Sometimes there can be other issues besides the holiday. I once had a payment held up because they needed additional info but never notified me until I called.

•I tried calling yesterday but couldn't get through after 45 minutes on hold. Might try again tomorrow if the payment doesn't show up.

If you need to reach EDD about your payment status, I'd recommend using Claimyr.com. I was in a similar situation last month and spent days trying to get through without success. Claimyr got me connected to an EDD agent in about 20 minutes. They have a video demo showing how it works: https://youtu.be/1X-mEsLtbmQ?si=1hcSq3KFtCr4oAmd. When you're waiting on disability payments, it's worth it to speak with someone directly rather than wondering what's happening.

•Thanks for the tip! If I don't see a payment by tomorrow afternoon I'll check out that service. Really need to know what's going on with this delay.

•is this service legit? sounds kinda sketchy to pay someone just to call edd for me

•It's completely legitimate. They don't call EDD for you - they use a system that navigates the phone tree and holds your place in line, then connects you directly with an EDD agent. I was skeptical too but it saved me from spending hours on hold. Much better than missing payments while waiting to get through.

In my experience, holiday certification almost always results in a 3-4 business day payment timeline instead of the usual 1-2 days. The payment system likely won't process anything until Wednesday (day after holiday), and then it takes 1-2 additional business days for the funds to appear in your account. So I'd expect payment Thursday or Friday this week. This happens with all EDD payment types - disability, paid family leave, and unemployment. It's frustrating but predictable once you've been through a few certification cycles. For future reference, try to certify on Thursdays or Fridays to avoid holiday processing delays.

•This is really helpful information! I didn't realize the timing mattered so much. Will definitely plan better for future certifications. Appreciate the detailed explanation.

•I'm not using the EDD debit card - I set up direct deposit to my checking account. But good idea to check online rather than just my bank account!

I certified late Sunday night and just got my payment this morning. Maybe your timing on Monday pushed you into the post-holiday processing batch?

•You're thinking of traditional SDI. For California disability, there are different certification requirements depending on your claim type. Some disability claims (especially those exceeding 6-8 weeks) require periodic certification to confirm your disability status hasn't changed. Pregnancy disability claims often have different certification schedules too. Each claim has specific instructions on when/how to certify.

UPDATE: Payment finally hit my account this morning! So it took about 3 days instead of the usual 1-2. Definitely was just the holiday delay like most of you mentioned. Thanks everyone for the help and advice - really appreciate it! Will be more mindful of holidays for future certifications.

•Great news! Glad it worked out. Yes, always factor in an extra 2-3 days around holidays for any EDD payments. Hope your recovery continues to go well!
